@UCETNSBfq7sLNqALhn4YpcOg I'm happy for the trade imbalance, it doesn't bother me. I'm just laying it down that Countries around the World want a piece of the action. EU trade deals never benefit us. We've always wanted financial services included and the EU never pushes it in it's trade deals. It's one of the reasons why our banking sector is now on board with Brexit. We only produce around 70% of the food we eat. Yet the EU has an external tariff of 30% on food goods coming in to the EU. Yeah, we can get cheaper food from elsewhere.. We can open up markets for our banking sector and make investments in other faster growing markets. And on fishing. Since joining, our coastal ex fishing communities have been hit hard, they account for many of our poorest communities in the UK. The common fisheries policy has been a disaster for coastal towns. They'll now have a chance to improve their quality of life again. If EU belligerence continues, I hear mutterings of EU fishing fleets getting banned from our waters all together.

This remark did not age well. Due to Border formalities it is almost impossible to export Fresh Fish to the EU. Shellfish industry is doomed as it is legally not allowed to export to the EU. Fishermen are not fishing as the fish caught can not be sold to anyone for a reasonable price. Brexit is Brexit

When Britain joined the EU, British fishermen were forced out of work due to EU law. It’s only fair that, after brexit, EU fishermen should have to suffer the same fate as our fishermen did. If Britain had more cheap fish, Brits would eat more fish. The problem is, only 20% of fish caught in British waters is caught by British boats. Totally unfair and that’s why we are grabbing back our marine territory. British fish, British resources

The UK, in taking back its waters, is not taking anything away from the EU, it's returning to the status quo. The French Captain claims that he will lose 70% of his catch if can't fish in UK waters. While I have sympathy for the French Captain, perhaps when Brexit is finalized, the French Captain might pay a fee to fish in the rich UK waters and not have to throw back any Sea Bass, per these stupid EU regulations.

Fishing fleets have had the benefit of technology to improve efficiency but fish are not able to strap on a outboard motor or a cloak of invisibility so hardly very fair if there was a limit on technology to be used on a fish design that cannot up date

People should read up on how Edward Heath sold out UK fisherman as a Brit you would be ashamed. After 1974 over 50,000 Brits lost their jobs in the British fishing industry the EU even gave grants to destroy their fishing boats. Many of our old fishing ports have ended up in decay and are now left with dreadful social problems. Those that speak against the UK controlling our own waters are regretfully not Brit’s, let’s see if Boris is a true Brit?

Some suggestion that a 1600s treaty with Belgium gives them fishing rights to UK waters for 50 fishermen. Concern this could be stumbling block getting our waters back. 1. Assum the Belgium fishing families (50 of them) are still fishing? 2. As the EU manage fisheries, then does Belgium have the right to negotiate on its own behalf? Parliament can also rescind the law, we have had massive international legislation since then. EU already overfishing & has 'bought' rights to fish off the coast of west Africa, to the detriment of native fisheries.

one year later ... The Charter mentions that the 50 fishermen should be "poorters" (citizens) of Bruges living there, it doesn't mention any family names. The fishing port of Zeebrugge being part of Bruges (Brugge) it shouldn't be a problem finding at least some fishermen families. And if there are still "vacancies" a few fishermen can move from Oostende or Nieuwpoort. The Charter is not a trade agreement, so the EU won't object.

Roger F Johnson Yeha but not all fish comes even from British waters....like cod used in fish and chips for example is only caught very little in British waters. So where do they catch the fish for your 10500 fish and chips shop ...take a guess! As said in the video it’s mostly the small fishermen that have a problem. Now Brexit might bring an advantage for the smaller vessels, because I certainly would agree that EU regulation and how quotas are handled by the UK government are playing a part in why there was a decline of fishermen with small boats. Yet even after Brexit quotas for fish will still persist for fishermen and economic pressure will still not favor small fishermen even.

Areas like Cornwell need to gain more investment based on the wider more visible needs of the general population, like from sovereign wealth funds, and why don't if they don't why don't other nations pay to fish in our waters, otherwise this cash could go to Cornwell. On the other hand if they cat fish in our waters why not breed fish in captivity in tanks and save on ships? Or auction those quotas apart from UK and European fishermen giving UK fishermen more fish to catch now then ever! To export for greater currencies where there are shortages of different fish. smooth seas don't make skilful sailors. meet domestic demand by maximising profit and reinvest the profit into bigger, better ships over a greater scale, maybe so more of a quota can be meet with fewer ships when smaller fishermen merge as businesses.
