2:33 As an amateur I found this sentence surprisingly inspiring: "I was better at drawing than most people, but that's about it." Sometimes it is easy to forget that even for hobby artists, this is true! At least most people I know, don't do art. Which makes me a better artist than most people! 😁 I will try to keep this in mind when struggling with self-doubt. Thanks!

thank you very much for this video, truly. it is not taken for granted to talk about this topic in youtube and I truly treasure it. I also left my day job to go into art at the age of 27 (now 34), tried different venues but youtube has always been a bit scary for me, feels too vulnerable to put yourself out there, also to keep on making videos with so much on your head sounds overwhelming, I honestly dont know how you even manage that! :) I would be glad to hear more from you about how you handle doing art and vids even in hard or busy times, something I been struggling with for a while. thank you and wish you a great 2024 :)

Thank you for your kind message. Definitely KZbin is a commitment. I usually manage it within my week, but when something comes up, I'll make room for it at the expense of other things. It helps to enjoy it and I also have the feeling I can't let down all my previous work because of one event, so that helps me find the time when I have less.

Thank you, truly, from the bottom of my heart. I've spent the whole day drawing and listening to your videos, and I think I must've watched this one in particular at least 3 times. Your story is so incredibly inspiring and ressonated deeply with me. I have been wanting to quit my job for years and give myself just a chance to try, to learn and improve my craft and try to make a living from it. Even if I end up failing, not giving myself a chance is killing me little by little, day by day. Every sunday night I have so much anxiety, and I spend my days feeling I'm losing more and more time at a job that doesn't really fulfill me in any way, it doesn't feel like that's what I was put on this earth to do. It's very difficult to explain this to people who simply don't understand how much of your soul fades when you're prevented from doing what you feel in your heart you were meant to do. I'm grateful that I have a job, and I'm able to have a good and stable income, but I don't feel like I'm living, I feel life is passing by me and everynight gets harder and harder to find energy to look forward to go through another day. Your story makes me believe it's possible, and honestly, I don't really think anyone on social media has ever impacted me that way before, so again, thank you. Your children are and will be so incredibly proud of you, you're setting such an amazing example for them. I'm gonna save this video on my favorites and will keep rewatching it till I find the courage within me to take that jump. ❤

@@paintingandchocolate thank you! I've been thinking on getting online classes to just incorporate drawing and painting again into my life, I think just doing anything will prob help immensely and make me feel a bit better. Spending the whole day coloring yesterday felt amazing, I hadn't done that in years. It made me so happy I can't tell you. :)

How dedicated you are to your calling, with 4 children, what discipline that must take! Bravo to you and thank you so much for all your lessons, I'm only a few yrs into watercolor and almost never did art as child.❤

I lost my job in March without cause, and I decided I was done working for someone else. But listening to how you kept going ....even with 4 kids 🤯...gives me hope! I just need to keep it up, and be a little more patient. Thanks so much for sharing this! You are an incredible inspiration! ❤❤❤

Wow! That is a lot of challenges when you first started out. I am so happy you decided to share this piece of information with us. It is different for everyone, my instagram has a lot more followers than my YT channel which is much slower to grow. I turned 40 last year and about to be 41 and while I decided to get another Masters in Art Therapy so that I can be a register art therapist full time. I bounce around between county jobs and the education field which is where I came back to as a substitute teacher. I know I am not a teacher type but more like an educator. I never fully found any success or happiness in my original field in International Relations other than I love to travel which fuels my soul and now being an artist. All in all I love the artist community and love making sketchbooks you are right about the loneliness part...I am always working or trying out new art supplies. Happy New Year. Maria

I would like to be worker of Hospitality Industry and use my income to sustain my basic needs as well as my supplies for art. I'm addicted to explore art but I'm afraid to be like you. You are from France, I am from Philippines where being an artist is a minority, most commissions are ridiculously cheap asf. Local Art Appreciation isn't as high as with the European community.

Can I ask if you have a spouse/partner who also works since you have four kids? I’m the sole breadwinner in my family and would love nothing more than to quit my engineering job and make a living from my art. I really don’t see how that is financially possible in this day and age, however. Just curious. It seems like most professional artists were either born into wealth or have a spouse with a higher paying salary. Thanks for any insight. I’m guessing my situation is a pipe dream.

I would then get started while still working if it's risky. For me it was different being a mom of so many kids. Yes, my husband works, although I took advantage of my last maternity leave to get started safely without impacting him. I also had unemployment benefits that helped me make the switch without taking risks. By the time this was over, i was in a place where I could keep on going with my art, but if I had been single, I would have had stress for sure that it's not enough. Luckily this wasn't such an issue. My worry was to have this work by the time my benefits end and that was the case. Also in my specific case, it helped everyone in the fam that i could get started while being there for the kids, since daycare fees are expensive. It was hard on me time and energy wise but i managed. This was the main challenge here,.as well as showing the family that an art career is valid and possible, so i get more support morally.

@@paintingandchocolate I’ve been a creative my whole life, and I have made income from my work, but I have had to pursue a career in a field I am not passionate about in order to survive financially. It’s a shame artists have such a hard time being able to support themselves doing what they love. Happy that you are able to do so!

I recently discovered your channel and love your artwork and tutorials but this video seems to leave out a lot of details. Unless things are dramatically different in France, you didn't share if your significant other or parents helped financially during the 3 years between leaving your job and starting to see success. 🤔 It remains the dream for many to pursue art full time and make a living but most people in America can't follow in your footsteps without a cash cushion from savings or an inheritance or unless they have a spouse/significant other or parents who help them during the transition period.

Yes,, everyone's situation and challenges are different. For me I was lucky to have a spouse and unemployment benefits ar first. My own challenges have been to raise the kids on my own while putting so much work. If i hadn't had this safety cushion though, I would have worked evenings after a day job but with the kids and a job, that would have been even less time to dedicate to art.
