You really need to keep the Tube that the Rings Slide on Lubricated. If left dry the Franchi has a tendency to jam. How do I know? Have owned the Franchi 48AL for several years and by expirence learned it needs lubrication. Enjoyed your presention, found it helpful, thank you,

On the User Manual of mine 1965 48 AL (bottom of page 4, in "How to set the recoil governor" section) there's an advice: DO NOT OIL THE MAGAZINE TUBE. WIPE IT DRY AFTER CLEANING. It's in bold and block letters, so I think it's an important advice. It's important to align the openings on the brass and the steel rings to gain a good grip, so the rings doesn't slip, and this prevents jams. Never had problems with good ammo, in 40 years of ownership, and never oiled the magazine tube and the recoil spring. And sometimes I use it even now, with 32 grams 1050 bars Gualandi slugs, for wild boards hunting. It's a 2 star choke barrel, and it works perfectly with self reducing or under calibrated slugs like Gualandi and Brenneke.

Excellent! Got same gun from family member & it would not cycle low brass shells. Def needs cleaned & now know how to adjust for light loads. THANKS!

On Browning A5, for light loads they say to put the governor bevel side down on tube first then put spring on then place friction ring (bevel side up). Interesting the difference. I have a late ‘40s American browning 3-shot 12 gauge set on heavy loads and still cycled 1 1/8 loads of white box Federal ammo at clay course with no problem for 75 rounds. A great design Mr. browning had!

Those you replace the recoil and action springs. Most are over 40 plus years old. Set governor ring like you stated. But on the friction ring and brass/bronze friction spring, line up the splits/slits when reinstalling.
@suburbanhunt3653 Жыл бұрын
We have to make sure to do that if we didn’t. If it was t lined up the shotgun seen to shit fine. I assume it adds friction?

The third option for the friction ring if it still fails to cycle on the lower setting seen in the video is to place it on the tube first before you install the spring

If you have the time, grab an older Win. Model 94 that'll also have a Lever safety. You have to squeeze the lever to be able to disengage the sear to allow the hammer to fall. Almost always these do not pop back into the safe position once engaged after letting go the lever. They're supposed to but I have a 1948 version that doesn't. I've checked many others that act the same. It would be nice to cure this issue.

I have access to an early 70's and a mid 90's models. I've never tested that so I'm not sure if they also don't go back into safe. This is interesting and I will try it on both models. We do have a disassembly video for the Winchester 94 but I didn't take the tang down that far. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hoPHd6SDqLt0Y6c

I tested the 90's model and it operated like it should. I will see about getting a hold of the older one and test it. I'm curious if dirt and build up is causing it to stick or in the metal has lost some of the pressure. Once I have a chance to look at the older one I will let you know what I find.

Thanks a lot! Just got me a 12G version of this, and this helped a lot! My shotgun is now ready for a few rounds on the range, and hopefully I`ll get us some groose with it later this fall! Got one question for you, I live in Norway, and starting this year we have to use amo with steelbullets as oposed to led. Do you think the AL can handle it?
@suburbanhunt3653 Жыл бұрын
I'm pretty you would be fine. As long as you have the rings set correctly for the load you are using you should be good to go. I'm not aware of any issues using steel. We have had to steel for water fowl for some time and I've not heard anything. Best of luck out there and thank you for watching.

You seem to know a lot about these guns so maybe you can help me. I have the frenchi black magic and from what I read it’s the same as the 48al just better cosmetics. With mine the firing pin is hitting the primer when loading the first shot and slap Firing. Any idea what it could be?
@suburbanhunt36532 жыл бұрын
Have you taken the breech block apart and looked at the Firing Pin Spring? I would be curious to know if its right size, worn out, or missing all together. Have a look and check out Numrich for parts. If you have to source elsewhere be careful and ensure its the correct spring. www.gunpartscorp.com/gun-manufacturer/franchi/sa-gas-op-shotgun/black-magic-game

@@suburbanhunt3653 I have not first time it did it I think it broke the firing pen I took it somewhere and got it fixed shot it a while it done it again. It only does it after u have shot it maybe 10 times or so. Probably could be the wrong size I’ll try taking it apart this week and looking at it. Is there a better way i could keep in contact with you on it?
