Mormons have developed their concept of innovative Christianity in starting with the Book of Mormon, which is leaning closely on the Bible, but extending the evangelical salvation story to the American Indian's Ancestors. Later extensions incorporate Masonry.
Francis Chan displays a gentle approach, appealing to Mormons to read the Bible so that their original biblical testimony will be re-build. He is a fine example of living a simple Christian life having given away millions of dollars made from his authorship.
Watch the whole sermon in video titled "Is This Really Church ?" • Is This Really Church ... &t=23m40s
Francis did not single out Mormons - lets be fair to the Mormons and look at the upbringing in the evangelical church ! Point: All churches have to ask themselves are we living by the word in the bible or put our spin on it ? See also Exegesis vs Eisegesis @ letsreasontoget...
My comments
Tens of thousands of Mormons have taken issues with their leaders lack of transparency after finding out that they have been taught an imaginary history of Jesus Christ's ministry in ancient America (Book of Mormon). They feel their trust is betrayed by today's LDS Prophets and Apostles trying to protect the faith at the expense of honesty. When they find out that the foundational story doesn't hold up, tens of thousands loose their faith in what they thought is the only true and living church of Jesus Christ. Sadly they have been conditioned not to look elsewhere. Hence for too many Ex-Mormons (at least half) all hope in a true biblical Christianity is lost if the LDS church can no longer be believed to be true. Authentic Christians like Francis Chan, Dan Mohler, Todd White and Heidi and Rolland Baker however demonstrate with their lives that Christianity has not been abandoned by the Holy Ghost and that God is very much alive an at work.

@@chadangell7812 well if you can tell me what religion has the answers to who we are, why we're here, and where we're going, let me know. Also what religion has 12 apostles, missionary work, and revelation like Christ's church did. The Church of Jesus Christ answers all of those things and more. Whether you like the answers is up to you but the truth is the truth.
@chadangell7812

If you had ever read the Bible you could answer all of these yourself. A little fyi...No religion can explain why we are here but the Bible can tell you where youre going. Read John 14:6, read Ephesians 2:8-9 Jesus says the only way to heaven is through him. The Apostle Paul, which by the way there has been an appointed Apostle since Christ exited the earth so your "apostles" that Joseph the pedophile Smith named dont exist, Paul says in Ephesians that by faith youre saved and not of works. As a Christian, we are ALL missionaries. I dont need some phoney religion to authorize me to spread the Word of God. The only thing holding you back from salvation is the nonsense from your book of mormon
@those1kidds
@those1kidds Жыл бұрын
Of course religions can say why we are here and all of them try. The difference is God has told His prophets why and they've passed along the answers to us. If you want to hear the truth and accept it it's up to you. Joseph Smith wasn't a pedophile. He never had unwanted sex with any children. If you're saying he's a pedophile because he was sealed to younger girls than ok, pretty much every other man during that time was a pedo as well since girls were married very young back then. So what gospel are you spreading as a missionary? The one that the preacher down the street teaches or the gospel a different preacher teaches? The way God establishes His truth is through His church which is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a mainstream Christian you can't say exactly what you believe because it's all too loose. Each preacher has his own gospel and interpretations of it. God's truth can't be established that way. It's through prophets and God's church that His true gospel is established and maintained. And how is the Book of Mormon holding me back from salvation when all it teaches is Christ's true restored doctrine and invites all to come to Him? I've felt closer to God reading that book than anything I've ever read. It teaches Christ's doctrine in a more pure manner since it's translation count is one where the bible has been translated many times losing a lot of its original meaning. Why do you complain about receiving more of Gods word? If you want to talk about nonsense, it sucks the anti Mormon nonsense worked on you...

I was raised Catholic. Then became an alcoholic and drug abuser. Went to mental hospitals. Then prayed for Jesus to enter my life (in 1979) and read the Bible. I now see all kinds of fallacies being taught at many places. Like Francis Chan said, we need to start with the Bible. For me, I had a lot of undoing (and unprogramming) to be done so I could understand and walk in the truth, and be free.

***** I did answer you with that first scripture, however, you may be confused. John 3:16-18King James Version (KJV) 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 39 And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us. 40 But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss. 42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. 43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise. If water baptism was a requirement for salvation, Jesus wouldn't have said this. Are you a Mormon member?

Ben Jones who is the lord from which Isaiah is referring to? Lord farquaad, the land lord? The lord of the rings? Which lord? Doesn’t God have a name? Wasn’t it replaced in most bible translations with titles such as God or lord? This is what it seems only JW acknowledge. God has a name which is written more than 7,000 times in original manuscripts. Doesn’t this mean God wants us to know him by name? Didn’t Jesus prayed to his father? Didn’t he made his name known? Didn’t he tell his followers to worship only the father? Didn’t Jesus say the Good news of Gods kingdom will be preached to all the inhabited earth for a witness and then the end will come? Aren’t JW the only religion carrying out this commission? Doesn’t the Bible teach God purpose earth for mankind? Didn’t man lose paradise? Didn’t Jesus mentioned paradise? Isn’t that still Gods purpose for mankind since the start? Where do you get that JW are wrong when their teachings are in harmony with scriptures and the only doctrines that make perfect sense? I really want to know?

@@nsr5961 The Lord Isaiah is referring to is Jesus Christ in pre-mortal life as Jehovah confirmed by verse 11 saying it's the Saviour. The Old Testament and New Testament are not to be treat the same way. What you need to know to understand is Jehovah (Christ) is the God of The Old Testament, LORD God of Israel. Christ is the God of Israel, not the Father. When we read the New Testament we find the Apostles and Christ himself teaching the Father is Christ's God. Eph. 1:3 "the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ," Jesus Christ = Jehovah = LORD God of Israel Eph. 1:3 "the God ... of our LORD God of Israel," "the God ... of our God," Acknowledge Paul was writing to the house of Israel, The Old Testament teaches Christ is the one and only God of Israel. Don't underestimate the importance of the word "our" in Eph. 1:3. "our" = house of Israel So what about those who have not joined the house of Israel, who's their God? The nature of God was lost after the death of the Apostles, the Bible shows the Father, Son and Holy Ghost are three separate beings, not one being in three persons.

Being raised Mormon and serving a mission, I did not realize the gravity of this until I gave GOD just sliver to work with... And did HE ever! I always was thought that Jesus was the foundation of Mormonism. This is not true... The foundation of Mormonism is Joseph Smith. Here is my evidence... ask yourself, if Joseph Smith is not a true prophet of GOD, or is false, can the church still stand... The answer is NO. So every Mormon hangs their salvation on a single man. If this were not true, then why, during a time to worship GOD (sacrament meeting) would you even think to sing "Praise to the Man" (a song praising Joseph Smith) and not making the sacrament meeting 100% about GOD? If you're LDS, just think about it... If you give GOD just a sliver of space to work in your life... Get ready because HE's about to rock your whole way of thinking as HE did mine!

+ Shiloh Stutz That seems to be a rather common experience of late. Having been sequestered in one sect or another during their youth - the devoted soon discover for themselves the many unsavory tidbits of their faith. An associate, and one-time Protestant suggests that once he'd come to realize the nauseating foundations of his belief system, he immediately disassociated himself. He could no longer "hang" his spiritual hat on the tyrannical hooks of the Reformation or its Founding Fathers - especially Martin Luther.

If the Bible did not exist, neither would Mormonism. If you do remember, it was the Bible that kick started Joseph Smith with James 1:5. Mormonism is just as reliant to the existence of the Bible as Christianity.

I was a completely believing Mormon for 40 years. My family members were among those who founded Mormonism and today my family members are still leaders. One problem I heard with this podcast is, Mormon missionaries cannot be alone to "get alone" and pray. About 5 minutes to use the toilet a day and those minutes are busy minutes. A second problem is the indoctrination is complete because of the human brain's capability for confirmation bias. Just using everyday logic and reasoning will not work. The polished salesmanship in Mormon training have their apologetic work down to a fine art. The third problem with the ideas of this podcast and Mormonism is, it has not taken into account that Mormonism has an open cannon, of whatever thing comes out of their leader's mouths are to be considered by all members to be the latest and greatest "scripture" and unquestionably followed. When attempting to live all of the ever -changing doctrines perfectly (which is impossible), becomes too painful... or too crazy... then perhaps a lot of courage will lead a person to question and maybe leaving (apostasy) which, of course, is the worst sin. Lastly, after the temple ideology of going there (as is insisted upon constantly) there are oaths of allegiance that one will NEVER leave or expose what goes on inside the cult houses (temples) for the dead! LOL! So, going against the brainwashing indoctrination is (of course) strictly forbidden, freethinking is shunned, and the threat of losing your family, your friends, perhaps your home and job... is too terrible to even begin to question the Mormon realities fed to you. Check out the BITE model of cults.

What was it that caused Satan to fall? I will be god. What was it that brought sin into the world, the temptation of being like God. Certainly it stands to reason that those poor souls need the Truth of the Gospel to set them free from the sin of being a god.

Please go to an interlinear Bible that has the original language of the text and also review the context of the text. In Psalms, for example, the context is sometimes poetry, sometimes parallel and sometimes actual life. Use a good word search tool (Like Strong's) and see how differently the same words in English have been translated from the original text. Don't buy what someone else is peddling from the pulpit. And i came to the conclusion that it was false after seeing how they view Christ as a great prophet only. Not divine, not the Son of God...just a prophet. "Well thats all i needed to know 😁" Yet, Christ name is brought up way more times in the Quran than Muhammad himself. And the only women named in the book is Christ mother Mary.

In 9 months I am in the Book of Mormon for the 2nd time and KNOW it is another testament of Jesus Christ. My wife and I met in Iowa and were married in Iowa. Our children were born in Iowa. Then in 1982, Sally was invited to work at the University of Utah Medical Center. So we made plans to move to Salt Lake City. Our lifestyle was similar to that of the LdS (Mormons) in many ways so, on the long drive from Iowa to Utah, I kept praying for a succinct way to answer if someone in Utah were to ask me why we weren’t LdS. It was less than a month before someone asked just that question. I told him that Eve’s mistake in the garden was to covet for herself prerogatives that belong to the creator alone. I have no desire to be worshipped. That having been said, many of the doctrines that are popular among professed Christians were NOT developed by people who read the Bible from cover to cover. Many of those doctrines were developed at a time when Christians (in western Europe at least) didn’t use the Hebrew Bible at all (except for the Psalms and maybe the Proverbs). I submit that anyone who studies the Hebrew Bible first and then interprets the Gospels and the Epistles by the Hebrew Bible will have a significantly different understanding of the message of the “whole Bible” than if he were to read the Gospels and Epistles first and then interpret the rest of the Bible by his understanding of those later Greek additions to it. The LdS definition of the word, “scripture”, includes the Bible, the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, The Pearl of Great Price and “official” statements by LdS prophets. For that reason, when attempting to explain the protestant doctrine of the primacy of scripture to LdS, I don’t call it “the primacy of scripture”. Instead, I call it the principle of prior reference--the principle that anything purported to be special revelation should be evaluated and interpreted by older revelation. If Christians really believe they should do that--evaluate and interpret the Book of Mormon by older revelation--I submit that we should also do the same when comparing the Gospels and Epistles to the Hebrew Bible. In our culture, there are many people who say they believe in Jesus but their reason for saying so is that they have been taught they will burn in hell if they don’t. If Christians would really study how the birth, life, death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus fulfilled the prophecies of the Hebrew Bible, their faith would not be a blind leap in the dark. Their faith would be what John says Christian faith is--the evidence of things not seen.

@@ch-17vevo55 Hell has two meanings according to the Bible, one is a place of rest while awaiting the final judgement, the second is eternal torment. Revelation 20:12-15 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. 13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. 14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. Notice in verse 13 people were delivered out of hell to stand before God, they were in hell before they were even judged, so we can say with certainty the final judgement is not straight after death. Verse 14 claims hell was then casted into the fire, since everyone was delivered out of hell to stand before God no one was casted into the fire with hell, everyone is now standing before God. Revelation 20 doesn't say a single thing about faith or grace, but does say everything about our works in the book of life and that we will be judged according to our works, not according to our faith. So whether someone is casted into the fire or not is dependant upon their works, not their faith. A person who chooses to do good things rather than evil will not be sent to burn in hell, whether they have faith or not. The second death is "outer darkness", the other meaning of hell. When Christ was crucified he filled the gulf in between paradise and hell to create a bridge. Luke 16:26 26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. "there is a great gulf fixed:" Then Christ preached to those in Spirit Prison/Hell. 1 Peter 4:6 6 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit. Ephesians 1:10 10 That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him: "both which are in heaven, and which are on earth;" The gathering of Israel is on both sides of the veil, a prophecy to be fulfilled in the last dispensation of the fullness of times.

I think this response to one lady that escaped mormonism, to another that had just escaped, and found Jesus, sums it up so well: *_Diana T Beautiful, Beautiful testimony and I will sincerely and heart-felt give my "amen". I also was born and raised LDS, temple marriage, always active, etc, but just like you described, I felt dead inside. I didn't even feel like God loved me, truly, I'm not exaggerating that at all. It wasn't until I started listening to Christian sermons by various pastors that my eyes began to open and see a different God, a different Jesus. And even then I didn't fully put together that the church "was not true". I just figured I was finally understanding what everyone else at church, apparently and seemingly, understood but I just hadn't for whatever reason. Then life gave us a particular challenge that let me see that the Jesus I was just barely beginning to understand, the Jesus of Nazareth, was not, in fact, the one being taught at church. This led me to opening up my mind to the possibility of the whole church being false. And once that idea pops into your head it's like the fog that you didn't even know you were living in, disappears and the sun shines brightly, and you see everything just so much more clearly. It's wonderful and delightful and beautiful to the taste, for real. Jesus' burden is in fact light, and His yoke really is easy. I'm humbled at the simplicity. Thanks again for sharing your testimony. I loved and appreciated reading it._* :) ♡ LoveInJesus

1DayFurtherFrom, nice con, but you have replaced Jesus for Satan, who pretends to be Jesus in the divided sects that Jesus says are of the devil. You say LDSs' Jesus (of the Godhead) is a fake (I'll take that as meaning Satan) and I say logic dictates it's the trinity that's the fake, and Satan is behind it. So, cut out the pretended feelings and just discuss the facts, as they are found, mostly in scripture but anywhere it's reliable and not gossip. The stakes are high, as is laid out in Jesus saying this in John 17:3 - " And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent." Logic dictates either LDS worship Jesus and Christians, Satan, or Christians, Jesus and LDS Satan. Jesus is saying it's eternal life for those who get the true God, so it's logical to assume it's not for those who settle for a fake. As is said - high stakes. To illustrate the concept that Satan would dare pretend to be Jesus, I will give two biblical examples. First, he appeared to Moses saying "I am God, worship me." Moses wasn't fooled. Next, he tried it with Jesus after his 40 day fast. Again, Jesus rejected him. So, has Satan stopped trying to substitute himself to be worshipped? No, he succeeded at the council at Nicea, where he cemented himself in the contrived doctrine of the trinity, and Christians have worshipped him, ever since. Christians are fooled. This is where the notion of a crazy, schizo, MPD suffering freak replaced the natural concept of a Godhead. This is where the understanding of said monster was explained away as the 'mystery' beyond man's ability to comprehend. Well, alarm bells should ring because that negates knowing the true God, and removes the possibility of eternal life. To know them is more than knowing about them, and it requires a personal relationship above just reading events that happened to others. However, if the beings (or being) are not the same as us, and are magically impossible, we can't have a meaningful relationship. The Godhead is capable of a relationship, but a trinity (as per the creeds that partly describe it) is not. It is not even something we would want. We don't all rush down to asylums to befriend the schizo MPD's, preferring our friends to be one personality per person. We (people, in general) would rather the limited relationship of a pet dog or cat than nutcases, except Christians want a three-in-one spirit (3 in 0, when you consider we have bodies) for a relationship. And what is that relationship? As far as I can tell, the goal is to get a harp and a cloud and sing your lungs out to them (him) forever. Some relationship! It's no wonder atheists concentrate on a good time. Jesus gives us clues as to who follows the true God, and who follow after false gods - by their fruits. If we look at what LDS do, and what divided Christianity does, the fruits will show who's god is the true God. I'm betting logic points to the LDS having the true God, and am willing to discuss it with real evidence. It was the same Jesus of Nazareth who stood besides Elohim of near Kolob and spoke to Joseph Smith, and is the one taught at LDS churches every week, and no other is taught. You lie. Lying is a fruit of Satan and is rife among Christians. If you can discuss the nature of the Christian Jesus while I discuss the nature of LDS Jesus, we can determine who is on the path to eternal life. Are you up to it? I say you can't be, as that is about as impossible as the trinity is. Go back to the true church. If the fog is lifted and things are more clear, you would be able to meet my challenge, but that is just another lie, isn't it? You know it is.

Hi Eric, thanks for the response. You've stated so many ideas, it is difficult to speak to one topic in that "Gish-Gosh" of a response to me. I think the real problem, when Christians and lds speak is, as you stated is this. To you, as you stated, "So, cut out the pretended feelings and just discuss the facts, as they are found, mostly in scripture but anywhere it's reliable and not gossip" I would love to discuss the facts, but they are to Christians, not *_"mostly in scripture"_* , they are *_only in scripture._* I know your church states that the Bible is God's word, as long as it is translated correctly. To which I would agree. The issue is, I can show you it is translated correctly on different topics, but you won't accept this, or will you? I won't as you did attack me personally, call m a liar as you do with all Christians. The issue to me is, what does God's word, the Bible state. I must state, you are not a liar, if you are sincerely believing an error, you are simply mistaken, and that would be of anyone. It is a bit difficult to speak to some that casts others in a negative light, or casts their attitudes as what I believe, and always again, in a negative light. Does that really lead to discussion? REally? So, as a beginning, to discuss something scripturally, (and that is always to a Christian, in reference to what is clearly stated in the Bible). Since you have started with the idea of Jesus, who the Bible says He is. I will attempt to give you my Bible study on this. Now, if you don't "like" what I state, that is irrelevant to me. The question is what does the Bible say, clearly, over and over. Yes the perspicuity of the Bible is plainly stated, as of course God does want all of us to know Him, of course it would be plainly stated. So, give me a moment and I will share a simple study with you. I love God's Word, the Bible and have been studying it since the day I asked Jesus to save this ole sinner.. 47 years ago. LoveInJesus

Part 2: To finish the thought. I just love the rest of that verse. 1) John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. This is really a 3 part study, but I will do it in 2 parts as I posted the first already and for times sake will do in 2 parts, so now let’s focus on “the Word was with God” With God (pros ton theon). Though existing eternally with God the Logos was in perfect fellowship with God the Father. It depicts intimate fellowship. We see this as "pros" in the accusative case, presents a plane of equality and intimacy, face-to-face communion with each other. We also wonderfully for us Christians! See this in 1Jo_2:1 we have a like use of “pros”: “We have a Paraclete with the Father” (paraklēton echomen pros ton patera). Also in the structure of 1 Co 13:12 ( πρόσωπον πρὸς πρόσωπον ) prosōpon pros prosōpon (face to face, 1Co_13:12). So we have the Word, and the NT asserts the paradox that Jesus is separate from the Father, but also that He is one with the Father and as the Father *_eternally_* was so. 2)Now the last "the Word was God" This verb is imperfect tense as in Joh_1:1 a. There is no article (which identifies the subject, with Theos, but Theos is placed first in the Greek phrase for emphasis. This verse and Joh_1:18 are strong statements of the full deity of the pre-existent Logos as does Joh_5:18; Joh_8:58; Joh_10:30; Joh_14:9; Joh_17:11; Joh_20:28; Rom_9:5; Heb_1:8; 2Pe_1:1. Jesus is fully divine as well as fully human (cf. 1Jn_4:1-3). He is not the same as God the Father, but He is the very same divine essence as the Father and as the scripture tells is “the Word was God”. Not “a” god, as the Word has the article, “The Word was God”. Period. The NT asserts the full deity of Jesus of Nazareth, but protects the distinct personhood of the Father. The one divine essence is emphasized in Joh_1:1; Joh_5:18; Joh_10:30; Joh_14:9-10; and Joh_20:28, while their distinctives are em-phasized in Joh_1:2; Joh_1:14; Joh_1:18; Joh_5:19-23; Joh_8:28; Joh_10:25; Joh_10:29; Joh_14:11-13; Joh_14:16. To finish, we see: Joh_1:2 This is parallel to Joh_1:1 and emphasizes again the truth that the Word become flesh, Jesus, has from before time began, uncreated, never "birthed", *_"before the ages of time"_* , has always been with the Father, never "progressed" as God is complete, Holy, eternally "was", AGAIN, in verse 2, to reiterate, " as we are told. *_"ἦν”, “was", which is meaning absolute existence_* I just love that God chose the Greek language to give us the New Testament, and how expressive and rich it is, and as we look, so by seeking Him and looking into it, so exposes the errors of the cults, like Mormonism.. So this is for you dear brothers to hopefully help you in your struggles to get the LDS to see there errors...Sadly, they are willingly blind in so many cases, and have a "form" of religion, but deny Him, and the Father's record of the Son...they are, well look into the epistle's of John to see how the old apostle depicted those that deny who Jesus is.. saved, knowing Jesus, is not how he depicted those folks. 1Day Further, it must be difficult for you to insist in the bible only as a reference when you get your definition from a creed written in 326 AD. This is the crazy, impossible God you worship, devised by Satan, and only claimed by his many divided sects as being the same 'conceptually' with the Gods of the bible. Well, that is a disconnect with the bible, because the 'conceptual' component is man made, and wrong. For most of what you claim, it is of Jesus a separate being to the Father, and it is only in the creeds that meld this separate being into a schizo, MPD suffering single spirit, ergo, the trinity, which is not named in the bible, and is conceptually mad. It is so mad that (like I said) the bible says we must know them to get eternal life, and the definition of the trinity produces something that is impossible to know. Ask any minister for how you can even understand the trinity, and they will tell you it is supposed to be a mystery. This is contrary to what's in the bible, and yet you must defer to it. If you want to use only the bible, then I am happy to restrict it, but I must point out your hypocrisy in letting a bad decision at Nicea dictate what is in the bible, and will show that it's not even 'conceptually' contained there. Forget the translation waffle and just make plain what "with god and was god" is telling us in John. I will start by saying the term 'god' is a singular and plural word which, though rare in English, we are most familiar with when we speak of sheep. So, when Jesus "you are my sheep", we have to presume he is talking to one or many by the context surrounding the statement. On this understanding, alone, the 'was god and was with god' is just about explained in the most natural way - the Godhead, which IS found once in the bible, as to nowhere for 'trinity'. They are triune, but triune is NOT trinitarian. As an example, we could consider two Generals who had the same surname (say Jones), and were two distinct individuals, John and Pete. In the beginning was John Jones (the word) and John Jones was General Jones (God), and John Jones was with General [Pete] Jones (God). Put another way; in the beginning was John, and john was General Jones, and John was with General Jones. While it is easy to see real people being distinct, we need to do two things to con people into believing they are the very same being, and people must be gullible to fall for this stunt, because they accept the crazy impossible. This two things, you have done. First it's the assumption that 'god' is a singular word that must not be plural, and secondly it is to waffle on about translations to distract and confuse the gullible. So, let's look at events in the bible that show your take on a trinitarian god is crazy, and impossible? I will split the post, here, so that you can digest your errors, thus far.
@gunnerlawts

1DayFurther, here are some other events that make the trinity a lie in the bible ('was god and with god' means distinct; already explained), and there are much more than what I use: I will skip the conception, and just say the trinity essentially teaches god dived into Mary after he impregnated her, which makes for some impossible prayers, later, and begin at Luke 2:52 "And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man." Your take is God has always been all-knowing, so how can Jesus increase in wisdom? Then there is the increasing in favour with God - how does he develop self-approval, and isn't that pride? We need two distinct beings for this to be normal. Next, Jesus' first recorded prayer: Luke 10:21 (KJV) "In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight." Does Jesus thank himself? Did he consider himself to be lord of heaven and earth at that time? Did Jesus reveal those things unto babes? And did it seem good in Jesus' sight? If so, why is he telling himself? Jesus is definitely praying to someone else, and that's why I reminded you that the trinity says one god became his own son and that means there is nobody left to pray to. Then there is his baptism: Luke 3:22 (KJV) "And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased." When Jesus prayed, he could have prayed to nothing, but this event shows there was something up there - it spoke. Of course, if you want to maintain the trinity is conceptually there, then you would have to admit Jesus was a ventriloquist, and dealt in trickery. A man calls Jesus good and he responds: Mark 10:18 (KJV) "And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God." Pretty strange if he thinks he is that 'one'. Normal if you ditch the evil trinity and stick to the Godhead. Jesus tells us his purpose: John 6: 38 (KJV) "For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me." Here's some real meat. He came down from heaven, so he was god and also with god. Fits in with the prior posts, but what distinction does he add? - That it wasn't to do his will, but the will of someone who sent him. Two wills, and a sent and a sender. Clearly, this negates god jumping into Mary. This blows the trinity right out of the water. There are many more scriptures that speak of Jesus only doing what he has seen the Father do. On the cross: Luke 23:34 (KJV) "Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots." If Jesus is the Father, why ask to forgive? Separate beings. The cross has a few other statements that show the two were distinct, such as "into thy hands I commend my spirit". Not possible when he left to become Jesus. After the resurrection: Luke 24:39 (KJV) "Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have." Let me remind you that the trinity teaches that god is spirit? This is Jesus proving he is flesh and bones, so major problem for you, culminated when two angels say this same Jesus will return in like manner as they saw him leave. Stephen's stoning: Acts 7:56 (KJV) "And he said, “Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God.” " Better than the ventriloquist stunt. This time this singular spirit god with MPD has appeared visually as two persons. Hardly displaying the 'concept' of the trinity in the bible. It's funny that they (God and Jesus) do the same with Joseph Smith, and people disbelieve what they do back somersaults to explain away the account of Stephen. That should be enough for you to respond to. It clearly shows the concept of the trinity is as non-existent as the word trinity in the bible, and I did not have to reference any other book. Bible, only. There are dozens more that add to the fact that the Godhead are three distinct individuals, and not three personalities in one spirit, sans body. Has Jesus discarded the resurrected body like an old rag to jump into an already crowded spirit? Will he take another body to return? Rubbish! As an ex LDS, you could have told me all this, but you choose to deceive people. It's a deliberate choice to serve Satan, on your part. You can't convince me the trinity is biblical when you know it isn't. You can't defend the trinity without referencing the creeds outside of the bible, because it does not exist IN the bible. However, I wish you would try. BTW, which sect is the one true church? You never say. Maybe we can discuss that next?

David Solomon the restored gospel concept is false or perhaps the Bible lies when it says the gates of Hell will not prevail against His church. Matthew 16:18 The priesthood is also false as Jesus gave that authority to *ALL* Christians by default when he said: _"All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."_ Matthew 28:18-20 Mormons have an incorrect belief that only those in this made up "priesthood" have some mysterious man-made authority but it is just more lies from LDS. Where did Paul get his authority? He wasn't Mormon and no one laid their hands on him. Paul received the full measure of the Holy Spirit by the direct work of Jesus Christ himself. This is where *ALL* Christians get their authority today. When people learn that this made-up idea about authority is part of a cult practice to fool those, only those that are fooled will believe it to be true. Jesus Christ didn't come to earth to start a church, building, organization or membership requiring signing papers and using the word "true" all the time. No, anyone can be saved just by believing that JESUS IS GOD and that He died on the cross for our sins so that we can go to Heaven with him after our judgment. (Romans 10:9-10, 1 Corinthians 15:1-4) Once the simple gospel of the Lord is known, everything else is just man-made made-up rules to grab power, money and personal glory. Only Jesus deserves the glory and when we pray to HIM, He will hear our desire to be forgiven and send us the Holy Spirit in our lives so that we may baptize others and preach His Word.

@VideoAudioDisco09 I can see you're not one to just regurgitate what's been preached; but rather you are a true thinker. One thing you say is true (about Jesus' 2nd coming: but understand that this is not the first 'failed' prophecy--if your definition of prophecy is "for-sure future telling." Prophecy is conditional, one example is Micah's 'failed' (according to your definition) prophecy of the destruction of of the temple: King Hezekiah amended his ways, though, and God did not follow through with the prophecy (Jer. 26). In the original, he did not say, "But if you will change your ways..." Though Micah's prophecy fell through, he was a _good_ prophet. This is just one example... As for the whole old testament saying there is no other Savior but Yahweh; 'Hear o Israel the Lord our God is one...' "There is none *beside* me, I know not any;" etc. Kudos, good job! I totally agree: if Peter had said in his first sermon, that "God is 3 persons" as is believed today, the Jews would have rejected Peter's message. Instead he referred to, "The Lord said to my Lord," etc., a scripture understood by the Jews and now made clear that David's God manifested Himself in flesh (Gal. says he robed himself in flesh, hence the 'begotten' son of God who has a beginning as flesh, inhabited by God, doing the will of God, Emanuel God with us.) As flesh he hungered, cried, and slept; but as Spirit he forgave sins and calmed seas etc.) In the ancient religions, people had to make sacrifices and hope the Gods would accept them; however, in Christian religion God says, "Man is incapable of appeasing me, so I will appease myself," and He (God) provided himself (not 'a son who was up there with Him') He provided Himself a living sacrifice. He (singular) was the Father in creation, Son in redemption, and Holy Spirit in regeneration. Not two spirits, either; only one. We say "God is everywhere present." But we use the term "God" if we're talking about a bar (the spirit of God is in hell, heaven, brothels, etc.-everywhere) BUT we refer to Him as the Holy Spirit in Holy settings (church etc.). I don't know if this makes sense to you, but do know this: Just because there are seeming discrepancies in the Bible that some people cannot answer does not mean that there are no thinking or scholarly Christians.

The Book of Mormon was translated in approximately three months. Just as a comparison it took Tolkien 12 YEARS to write the Lord of the Rings. The amount of detail and character depth would have been impossible for Joseph Smith to imagine up especially with everything else he was doing in his short 38 years of life. I also find it interesting that through LiDar imaging they are finding enormous civilizations currently buried under what appears to be mountains but are no less than historic cities. I know that Jesus Christ is our savior and the gospel will continue to spread over the whole earth in preparation for his second coming. Fyi, we do not worship Joseph Smith, anyone who says that has clearly failed to see the name of the church which is the church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints.

Kristen C Davis the Book of Mormon contradicts the Bible, so either Joseph smith is a liar and the BOM is false or the Bible is false. They both can't be true since the Jesus in the Bible is not the same Jesus in the BOM. Not to mention that the Bible states that people will try to preach "another Jesus & another gospel" 2 Corinthians 11:4 & Galatians 1:6-9. And lastly, if Joseph smith is indeed a liar, would the Mormon church still stand? Could it still be true?

@@youdontneedtoknow9980 the Book of Mormon is another testament of the same Jesus that's in the Bible, there is no contradiction. I respect this mans sincerity and faith. I just want to show one case in point which shows how some of these common questions are not always given fair trial. The gospel wasn't preached to the Gentiles until shortly after Christ's ministry upon the Earth. This could bring up similar questioning (i.e. "Am I considered unclean? Inferior? Why would God exclude anyone at anytime? etc.). I'm not agreeing with the Missionaries explanation on the reason for the ban on the Priesthood for the blacks, but I think that one should be slow to solidify any conclusions or misjudge Mormons because of one failed attempt to handle such a sensitive subject. Atheists have issues with slavery in the Bible, which forces us to come up with what we genuinely feel is a sufficient explanation. Yet, for them, it will be unconvincing no matter what we say, because of their, underlying, hard set beliefs about the identity of God. Any way, that's just an example(among others) of how other Christians can find themselves in the same scenario, having to defend the Bible. It will always be a matter of prayer, study, and faith. I believe God is doing a great work among all his children. Let's do our utmost, no matter how pitiful that may be, to follow Christ and stand with Him in these last days, and all our questions will be answered in due time.

I think Jesus went to the Jews first because they were meant to already be Gods children. As such they needed to be reconciled first as if anyone was going to be reached the most likely would be those that already believe but are lacking in some way. They were supposed to already know God so if they accepted Jesus then how much easier would it be to then reach those that didn't know him or God? Of course it's a bit of a double edged sword because if you're resisting God then the more you hear about him the harder your heart becomes towards him. But if the people could see a change in those that do believe then they themselves would be easier to reach.

Israel was God’s chosen, first-born son among the nations. They were God's first covenant people so that through them, He could give His beloved Son, Jesus Christ to the world. Understand that salvation came through the Jews first simply because it was God's calling for them as a nation; John 4:22 "...salvation is from the Jews". Mormon teachings are not in line with the word of God and cannot be considered a biblical Christian faith. Jesus IS God. He is not the brother of satan, He created all things including satan. We will not be gods of our own planets one day. And what blasphemy and pride to think that we could be on the same level as almighty God. Satan fell because he was full of pride and he wanted to be a god himself- let this be a warning to this evil teaching.

Same with Rahab, the harlot, who also became part of Jesus' lineage.

It really is incredible how this preacher, Mr. Chan, is saying that there is no way, starting with the Bible alone, one could come to the conclusions and doctrines that are compatible with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. He says we don't read the Bible but we do and I can say I read the Bible at least 8 times on my two year mission alone... because there is a study program. Also, I read it in depth during early morning seminary before my mission, and got a two years study in of the Bible, every single school day! Then also at church each wee in Sunday school we had another two years of Sundays studying the Bible, then two years of Book of Mormon and D&C the next two years, and then repeat, FOREVER. So for him to say we don't know the Bible because we supposedly do not read it is not honest. He knows we do. I say, having read the scriptures possibly more than this preacher who seems to focus on things that are not even true as a majority of his sermons... where he criticizes those of other faiths as a sensational tactic, I can say that the doctrines I believe seem to me to be much MORE compatible with the Bible than the ones he believes.. he seems to doubt his very potential as a child of God. The Sermon on the Mount teachings by Jesus Christ in Matthew 5-7 are so important in instructive. Often ignored by many Christians who don't get it when Jesus teaches Be Ye Therefore Perfect EVEN AS Your Father Which is in Heaven is Perfect...So he would teach that he could NEVER be as the Father, but Jesus says it there, right there, and it is just plainly ignored.

Please know that he and others (including myself) genuinely care for you and your families and that we have no hatred for you or your families on a personal level. With that said, Chan is correct. LDS are saying that the Bible text had and has been corrupted and now corrected by the LDS church. Notably there have been further corrections to the texts that make up the Bible since the killing of your prophet. Perplexingly, there is no credible ancient texts that support the "tweaking" of traditional OT and NT Biblical texts by the LDS. Chan is also correct in noting that the entire foundation of the LDS church is built on one man. I personally note that this oneman had many predictions not come true.

Nelson, thanks for your genuine concern. However, its not as you suppose that the Bible has been "tweaked" by a modern prophet. Actually, if you would think this through, the Bible was "tweaked" by ancient scholars who had no God given authority or inspiration, and you are trusting in that at face value. Think about this, if God actually gave the words of scripture to ancient prophets, and those words were "tweaked" by scholars or even by bad priests not of God (like int he days of Constantine, 300 AD, where the dark ages begin and we have face prophets and teachers and preachers all doing what they do to corrupt the church of Jesus Christ, they also "tweaked" the scriptures. You might want to think about how you could "prove" this wrong if you don't agree with it... the dark ages is actually on the logical side that things got changed and tweaked, they BURNED people at the stake for trying to read and write the Bible!!). They were bad. If the Bible got "tweaked" then only a prophet of God could change it back. Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints is built upon one man, namely Jesus Christ, the Chief Cornerstone, but don't forget that Jesus also called 12 Apostles and gave them authority. When Jesus was gone from the earth, Peter was in charge. Centuries later, Joseph Smith was in charge. But Jesus Christ is always there, always still there, and He still calls 12 Apostles.

@@bookofmormonanswers With your answer "the Bible was "tweaked" by ancient scholars who had no God given authority or inspiration," The original texts of the NT in the originating language seem to be unavailable leaving us with the Greek texts. I trust those scholars back then over JS. Indeed, you make an unsubstantiated accusation that they had "no God given authority or inspiration...." That is a bold accusation to make of them and I Timothy tells me to be careful to avoid making such accusation against an elder without 2 or 3 witnesses.

Hi everyone! This is just a friendly reminder that Mormon is just a nickname and the true name of the religion is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I am a member of this church and while I understand what is being said, some of the information about our doctrine is slightly misunderstood. First, we do believe that faithful members who are baptized and receive other sacred ordinances CAN become like God and live with Him, which is His ultimate gift to us. Regarding the family tree of Gods, that doctrine is uncertain and hasn't been directly revealed to us; those missionaries were just making assumptions and discussing things that missionaries shouldn't discuss with investigators because they are just too deep and far-reaching for anyone to understand. Second, it is true that blacks weren't allowed to hold the priesthood until 1979 but that is NOT because of the curse that was placed on ancient unrighteous peoples. Again, it hasn't been revealed to us exactly why that was the Lord's will, and those missionaries were just making assumptions. I have read the Book of Mormon cover to cover on my own several times and I can testify that it is true. I know that it is an extension of God's words in the Bible and the teachings in the Book of Mormon do support all our doctrines. We have other beliefs that are not contained in the Book of Mormon, which have been revealed to us through modern day prophets. Becoming like God does not mean that you will become God or a god. I have read the Book of Mormon and God has told me it is false. As a Christian, I do not worship the LDS Heavenly Father. I worship the true and living God the Father who has always existed and was never once a man. The true and living God has said that He is not a man. Numbers 23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent I Samuel 15:29 And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent. Hosea 11:9 for I am God, and not man; the Holy One in the midst of thee: Job 9:32 “In truth I know that this is so; But how can a man be in the right [b]before God? “For He is not a man as I am that I may answer Him, That we may go to court together. "God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth." - John 4:24 "A spirit does not have flesh and bones" - Luke 24:39 I Timothy 1:17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen. Why don't you worship the true and living God? The true and living God was never once a man. He is an uncreated being. The true and living God has always existed. He is the first, uncaused cause of everything you see. He lives outside of time, space and matter because He created time, space and matter. He is self-existent. He has no mother or father, does not need air, food, water, sex, sleep, shelter, clothing, etc.. He is omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent, immutable, transcendent, infinitely holy, eternal and so much more. The highest heavens cannot contain Him. The true and living God created Adam out of the dust of the ground. No wife needed. No pre existence.

I don’t have all the answers, that’s what I’ve learned, and neither do Mormons or Christian believers. One thing however I’m certain about and that is the answer to Francis Chan’s core question is NO ! The fully developed Mormon Theology can not be deducted from the Bible and I recon most Mormons would agree. Mormons do claim their own revelations and in all fairness, sometimes they got it right and sometimes they got it wrong and I’m afraid these are not trivial matters. The most amazing thing however is little discussed and that is that the second largest Mormon church as a whole has gone main stream evangelical ! This is really a great discussion here. I enjoy reading your comments and appreciate that so many engage here and present such a wide spectrum of view points. The hottest question is are Mormons saved and can mormons who’s heart is right with God be considered Christians in spite of the heretical doctrines and rituals they incorporated into their credo in the name of Jesus ? Will the belief in extra biblical false doctrines separate mormons from Christ’s salvation ? While I was a Mormon I surely believed i was saved by Christ and centered in Christ and every faithful Mormon sincerely strives to live close to his saviour. When I stepped out Into the charismatic camp I met Christians that live closer to Christ and the Holy Spirit and some not as close as Mormons do. It is important to realise that The Book of Mormon was built to a large degree on biblical Christianity. Later Mormonism blended with Masonry and other deviant man made innovations that where incorporated by Joseph Smith and accepted by the faithful as divine revelations of Jesus Christ. A large body of Mormons rejected these esoteric revelations but with their zeal weakened by disappointment in their deviant prophet they largely failed to multiply their flock. As to myself I love the Mormons, especially my dear mother, sister, nephews and nieces. I don’t know if any will in future convert to pure biblical Christianity, but I don’t believe they will go to hell if they don’t. I trust his grace power is sufficient for either their conversion or redemption from hell. All I can say is that if the sinners prayer is the sole requirement for salvation than Mormons are covered !

The sinners prayers isn't required for salvation... a simple belief that Christ died for our sins, he then rose from the grave and is with the Father interceding for us and preparing a place for those whose faith is in Him alone. .... no works, no baptism, no anything... Christ and Christ alone... not by works lest any man shall boast.

@@ChCh-nt9hl It is very unlikely you would stay with 'all' of your family for all eternity. Jesus Divides Families Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn ‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law - a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’ (Mat 10:34-36) Why is that clear truth about the Lord Jesus Christ dividing families avoided? Because people generally want to preach and hear about a loving, all-accepting gracious Savior, who smiled and preached easy to receive teachings with little or no demands placed on them. They want to believe in a Savior like that, a mythical god, not one which divides families! The God of truth (Isa. 65:16) is the God of the Bible. Since truth divides, then Jesus would naturally divide his followers away from those who reject and hate God’s truth, even one’s natural family members. Remember, Jesus divides families: Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.” (Luke 12:51-53) Jesus Came To Divide - NOT Bring Peace On Earth To be worthy of Jesus and eternal life, one must side with God’s truth even though it divides his own family. The Book of Mormon deciphers many of the disagreements among Christian Denominations to help us know which interpretation is correct. For example; John 10:16 16 And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd. 30 years ago God saved a wretch like me through the Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder Day Saints (Mormon). Yes we are Christians. Brenda Prentice - I can never argue with this testimony, even if to me Mormonism seems to be a virtual faith reality. We evangelical Christians tell people all you need to do is being born again and God looks at your heart. So even if we don’t agree on all doctrine, who am I to question your salvation or sow doubt when you are so sure and secure in your faith. God bless you.

If you started with the Bible, you would be walking exactly as the Disciples walked. Including the way they ministered through love and faith. Healing, prophecy, and all of the gifts would be much more widespread today, and God would be glorified. I'm in the Bible constantly and always finding things I can change in my life to follow God better, it's hard to fathom anyone getting this from just some Sunday sermons. We need to get to know God personally and be passionately in love with Him. Then evangelism, life, holiness, they don't come from striving; they come effortlessly from living!

Almost all of the disciples were martyred too though brother. Not every disciple in the NT did miracles? Mainly the apostles. Not everyone had the gift of prophecy which is why Paul in 1 Cor 14 wanted them to seek that gift even above praying in tongues in a church as prophecy could edify the church.

@Not Steve everyone has atleast the basic understanding what they need to know, anything past that is on the individual in personal study, it is not "Mormons" members of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints who don't know what they believe, but not everyone needs to be a theologian to follow God, unfortunately people who are just trying to live a happy life get questioned things that they of course wouldn't know because we seek to learn how to live and to many people the details aren't extraordinarily important, the case is different for each person and how and what they study. I would argue that most people don't really know what they believe, maybe even anyone.

For the most part I have refrained from commenting on these things because most of the time people are different on the internet than they are in person. Also Solomon wisely tells us to drop issues before they become stumbling blocks for people, but I think he is more speaking of amongst friends, brothers/sisters, and countrymen etc. Nonetheless, for those of you regularly check up on these comments, here are my thoughts. I hope they direct you to the one true God, and his son Jesus. There are many who come in his name. If you do research in demonology (which I don't recommend doing alone), if you talk to people in the occult (both who were and are) if you take a good look at African and Asian and also Latino sacrificial cultures, as well as more and more different areas of real tangible evidence...you will come to understand that Satan comes to "steal, kill, and destroy" and that he is very good at it, or crafty. The way he does this is by misrepresenting the truth. I have encountered demons, I have also cast them out. They are real, and when you have the light of Christ and the Father making a home inside of you it very easy to spot false representations of truth. (like someone who is trained to see counterfeit dollar bills, it takes professionals an average of seven seconds to spot a counterfeit). Nonetheless Jesus, being incredibly intelligent and doing and saying all that His father commanded Him, knew people (despite the overwhelming evidence that History and His Spirit has given) would question whether he really is the truth or not. So he told them, listen "many will come in my name"...but they are not of me, do not listen to them. Jesus offers us his eternal perspective, already knowing the future (God being the only source of truth for anyone on this earth) Jesus is able to tell us what to look out for that is agains the truth because he knows all truth, thats what a higher being can do by defnition. This should contradict our feelings, and we should submit to the highest being of light, if he says we should, if we trust that He loves us and is not deceiving us. (And I think more than enough evidence has been given to prove that). That being said, Satan uses our feelings, twistings of truth and the original spirits that God gave us to express things like beauty, intimacy, love, tenderness, and all forms of affection. Feelings are not evil, but "sin so easily entangles" and we are led astray. I have watched brothers and sisters who enjoy opening their Chakras, thinking its a spiritual Christian act. They reap benefit from it (temporarily) and as the demons draw them in with temporal blessings, and as the demons indwell the person slowly, and convince this person by their feelings that "this must be the true way to live" (they say to themselves) the people are deceived and drawn away from God. Then when the moment is right I have watched these Demons crush people emotionally, physically, and in all sorts of ways. All their cars, money, family, friends. Gone. In a week. Their depression comes on soon, they are crippled spiritually, and useless for the kingdom which is a good thing for the evil one. It's called an episode of torment. God has redeemed many of these people however. I knew two of my friends who were twins in the occult. They saw people possessed, items floating in rooms, evil curses and blessings manifest, all sorts of evil manipulations of the power that exists in our world (a mixing of Heavenly and human creation, and the abuse of Satan and his followers of those powers to the harm of man.) This occurs all across Africa, Asia, and the Latino areas. The appeasement of the "good" spirits to gain protection from the "bad" spirits. But to the trained eye it is easily seen as a scheme to teach alternate realities to people all over the world, to convince them that "this must be the true way of life for I with my own eyes am seeing it manifest" and that Jesus is not true. Sadly, its a game that Satan is playing with all of them to convince them that their understanding and feelings are true, (EVEN SOME OF THEIR PERCEIVED REALITIES...scary), And that Jesus is not. To anyone who does not identify Jesus as the Son of God, and Lord of all things in Heaven and Earth. To anyone who does not believe that Jesus stands at the door of a man and knocks, and that whoever opens it, His Father and Him will come make a home in them. I say this... Repent and believe. Turn from what is false and follow what is true. Plenty of people have found God apart from the Bible by seeking Him. Plenty of people have also been deceived by their feelings in seeking what they thought to be God. What counts is this, "Teacher what is the work of God? Jesus replied, 'to believe in the one He has sent.'" Morman's specifically, you have been deceived by demons! Oh how my eyes tear up as I type this! You have been led astray and you are only working diligently for nothing! Don't base your understanding of truth on feelings, how fickle and changing! People get divorced based on feelings, when they have made a lifetime commitment, staring each other right in the eyes? And to that God says, "I am the Lord and I hate divorce" and I love that he says that. Some of you are saved, because of your sincere belief in Jesus, and praise God I will rejoice with you one day, and today. :) But for those who find rest in their "religion" and not in almighty God and His Son Jesus, I say this...if you are impartial, and you judge unfairly, if you do not lay your own pride, possessions, and pleasures down for your wife and for your God. If you enjoy honorary greetings in public places and your temples and buildings (for God does not dwell in temples made by human hands). If you do not lift a finger to help the poor, and the needy and amount wealth for yourselves and do not lay YOUR life down, take up YOUR cross, and follow Jesus. You are either lying to your self, or you are very deceived. So heart wrenching, GOSH I feel like ripping my clothes and tearing my stomach it causes me so much pain to even consider that....You will be tormented for eternity, for not submitting yourself to God, and serving your own body instead. "How long will the simple continue in their simple ways, and how long will fools resist knowledge of the Holy One." Oh dear world, how I long for you to be gathered with me by God, that we might be brothers and sisters together. "Your righteousness is found in repentance and rest! But you would have none of it." Go to your vomit, and continue to feast upon flesh, and pride, and money, and pleasures. Maybe you will notice some of your friends leaving the slums around you and being saved by Jesus, and ponder to yourself "where they have gone too?" just long enough to consider leaving yourself. I love you world, I truly do. And to all of my brothers and sisters who trust in Jesus, and the Father. "Be strong and courageous" and encouraged whilst today is still today. Watch and pray so that you do not fall into temptation, "for the spirit of man is willing, but his flesh is weak." Anyone is free to email me anytime. No money, no strange things, that you often see with people offering help. Just simple love and care from one man to others, because of what Jesus did. I care for all of you. "Freely you have received, now freely give."

A little context ... Those missionaries that visited his door were most likely just out of high school. They took two years out of their lives to help people come to Christ through baptism and repentance. They help people transform their lives through accepting Jesus' atonement. They paid their own way. They undergo a lot of rejection. It can be a tough job what they are called to do. They reach people that evangelicals may never reach and bring these people closer to Jesus. They challenge people to pray daily, read scriptures, and attend church. They challenge people to change for the good, to become better fathers, brothers, mothers and sisters. Just remember this, before judging putting them down and judging them too harshly. Unfortunately, I don't think the missionaries that spoke with Francis Chan were 100% accurate on their own doctrine. But, just remember, they are just out of high school, and are not experts on the difficult questions that a veteran preach like Francis Chan asked them. Just as Francis helps his audiences, Mormon missionaries also help people, and make a positive impact on a world that is turning away from the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Mormonism is not the gospel of Jesus Christ. I don't care if they were kids or not, mormonism has nothing to do with Jesus, regardless of what it may seem on the outside. I don't want to be unkind or ungracious, but I also want to be extremely firm: if anyone preaches ANY OTHER GOSPEL other than the gospel that Jesus preached, let that person be accursed. This is what the apostle Paul said in Galatians 1. Mormonism is no more the true gospel of Jesus Christ than is Islam. It is a legalistic idolatrous perversion that robs the one true God of His glory, teaching people to seek to break the first commandment by seeking to become gods themselves. Mormonism may teach that you should be a moral person, but so does Islam, and Buddhism, and Huddhism, and most religions out there, all of which lead to hell. Jesus Christ, His God and Father, and the Holy Spirit are the one true God who alone deserves all worship and glory and honor. He is eternal and immutable, and He alone is responsible for the salvation of every sinner He adopts as His child by Jesus' death on the cross.

A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. So you confounded them on an unessential, tangential, but true doctrine. Good for you. Let's be honest. If we all went back to that book we would all come back with a different religion, if we were left to ourselves. Certainly it is unfathomable to think of our God having a Father when you've been taught your whole life he's a ethereal Phantasm. But we read the same book at we came up with different conclusions. Are religion isn't founded on the Book of Mormon, it's founded on revelation. Revelation for the world not JUST personal revelation. The Bible is the foundation. The Book of Momon supports it and fills in the cracks left by the Jews, and the Catholics and the Good King. Because they were men and not prophets. I've read the Bible through. I've read the NT through. And the Church of Jesus Christ is the only version of the Gospel I will ever subscribe to.

Francis Chan has taken a step in the right direction. He has decided to evaluate and interpret the Book of Mormon by older revelation instead of the other way around. Now try to imagine what would happen if Mr. Chan were to apply that same principle to the study of the Bible, i.e. evaluate and interpret the later parts of the Bible by earlier parts instead of the other way around. In the twenty-first century, how many professed Christians even know how it happened that believers in Rome stopped evaluating and interpreting the Greek additions to scripture by the Hebrew Bible (the only Bible they had at first) and started trying, instead, to interpret the Hebrew Bible by the Gospels and the Epistles? How much of what so-called “evangelicals” teach today is only partly removed from the traditions that developed among churchmen in western Europe between the sixth and the eighteenth centuries? Did Jesus come to Earth to replace the religion of the Hebrew patriarchs and prophets? Or did he try, instead, to remove the rubbish of human traditions that had very nearly obscured what he himself had taught the patriarchs and prophets as recorded in the Hebrew Bible?
