francis has finally had it. he's decided to unload on certain games press publications and lost his temper and made this video. We don't know if it was IGN or Polygon or Kotaku or who pissed francis off but apparantly he's done.

video games make me think, make me angry, make me happy, make me sad, make me cry and make me laugh, hell they even taught me how to read back when i was a little kid (reading text in RPGs), if they arent an art then i dont know what is. Also, when Francis said about the way the characters move and jump etc are also art, i totally agree, when my character is climbing and or reacting to a punch etc. someone made that, someone took the time to show us his pain and struggle...just saying.

I also learned from videogames, thanx Sly Cooper for teaching me English. Also not only the way things move but the mechanics, like all the frame locks and cancels (to name a few) in fighting games, the interaction and possibilities between cards in HS, the overall world and lore behind WoW, the core of the game, the engine, the code is also an art. Looking at games like MGS5, beautiful for basically everything it is, and games like pokemon which btw it just requiered to wish me a happy bday to break to tears, it is art. Art isnt a painting, art is transmiting emotions from one person to the other.

great rant Francis (anyone know who the main offenders are?) I remember watching a show on Gamespot about Skyrim. One of the GS guys was talking about his experience in the game; he said there was too much dialogue; he had to click too many times to bypass the dialogue. He just wanted to follow quest markers and kill things. He was serious. A complete idiot. What the fuck was he doing in a show about an RPG like Skyrim? Kevin VanOrd (who is a real game critic) was there too. He was visibly shook by the ignorance of his colleague.

This video would have a greater impact if coming from Boogie / Steve. Unfortunately, many who need to hear this message will dismiss it because of it coming through Francis. mi7sen95 i agree. However, it would be harder to dismiss the issues raised in this video if Boogie was saying these things in a measured manner. Instead, this'll be dismissed as a comedy skit whilst the incredibly valid underlying subject is glossed over because Francis is raging as he usually does. If there's one video that needed a non-Francis approach it was this one. But, as I said, I don't think Boogie would welcome the inevitable focus on himself when people would begin to respond. Francis acts as a shield to deflect the criticism, which is a shame.

I'm gonna be real here. I'm that guy that doesn't give videos a like. Hell, I even disabled my channel from making playlists of liked videos because I consider it spam, personally. If I enjoy watching something, you're gonna know because that sub count is going to go up by one. That's just the type of guy I am. THIS is the second video this entire year that I've given a like just for the hell of it. You summed up exactly why I stopped looking at published reviews entirely, why I stopped looking at promotions entirely, and why I sold every major gaming console of mine that's not considered a retro console. I got sick of the bullshit. I became that jaded guy that would rather just invest more money into a PC so I could still enjoy games on the same machine I pay my taxes with. Hell, even now I find myself going back to fan favorite retro games I never had time for in the past purely because I know what I'm getting out of it at least. Thank you for this. Considering animation now works with upwards of 60 frames per second, and people actually take the time to hand craft IN DETAIL those animations second by second, it is a labor of love and no two animations are exactly identical from one game to another, I would call that part of the art that is the video game. When a character jumps in 3rd person, do they lift one leg or two? with swords how many slashes before a flourish? how many angles can you hold a weapon during a block and what angle do they attack from in melee combat? I mean, these all may seem like easy perhaps even obvious decisions to the uninspired but each decision helps to build up the character in question and has to be conducive to that character's personality AND the still work well for the medium it is being played on. Ya know how I know video games are an art? because it is not a science. You can not dump pre-made animations, mechanics, characters, props, lighting, effects, cameras etc.. and make it into a good game without giving it some style. we have seen companies do it and it did not go well for them. To someone who pours their heart and soul into something, basting it in blood, sweat, and tears... how can you NOT call that art? This coming from a digital artist himself! Arguing subjective bullshit, relying completely on textbook definitions, when there are dozens of other vastly more important topics you could cover concerning the industry. Who gives a fuck if ANYONE believes mechanics are "art" or not? Talk about how storytelling in games can be improved, give some feedback and suggestions to working developers. Because Han is able to speak the Wookee language, the heroes learn that Leia is imprisoned at the Mavassi outpost, an Imperial camp. Han, Skywalker, Annikin and the Wookees attack the Imperial base, but find that Leia has already been sent to Aquilae. A group of Imperial troops find Biggs and Windy, but are defeated.Annikin and Artwo fly an Imperial ship to the fortress, and Artwo accesses the computer. They find the location of the princess's cell. Annikin disables a stormtrooper and takes his armor. He is trapped by Imperial troops, and gassed into unconsciousness, and Vader ordered Valorum to execute him. Simultaneously, Skywalker commands a group of fighters piloted by Wookees, and the nine vessels head toward the fortress. Valorum has a last minute change of heart. He cannot kill his prisoner, and releases him. Together they find the princess and let her out of her cell. The power fails as a barrage of hits from the Wookees damages the space station. The heroes, including Valorum, boarded life pods and escape as it explodes. The new Queen of Aquilae, Leia, rewards the heroes in the Palace of Lite. The droids are upgraded to class A-4, and Annikin is appointed Lord Protector of Aquilae.

dragonfan36 ye i use a wacom for my drawings i am not the best but i love it. most people think the pc does it for you but then when i show them how you do it they dont know how i can spend hours doing one drawing.

I think what the industry is really lacking is awareness of video games as an art form that is quite possibly higher than that of TV or Movies, because unlike the medium of TV or Movies you are capable of feeling directly responsible for what happens to the character you are playing. The interactions of your character with the world are your own and its far more personal and enriching than so many people give it credit for. Especially older generations who just have zero concept of how you utilize a video game character to experience a world unlike the one you live in everyday. It frustrates me to no end to have to admit to members of older generations that I enjoy video games just as much as people in the past adored music, drawing or reading. The ill placed prejudice against gamers in society needs to be addressed. The issue Francis brings up certainly isnt helping matters any.
