early reviews and early access to Mass Effect Andromeda is are coming out and many people are dissapointed especially with the faces and animation. So naturally francis had to weigh in on the topic. Mass effect andromeda launches soon and a few people have had review copies as well as access to the game early via EA's early access. As a result many people have had some pretty big complaints about the game so francis wanted to sum them up

F2 Mercy I saw a comparison video and honestly the ME1 animations conveyed way more emotion... Also to fix an entire game's worth of animation is no easy patch. They'll either have to remake it or mo-cap it all from scratch. So unless they already did that and the bug is the animations playing incorrectly, (don't see how they could let that happen before release) then it's gonna be A LOT of work to fix

Pythos Sapunov ikr? After the mistakes of the last installment, you would think they'd have *brought their A-game*... instead all we r getting is a C- at best. Sorry but our dollars are hard earned. I expected a B at the least. I wanna make it abundantly clear, I'm sure it's an OK experience. But at this stage it's a passable one. Got enough of a backlog of solid titles that I don't have to trudge through a bug ridden and incomplete adventure. I hope they learn from this because we want them to succeed. This is constructive criticism, not destructive.

Its vastly superior to the previous 2 entries in terms of combat, whilst i think 2 has the better story i think the gameplay improvement surpasses the edge 2 has in story. buggy, day one dlc for content already on the disk, war resources that don't add anything, and an ending that was riddled with plot holes so much they had to go back and redo it because the "Speculation" didn't work as Hudson had planned. I watched a twitch streamer yesterday do a lot of conversations, and some of the people on the ship I actually quite like, one even reminded me of Alistair from Origins (heh I liked him!) And also got to see the main character be rejected by people, made me happy. So yeah, I'll probably wait and see what happens with the game, but everything is definitely not bad (I know bugger all about the main story though)

The reason you didn't hear anything postivie about the story, writing and characters is because you weren't looking hard enough. There are lots of people who are excited about the game, and a lot of people are satisfied after their 10 hour trial. It's just that those who don't like the game are the louder part of the community. edit: Of course, I'm not saying that the game doesn't have any flaws. In fact, some of them are quite noticeable, but I'm still going to get the game because for me, there are more pros than cons.

Huh, well this industry is just getting depressing. It has been years since I have truly been looking forward to a video game, it has been years since I have had any trust in a developer that isn't CD Projekt and TaleWorlds. This game was supposed to be the one that finally got me excited about video games again, after all it is a follow up to one of my favourite franchises. And yet here we are, 5 years after the release of Mass Effect 3, and this is what they give us. Monliego Game is not half bad as everyone makes it to be, just sayin. Yes A FEW animations are weird but 90%+ are perfectly fine. Plus everyone seems to ignore 90% of the game that is an improvement over the trilogy - much better looking, you aren't ducking behind a cover in every combat and you get to drive the Nomad and get into new and awesome locations with new story arcs. I don't get it, if you 'review' a game be objective, don't just pick on 1/10 of one feature of the game.

Looking at some of the gameplay footage, it's amazing how terrible it looks. You can just feel the cooperate overlord hand reaching up into this game's butt and forcing it out into the world, unable to shit out all the bad parts that were still there and in desperate need of fixing. No, in this case I do not believe it's the corporate overlords. Those guys want to make money and they see their fair share of games pass by. If anything they care about what marketing tells them and at least those guys must have told them that Bioware wasn't giving them anything worth showing the public. Which is why we never were shown anything interesting. Why we were shown videos with placeholder character models that are still in the goddamn game. Y'know stuff Bioware has done better 10 bloody years ago. The sane thing to do is figure out why the competent people left Bioware. And fire the people who made them leave. I gather it's the SJW's or whomever convinced product management that they can't tell Bioware employees to do a competent job. FFS, in 2004 we got Alyx Vance who looked better than this shit. That's 13 years ago. And even if product management at Bioware didn't say anything about this objectively terrible job. Even if the corporate overlords and marketing didn't. Their audience sure did. It was the first thing I thought about when I saw the very first bit of marketing material they put out a year ago. Bioware knew for over a year the faces were too ugly to be acceptable. The combat is much more streamlined that OG mass effect. In the original you had to pause every 2 seconds to use an ally's ability. shoot, tab >genade. tab> biotic. tab>choose target. Now they use hotkeys like most other ARPGs. Also jump jets, verticality. Weapon customization seems to be buried in too many menus.

I feel like pre-orders are killing the quality of games. I just don't think Bioware would have ripped us off like this if there wasn't an option of getting insane sales without people playing it first. People complain about ME3 but you can't deny that effort has been put into it and you can get a lot of enjoyment out of it. People also say Andromeda has other good things but with a story driven franchise like ME, you need good animations. I can't empathize with uncanny valley style creeps. Honestly, I would have preferred ME3 gameplay if it had a new story rather than this. Hopefully people will finally learn their lesson and stop pre-ordering

man you are so dead on. I got that EA access for 10 hours and I am so disappointed not even involved with the multiplayer. they had five years to do this game 5 years. I can't believe this game is bad. It isn't like the founders of Bioware left or the game was missing the Director, the Producer, lead Game Designer, all the previous Senior writers, the Lead Writer (left in 2), all the older experienced artists and Unreal Engine guys were replaced by inexperienced guys on a new engine, and the lead writer in 3 (who did not write Tuchanka or Rannoch which were high points) who solo lead wrote that awesome ME 3 ending and a really bad comic book was promoted. Oh wait...All of that happened and people STILL thought this game would be good. Mass Effect without Drew Karpyshyn or Casey Hudson is like Terminator without James Cameron. Bioware died in 2012. It's zombie dies with this game. You should have mourned THEN and you should have blamed EA. SWTOR, splitting up talent and teams and a insane 2 year deadline on ME 3 took it's toll. When the founders left EA took "direct control" and it has been downhill ever since and all led up to this. The problem here has to do with the fact that the fidelity of the character models (which has gotten quite high in recent years) has not kept up with animation. This is basically the uncanny valley problem. When you go from low poly triangle faces to enough polys to do lip sync and expressions it feels like a big boost in overall quality. However when you go from that to something that looks close to the real things but not quite there, then it looks disturbing. You start to notice little things like what happens in the corners of the eyes and mouth, skin textures, etc. Moreover, when the animation is created with volume in mind it makes the whole thing worse - these issues are amplified. This is not a problem with games like Uncharted in which the artists can devote a lot of time to produce a relatively small amount of content. However in games like RPGs which have not only vast amounts of dialogue but also branching trees of dialogue options, this becomes a major issue. Therefore the animation has to be created in such a way as to optimize volume of work produced with quality suffering. It may very well be that animation is generated procedurally based on the dialogue script. This obviously is not going to be able to compete with games like Uncharted in level of quality. As for comparisons with games like the Witcher - yes, the quality of art in the Witcher is quite remarkable, however you might also want to keep in mind that as a studio based in eastern Europe and drawing on a lot of freelance talent from the region, they have access to a pool of labor that is highly skilled and which is willing to work for a fraction of the cost. If I am right and the animation is generated procedurally in Andromeda, then it is very likely this can be fixed with patches.

I love how everyone is having a fit of rage (francis included, even though he is a character and he does it over the top and hilarious) over the animations, deciding to judge the entire game based on that factor alone as a POS. Some of them even go "yeah the game/combat is actually fun but there are some weird animations and I have only played an hour or so of the single player = 0/10, NO MANS ANIMATION BURN BIOWARE". As a mass effect fan, yeah the animations do seem a bit wonky, but I remember PLENTY of games with some pretty shitty animations, but a fun game overall. Skyrim Anyone? Fallout 3? (Man I remember laughing at some of the cutscenes there so much) Almost any of the Dragon Age games as well and more. To me it is always gameplay/story over animations/graphics. From what Iv'e seen so far, it seems like a game that I will most likely enjoy. Also, I hear that there will be a day one patch for some of the bigger bugs and later down the line, a fix for all you graphic snobs out there for the animations.

The only good thing about this game is the combat, but I've always been one who has tried to skip past combat, since I mainly play the ME series for it's story alone. For the people that are not in the industry, it may appear that the (animator) doesn't do a great job for the facial, but the thing is... it is an automatic system. No animators are involve for the lips sync. In a game like this, where you have a lot of dialogue, you have to rely on that. Sadly, the sytem they used was crap :(

I actually enjoy the new mass effect sure it's not perfect but it's a damn fun game I've heard a lot of negative reviews about it while it's not a perfect game it's still pretty fun nonetheless , it has a little bit of a rough start but I think the game has serious potential I think it falls flat because the beggining isn't very captivating but I think once the plot starts to unfold it will get a lot more Intresting, if your a fan of the mass effect trilogy than this is a game you should try non the less, however if this is your first mass effect I would wait for some full reviews to come out before deciding if this is the game for you
