Not really. Ngannou and all of his team have said countless times that Tyson helped as a motivator and that 95% of Ngannous training came from Dewey Cooper and Eric Nicsick whom also trained Sean Strickland for his win vs Adesanya. That's what makes this more impressive, imo.

Francis losing to Stipe the first time was the biggest blessing in disguise because that lesson completely changed his approach to fighting. He would always expend his energy to get a rapid KO, but after experiencing what it's like to run on an empty gas tank, he became so much more patient and methodical.

While I agree that fight was a turning point in his fighting career, he already was a patient counter striker, just watch his fights. People thinking he was a reckless brawler who used up his energy to get a quick KO and go for broke is a misconception. He knocked people out so fast because of his otherworldly power. What Miocic did to him was forced him to expand his game in the mma field, by learning how to wrestle and defend the takedowns.

To put it in perspective, Ngannou's last fight was 3 years ago, an MMA bout wherein he defended his title using WRESTLING. He then entered boxing at 0-0, against the Undisputed Lineal HW champion, and went after him for 10 rounds in a fight where all the impactful moments favored Ngannou - including the knockdown, the cut, and the best combos of the night. Ngannou, despite being renowned as a power puncher without notable skills, arguably showcased the superior boxing technique - having landed the better counters of the night, and showcasing the more sound technical defense - by avoiding any notable shots that hurt, wobbled, stunned, or even forced him to shell up or retreat. Ngannou was never put on the ropes, Fury was. Ngannou was never hit with a lengthy combination - Fury was. Ngannou was never off balance, Fury was 3 times. Ngannou was never stuck on the ropes, Fury was. Ngannou was never cut or bruised, Fury was. At the end of the night, Ngannou had given the Undisputed Heavyweight boxing champ a tougher fight than arguably anyone ever. And that includes Deontay Wilder - a top ranked boxer who has KO power AND years of professional boxing experience and training. I still cannot process the implications of this. Francis not holding a title in MMA or boxing makes it even weirder, and perhaps more frustrating, to process.

I think many people thought it was a "moral victory" just to show up against Tyson... just something to check off a fighter's bucket list. For Francis, it wasn't about just showing up, but dominating. He puts his heart into everything he does. He has no quit in him. This man's origin story has forged a mental toughness few can appreciate. I certainly can't fully. But one thing I do know is that whatever he puts his mind to, this person accomplishes. While Ngannou was with the UFC, he reportedly only made around 5 million dollars for about 10 heavyweight division fights. His highest paycheck reportedly being the $600,000 for his Heavyweight title defence. And overall, wasn't treated as well as he should've been even considering he became champion above every other division. Sadly, Ngannou was gaslighted by the UFC for having the 'audacity' to know his own worth. Ngannou enters the sport of boxing and reportedly makes over 10 million dollars in one exhibition match. @davidp5262 Жыл бұрын
I think one advantage Francis had coming from MMA is that punches in MMA hurt a lot more with the small gloves. Getting hit with average power by a boxing glove is gonna hurt way less, and we already know Francis has a great chin. Plus Fury isn’t known for his power. So I just think Francis wasn’t afraid of getting hit. He figured he could take most of the punches and just focus on counterpunching, which is how he scored the knockdown.

@DESHONERAY93 Жыл бұрын
The power difference in relation to glove size in minuscule. The gloves protect your hands from being broken, not the fighter being punched. What people need to understand about boxing is that the HW division has and will always be the weakest division, SKILL WISE in boxing. So many HWs in boxing have become champions after beginning their training as adults. Freaking Ali lost to a guy who had 7 fights, and lost to a guy who started boxing as an adult. The narrative around Tyson Fury, " oh he has as much skill as Welterweight, and moves like a Welterweight" NO HE DOESN'T. " He is one of the greatest HWs of all time" No he's not. He beat an old Klitchsko, and Deontay Wilder ( who began boxing as an adult). Those are Tyson Fury's notable wins. Who else has he fought besides that? HWs only need the basic fundamentals because HWs have the power to compensate for their lack of skill. Saying Ngannou had zero chance fighting in a HW boxing match is ridiculous.

@@DESHONERAY93all amazing points. You’re spot on with everything. Only thing I’d slightly disagree with is I don’t really think Francis looked like a top level boxer in there aside from obviously the knock down. I get what you say about somebody being bumped from the rankings… BUT… All of those guys probably know that they couldn’t last 10 rounds with fury on a bad day. And I don’t think he was at his best. But I also don’t believe he was at his worst.

I don’t think this fight disproves boxing, I think mayweather v mcgregor is a better example. Heavy weights can be carried by sheer strength, a single placed power punch by nygannou regardless of combat sport would knock any down. Nobody fights at 100% after a punch like that, not to downplay nygannou because after all he did land it

I don't have 18 minutes to listen to uncle chael, can someone summarise this video please.

Anyone remember how Chael was adamant that Francis didn’t have the opportunity for this fight when he walked away from the UFC? That aged well
@Tinanbobby Жыл бұрын
Yes boxing sucks but Francis did great 👍 everyone should be proud of what he did on betting on himself when NO ONE gave him a shot and DANA white did the right thing 4 the UFC business wise but that 1 percent shot came thru and it came thru in a huge way congrats Francis you deserve it bro with love from Canada 🇨🇦

Taking nothing away from Francis, that was the worst Fury we ever seen. He probably is on decline and didnt prepare fully for this camp. Coming in fat and treating camp as losing weight camp isnt what camp is supposed to be. And the fact he booked Usyk right after means he underestimated Francis(despite the fact he says othervise) and treated the first camp as get into shape camp and not fighting shape camp. He just looks incredibly slow and sluggish.
@patrickkuffour Жыл бұрын
Not true, fury said he prepared for 12 rounds and he said he took his training seriously. So what are you talking about?

Maybe mma fighters have much better reflexes because they are used to reacting to punches, kicks, and takedowns. So if they are fighting a boxer it’s much easier for them to track punches only.

We will have to see the second fight to fully understand the first and it sounds like we'll get the chance. Francis will make so much money in those two fights we'll likely never see him again in MMA. He'll probably fight Wilder next and then who knows. Prob make a living off gimmick fights every now and then for the rest of his career. I just hope he doesn't mess around in boxing too much. You can get your brain damaged seriously if you should not be there and even if you should.

Francis did more damage but Fury won more rds. Did you see Islam vs Alex 1? Alex did more damage but Islam won 3/5rds Same thing happened with GSP vs Hendricks, Jon Jones vs Dom Reyes... Fury still won but Francis did way better than expected.

Any racer will know this is true. When you race against the top talent, everyone drives very similar and the races are won and lost on the margin. But, when you drive against a lot less talented drivers, they will be unpredictable, which can cause you a lot of concerns when trying to pass, block, etc. However, we all grew up as a rookie and should be able to adjust accordingly. Which is of course, easier said than done when it is game time. Hats off to Francis for putting on a hell of a perfomance. Watch the UFC get into boxing and sign Francis!
@christianwitte81 Жыл бұрын
I think everyone is still a little high on the moral victory from Francis. He still lost rounds 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 9, and 10. That's a lot of rounds to drop in a match. Mathematically, he didn't win this fight.
@rossalexander2640 Жыл бұрын
You are 100% correct it's utterly insane that people think Fury lost the rds you stated, well done to Ngannou he definitely won rds 3 and 8 but no way on earth he won the contest

Times Ngannou scared Fury as a boxer: - Ngannou working in the clinch. An UPPERCUT and RIGHT HOOK ala Mike Tyson. Fury looked so surprised. - Ngannou having an actual jab - Ngannou working the body - Ngannou's defensive work - Ngannou's head movement. Dury looked shocked that he woykd evade away from his punches - Ngannou's Left Hook came from angling out of Fury's right hand reach. Left Hook is the front hand, his Right hand would have completely slept Fury.
