Francis Rossi admits he's not shed any tears for his Status Quo partner Rick Parfitt who died on Christmas Eve.
But in an exclusive interview with Sky News, Rossi defended himself against claims that he treated Parfitt unfairly in the final months of his life.

I've met Rossi many times when he is just a normal bloke, not a rockstar! ..this man is a great guy with a big heart who has given millions to charity and looks after people without making a song and dance about it. He worked with Rick for over half a century...nobody has the right to make him grieve in public! Who do these people think they are? Leave him be!!!

hear hear! people often think they have a right to see others respond in a way they think they would have or in a way that satisfies them. Lindy Chamberlain (in Australia) was tried by public opinion for not grieving publicly enough about the death of her baby - "she must have killed her then"

Great guy who gave millions to charity? That's exactly what they said about Jimmy Savile. NOT ONLY did Rossi just say that he wished Rick had died that day, he even said he wanted to attack those who saved him. That is a total shyster. I came onto this page a fan, I'm leaving a critic.

Rossi and Parfitt were great together. Two blokes working together for fifty years plus, are going to have a difference here and there. Just because someone refuses to join in the blubfest that has become UK journalism, that doesn't mean there is no respect and affection.

Exactly what I was thinking. For them to be performing together for half a century, there MUST have been (quite a lot of) love between them. And people react the way they do. I tear up over music, I tear up over movies, but I don't cry out of pain or grief. I saw them live once, in 2003, Arrow Classic Rock Festival, in Lichtenvoorde, Holland. Francis looked as if he wasn't even trying, but it sounded solid as a house. That day was the first time I heard the song "never say never", great song.

True Rossi is being honest about his feelings. Why should he act like he is in some Hollywood maudlin movie. I did not cry when my dad died, does not mean I did'nt care or love him, just not that great at crying in front of anyone. each person deals with grief in a different way.

Having lost my best mate to addiction - he was a complete stranger at the end, the great person I loved and respected had ‘died’ years before. I miss that person every day and mourn the man he was. When he died, I felt relief (and guilt) but overwhelmingly relief, he had finally laid his demons to rest. Francis articulated my grief far more eloquently than I ever could and put it into some perspective. Respect.

Francis has been playing with Rick since the '60s so obviously he feels gutted. Why should he display his inner feelings to the world if that's not his manner? As for how "real" Quo is now, Andy Bown has been in the band since '76 and has been an important part of the sound for over 40 years. Ryno has been in the band for over 30 years - longer than Lancaster. Line-ups change, in any band, and to have 3 members out of 5 that have been together so long, that's good going! Long live Quo!

Bowie fitted the mold the media likes, when I hear the news of such people dying I often wonder what they are talking about having lived through the time they became and were stars. Yes we listened to their music, but I never knew anyone who saw them the way "history" claims later. Parfitt was way to down to earth and "normal" for today's media to get excited about his demise.

My Memories of Quo? Mike Rossi suddenly becoming Francis overnight (see first album credits ). Quo performing 5 times at The 3,000 Croydon Greyhound Pub/Music Venue "paying their dues" after their "pop" 1960's era. In one Concert they did 5 Encores including a 7 Part Medley in one of them :) Performing with Slade at The Orchid, Purley, and 1/2 the audience there for each Band :) Seeing his 1-year-old Son in the cubicle next to mine crawling around. He later went to Public School :)

It’s refreshing to hear someone who doesn’t subscribe to the current trend of beating ones breast and wailing in public. Some of the displays that have been aired,of sobbing ,screeching mourners,of someone they’ve never met, adding yet another teddy bear to the steadily growing mountain of soft toys and flowers are verging on grotesque

The only tears i've ever shed was when i had to hold my 16 year old dog while it got put down. When the vet said she's gone i just broke down. When my mum died i never shed a single tear, i was very sad but it never made me cry. Btw i should of put the dog down maybe 3 months earlier but being human and selfish i waited a bit too long.

I remember my folks telling me this: Francis Rossi didn't shed a tear over the death of Rick Parfitt - but look, neither man was shy of the rock n roll lifestyle, and we have to remember that Status Quo was a huge concern, a massive business, and they must have had many many hangovers, comedowns, problems with drink, drugs, girls, business desicions, we can't possibly understand the whole situation. It's between them. It's a band that brought a lot of joy to a lot of people, and only they will understand the reality behind all that..

I saw Status Quo at Manchester Apollo last year and was shocked by how poorly attended the gig was; couldn't have been more then 500 to 600 people in all in a venue that holds 3500 which they normally sell-out. So it goes to show that the majority of the fans don't like it without Rick.....But on a side-note we only paid £2 each for our tickets from a site that sells tickets dirt cheap for poorly selling shows.

I was not a fan, but I went to one of their gigs and it was absolutely the best live show I ever saw. And the whole band had great charisma and great rapport with each other. Strange to hear of discord and down moments. But they grew that 60s band with a few "pop songs" into a genuinely great phenomenon. We are all curious to hear life histories. People love to expose cracks in veneers. But I prefer just to love them and their music. While its good it's still going out live - and being kept alive - I wonder if it will ever be the same as when they were at their peak together? IBut I also hope their music will be played and enjoyed a long way in the future - celebrated by new generations. I don't think it dates at all, certainly not in a live performance. It's just as good as it gets.

Rick Parfitt quit the band 2 months before his death, citing Rossi's cold callous demeanour towards him over many years. He was going to make an album with himself and Alan John and the harp player Bob Young.Lets not forget Rossi refused to play again in the re-formed Frantic Four after 2014 because the band reverted to a collective and he could not singularly be in charge
