Francisco Farreras and Asia | Japan and volume

When he travelled around Europe after his military service, Francisco Farreras (Barcelona, 1927) was impressed by the Asian art in the British Museum. His special empathy with the Japanese -because of the order and delicacy, the tension of using matter, his skill and enjoyment of folding-culminates in a warehouse in New York, where he discovers the possibilities of silk paper which, superimposed, increases its whiteness. He thus enters the world of collage, the main element of his body of work for the next fifteen years, until he follows the suggestion of volume in his own Barajas mural. Lately, his almost flat surfaces bring him even closer to Japan.
