Thank you Francis for your great work, these French Airplay Charts videos are always very interesting! Nice to see that Cock Robin were so successful in France, they are such an underrated band.

We’re seeing many of the songs in this video in French because the French government in 1986 introduced a quota system where radio stations in France had to play 40% of music in the French language. The law was also revised in 1994, 1996 and 2016.

On Earth there's a north pole, a south pole, and a pole of stupidity : the french government. Only country in the world to come up with something like that.

Did the video for "Voyage Voyage” by Desirelles appeared in late 1986 when the single was released in France or it came out later in 1987 when the song became popular in Europe?
@francispelletier3647 Жыл бұрын
In late 1986

I thought I'd stumble on this and it's an interesting chart to see what French radios were playing. Interesting mix of French pop songs here - interesting how some of the more Anglophone songs had semi attention on French radios, but not hits here in the UK. Was this all radio stations (state and commercial) or just a handful of the big players? Lili and Susie tried for Sweden a couple of times in their Eurovision heats. 'Oh Mama' is a great song of theirs. Did Marie Myriam (last French Eurovision winner to date) have much of a career? France Gall had some excellent songs. So sad she died a few years ago. 'City Lights' is one of my favourite songs of 1987 and an excellent slice of Italo dance. Madge was unstoppable and on fire then. 'Joe le taxi' a great song. 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody' gets me on the dancefloor lol. Don't go to many parties now lol. 'Carrie' is a beautiful rock ballad. I prefer that to 'The Final Countdown'. I love Samantha Fox's songs. 'I Surrender' is my favourite song of hers. Also one of my favourite Michael Jackson songs 'I Just Can't Stop Loving You'. The 'Bad' album is amazing. I'd have liked 'Bambeleo' to have represented Spain in Eurovision. 'Bethoven' I find interesting and exprimental. Excellent video once again Francis 👍 Interesting to see what was popular across the channel that year.

Non aucune carrière pour Marie Myriam. On la voit uniquement pendant l'Eurovision.

@@francispelletier3647 Thank you Francis! Quite a list of stations then! Also a lot of reading there that's worth a check out 👍 We have something similar here called the Big Top 40 which is Apple Music, iTunes and Global Radio airplay (most commercial UK radio stations are franchises now sadly, not regional (bar news). It used to be the Network chart up until the 00s.
