Most of these didn't reach particularly high positions in the December 1981 charts, but I assume that's because most of the ones that did entered the chart in November (or earlier).

Merry Christmas Francis. Hope you had a wonderful day. Thank you for an excellent video. A very memorable list of songs here and a strong line up (apart from Gary Glitter). Dorothy's entry is the theme to 'Blind Date' hosted by the late Cilla Black. Corona...you became a star...in 2020 😂 My favourites are the beautiful environmentalist ballad from Michael Jackson. I remember my sister copying the bit with the dirt in the garden 😂😂 An underrated Christmas tune from Queen, the excellent 60s cover of 'Wonderwall' by Mike Flowers Pops. Mary J's excellent cover. Brilliant underrated comeback from The Beatles. The wonderful Luther / Janet duet and Prince's excellent 'Gold'. Throw in the beautiful Mariah / Boys II Men Duet.

2 releases for Morrissey within the same month. I've learnt that with "Sunny" it was a previous label trying to cash in on the release of his Southpaw Grammar album by releasing a standalone single. Love "Free As A Bird" by The Beatles, I think that should have been No.1, but funnily enough it was held off by the very artist who owned the publishing rights to the Beatles songs. That's a different version of Tosh by Fluke, the best version I heard was the remix known as the Dosh remix (was it Curtis Mantronik who mixed that?) that I heard on "The Best...Album...In The World...Ever!" comp that year.

Joyeux Noël, Francis. Tous mes vœux. This chart reminds me of my first Christmas in a new house, getting satellite television for the first time and watching hour after hour of MTV Europe... Much to the annoyance of my parents. Good times.

- In subsequent 1996 re-releases, Faithless's Insomnia would reach #3 and Backstreet Boys' hit #8. - Just The One was the last of four Levellers' singles to peak at #12. (Only their debut EP did better, hitting #11).

Faithless "Insomnia" The Peak was #3 not #27

It rereleased in 1996 and peaked at 3, so counts as a separate chart entry

Speaking of Faithless, it's been two years since the passing of Faithless front man Maxi Jazz. (Between that and the prolonged absence of Wakamé's boyfriend Horikawa-kun in _Sazae-san,_ it seemed I may as well have been on the naughty list that year.)
@patrickschlosser82082 күн бұрын
@@robertanthonyfairweather3416 I didn't know that Maxi Jazz had died. Thanks for the tip. I listened to Faithless when I was 25. These days I listen to other stuff and am out of touch with what's happening in the music world. Merry Christmas to you.

Thank you Francis for an interesting video on the Dutch and Swedish top 20s in 1982. 👍 Excellent to see charts of other countries. Risque didn't sing on their songs (I knew this from a Dutch bf I had). Chattanooga would have been top 5 for Sweden in Eurovision 1982. Lisa Öhman would have done top 10 too. Chips' song rips off 'Waterloo'. They made the wrong choice. Glad 'I Love Rock n Roll' was #1 in both of those countries. That Doris D and the Pins song is a guilty pleasure 😂 June Lodge had an interesting career later on. Her voice (talking and singing) was used (and still is) for children's education tapes in her native Jamaica! The difference I have noticed is, Sweden quite with the times in their charts where with the Netherlands has a few 'schlager' influenced songs...although kudos for reggae in theirs but will take the chance with an out there #1 like the excellent 'Private Investigations'. I love 'Do You Really Want To Hurt Me'. Glad both countries appreciated ABBAs underrated gem 'The Day Before You Come'. Such a dark and touching song.

Only a couple of Italian songs if I didn't see wrong. Both by Albano and Romina Power. Then there is a cover (Perikles) of the song "Sarà perché ti amo" that I had never listened to. In Italy I counted about 80 songs that reached the Top 20. Among the most successful I don't see "Paradise" by Phoebe Cates which reached first place in Italy (which I knew had been successful only in Italy) and one of the very first Italo-Disco songs to be successful, that is "Masterpiece" by Gazebo.

Big radio fan in the 80s, and I have no recollection of the song at #159. Wikipedia shows that it never charted - are you sure that's the correct song?
@francispelletier36476 күн бұрын
Indeed you're right. The real song at #159 is "Serious" by Deborah Allen, not "Telepathy" as I put on this video. Thanks for the information ;)
