I agree. I like Pahud, but you cannot compare these two guys. PB is a different level of a Musician, not a Flutist.

Terrific performance! But what do you mean by "even"? There's a reason this Ballade is part of the modern flute repertoire: it packs musical ideas of real weight and substance into a very concise form. All the more remarkable as this was written as a competition piece for flutists. Martin's very individual, highly chromatic mature idiom may not appeal to all tastes, but that's no reason for glib putdowns. Frank Martin happens to be one of my favorite 20th century composers. (Incidentally, Martin's wife Maria was a professionally trained flutist.)
