Francois Steyn is a bit of an enigma. With all his talent, we cannot understand why he hasn't regularly featured for the Springboks or why he hasn't played 100 tests yet. He is a superbly gifted player who can add value in any position in the back line and he has a prodigious boot on him.
We are huge fans of Frans and we hope you enjoy this video!

@@jordywilliams You do realize that Willie had a nerve damage done to him in the quarter final? he played the quarter final, semi final, and final with 10% feeling and 70% range of motion in his left arm. Thats why he made mistakes. Plus you can't start Steyn since he's the Utility back.

When he came on the scene, he had everything a back needed, and much more. Probably most naturally talented player coming from south africa in my opinion. Ran good lines, could step, had a good pass, defense was extremely solid, was powerful, solid under high ball, could drop from 60+ Mts. Could kick long n short range penalties, and he had good speed and versatile as most. And something most players didn't have, which he did even as a 19yr old, confidence and bmt.

Even though he barely played in RWC2019, his versatility in covering any backline position has allowed Erasmus to have 6 forwards rather than 5 on the bench. Thanks to this, SA have destroyed opponent sides in 2nd half and won the RWC.

I always watch the game live with the SA commentary and subsequently watch the game again with the opposing team's commentary (thanks to KZbin). When Frans Steyn kicked that monster penalty, the Welsh commentators said that he has been doing it for 12 years, Except that he has been doing that for a lot longer than that, considering that he was in the World Cup winning Springbok team in 2007 (14 years ago) and did similar feats for his province before that. In anyone's books he should have racked up 150 test by now. Except that he is his own man, who does his own thing. He plays the moment and is not a stickler to a pattern. That is why so many previous coaches did not choose him.

He was at the 2011 rwc maybe the 2015 one not to sure, coaches also have to take in consideration talent, they don't want to overuse a player and then he gets injured. But yeah he is certainly something special, he gave prince harry a beer at 2019 rwc lol yster

I know I didn't have to do this but I feel I have to for the sake of those horrible subtitles. Here's what was reall said all the time: Francois: I was fat and small, and the people used to bully me, and that's how I grew up. At a point I became hyperactive probably, then became skinny and ended up playing Flyhalf. Reporter in English. Francois: Standard 6 (Grade 8) I went to Grey's in Bloem (Grey's - School & Bloemfontein - City), it was a very good school to me. I still believe it was the best school I could have attended. They looked at me and helped me out in time, yeah, and I played Rugby for the Under 14's and developed myself in the ranks. Coach De Bruyn: Frans (Francois) is very mature, you can have a conversation with him, you'll notice when you talk to him that he's mature, that way I believed he was ready for anything like this, he was completely ready. If he wasn't the top player then he was at least in the Top 3. He's outstanding, he's passed are phenomenal and when he kicks he kicks a mile away. Francois' Father: You know, he began as a Hooker (Not the stripper kind😂), then Under 13's Craven Week, a player had dropped him on his head, so badly he had to spend 3 days in intensive care. It was a pitfall and he thought he'd never play again, and when he came through, he said there's nothing he wants to do but play Rugby. From there, through all his injuries and all the problems off and on the field, he took it head on and that's why he's here today. Reporter: As a Flyhalf, you make your debut with the Springboks as a Winger, what do you expect in the game? Francois: Sir I really don't know, we'll see, uhm, I don't know, I'm looking forward to it, it's like Jake said, "No one knows what to expect Saturday", we'll just see what happens Saturday. 👍😎👌

Needs to learn to pass more though. My biggest issue with Steyn (and de Allende) is that they hog the ball and play crash rugby. They completely stuff up any running threat that our backline might offer. My favorite center pairing in the last 5 years was Serfontein at 12 and Kreil 13.

The Springboks can't afford to let players such as Francois Steyn, Marcel Coetzee, Combrinck, Habana, Duane Vermeulen (etc) fall off the radar. These are world class players, many of which have abilities unique only to them (as is the case with Steyn's kicking abilities). These guys aren't finished yet, and need to be included in the Bo squad, at all costs.

That's what happens when a stupid coach can't recognize nor manage talent. Steyn has been the most poorly treated bok in the game. Good to see him in the winning 2019 squad! well done Francois!
