Another lovely video Mark, Like you said the beauty of rivers is you never know whats taken your bait . As they say variety is the spice of life and that was an amazing river carp, there is something different about them to lake carp. Iv`e only had a few from the river but they just seem more in proportion and fresher looking and more hairy when you do hook them on lighter gear. Keep well Mark, regards Peter.

That's exactly it Pete, it's almost like a lucky dip with rivers, they're also ever changing, I don't think we ever set foot on the same venue and it's the same venue twice over, especially with the way nature changes the water courses, be that floods or otherwise, there's a pulse to a river like a vein it carries life.

@@markerd5378 I know what you mean Mark, its the same river the same spot but compleatly different summer to winter. It always keeps the grey matter working trying to understand the rivers secrets. I often take photos of swims in the summer and retake them in the winter and its fascinating to look at what winter or a flood does. Thats why we love our rivers. Peter

great to have a litle glims off summer here in the dark and cold time . only had 3 trips with the wife for pike and perch this winter. i realy wish spring would come soon so we can start the season with tench and bream and then the carp when it gets hotter :)

Cracking session and fish, Mark 👌👏🎣🐟 It’s always good (as far as I’m concerned) to show what’s possible with balanced and relatively light gear. A 1.25 TC rod and no problems subduing that awesome common in a tight spot 👍 I get the rationale in some cases but don’t follow recent TC trends where barbel supposedly demand 2+ and carp rods now start at 3+. Cheers
@markerd53782 күн бұрын
Thank you and I could not agree more John and I much prefer a nice through action rather than a broom stick type of rod.

Out of interest, what do you use for your air pressure info - forecasts, an app or an actual barometer? Or maybe all of the above 😄
@francolinobascoКүн бұрын
John I use both an app and a weather station , my weather station gives me the usual info such as humidity, air pressure trends etc. There's a couple of fairly accurate barometric apps on the Google play store. Thing is regarding air pressure as we both know, many times you simply cannot cherry pick when you can go fishing, so at times we go regardless of what the air pressure says and just a case of sucking and seeing, but I do like to keep an eye on the trends whenever possible.

They sure do know how to scrap Lee and I agree with the Bream they do dissappear on some rivers in winter and become very specific with where they can be found.

Another great video mark, cracking session, beautifully conditioned carp and lovely sized bream,shame about the otter damage(there a bloody menace),i agree with you there is to much hatred against bream which seems to be mainly from the bivvy brigade. It's a toss up between carp and barbel as to the hardest fighting fish? When did you film that video mark, the vegetation seemed to be very green and lush? Keep up the good work brother looking forward to the next one. Best wishes mate. 11:56
@markerd5378Күн бұрын
Cheers Richard! Allas I guess we could say otters wouldn't be so pivotal or as polarising if our rivers were in good condition with higher fish stocks too. I guess that's another perspective to look at it from as well. Glad you enjoyed the video, it was filmed in August around the 12th.
@tadhghayden76012 күн бұрын
The bream are the harbingers.. Nice scales on that chunky carp.. Holding it tight in the area. U lost a big carp on that swim before I think. Big ball of goodness for the crayfish population..
@markerd53782 күн бұрын
Cheers Hayden and yes I was very happy with both fish the carp was in good condition. No I haven't lost a carp in this swim before, a similar looking swim maybe? but not this one. The crayfish will always be taking their taxes from an anglers bait allas 😩😂

I know it depends on the circumstances and what species you're likely to encounter etc but what lb test mainline do you prefer for this small river all round kind of fishing, 8lb?
@markerd53782 күн бұрын
It does vary a bit to be fair and I would say for link ledgering, light feeder work for decent chub on smaller rivers I rarely go below a good quality 6lb mono these days. when barbel fishing minimum 10lb mono although with the snags and size of barbel on some of my rivers I will also happily and regularly use 12. For all round species ledgering on a river if not for one particular species 8lb main line is not a bad shout. For my general trotting I tend to use 4lb mainline. I know that isn't exactly the one overall answer. But hope it is of some help.
@Beesa102 күн бұрын
@@markerd5378 Thanks mate, yes, same here. For pike I used to use 15lb or 18lb mono (my carp line) but in recent years switched to 0.4mm heavy braid. I enjoy the all round approach for river fishing, light ledger or small feeder tactics with 8lb mainline, have caught lots of chub/ bream and sizeable carp too with the likes of simple mashed bread and particles. Cheers!
