I've liked Auerbach's work since I was a young man in my twenties, skeptical of painting school and art school and that sort of thing which I never participated in, painting and drawing every day nonetheless since I was about fifteen (now I'm forty); and I still admire Auerbach though I don't care much for the results of his ....explorations in plastic art...I admire the seriousness with which he pursues (or pursued, is he alive or dead?) painting. The real painter doesn't really give a damn one way or the other what other people are doing, though occasionally he emerges to say hello to his friends

at 87, he's still very much alive, and continues to work every day.

@cyreelluvzanime He is a fascinating artist, and he does landscapes too, just not as much as he does paintings of people. I also think he is a very difficult for the beginner, or almost anyone for that matter. I studied him a lot at first, but now I think it would have been better if I studied more such as Lucian Freud, who I am studying more now. I am a fan of some of these British artists such as Frank Auerbach and Leon Kossoff two of my favorites, also Freud though he paints more realisticall

Cannot find this DVD in region 1 format for U.S. Not available on Amazon.com, only on Amazon UK in Region 2 format. Cannot find it in any library collection either. Anyone know where I can find it? (Although based on some of the ignorant and crude comments posted here, I hesitate to ask.)

Incoherent? Very articulate would be more accurate.

Quite articulate about incoherence, chaos, and talent.Just unfettered marks within the laws of the universe. Signs of madness and cliches, all tainted by the horrors of war. To be fair this is my first encounter with this artist. Not the kind of artistic interface I am keen on right now.

I think Leon Kossoff is very underrated by comparison. He didn't have Auerbach's anger and aggression.

Unless they can paint like Turner or Rembrandt they're all fucking overrated in my opinion

@@nickfanzo sure Ive met some people who adores his work, Ive tried and even bought his monograph, I sense he’s got something but his work seems too coarse to the kind of recognition he has.
