This is one of Frank Bridge's best work. I could listen to it over and over.

In my ignorance, I previously thought only Debussy had painted the sea and then I heard this wonderful piece of bliss and I was corrected! :) Frank Bridge paints all of the tenderness, mystery and violence of the sea so well! It makes me cry at the end!

One of the most under-rated composers out there. This piece has wonderful melodies, dynamics and arrangement.

I’ve known and loved this piece for years. Gotten to play some Bridge, too. He’s one of England’s greatest. Something about the sea brought out the best in composers. I also recommend Henry Hadley’s time poem “The Ocean”.

I really had never heard of this piece and hadn't thought of Bridge in years. Then they played the Moonlight section on the radio this evening. Beautiful!

A very underrated composer. I do wish his music was programmed more in the concert hall.

Would be nice to mention the orchestra in the above description for, without them, it would just be a man silently waving his hands around. The BBC National Orchestra of Wales - fabulous !

Stunning work ! The brilliant orchestration at times reminds me of the light, "fairy" scherzo style, pioneered by Berlioz and Mendelssohn. Possibly my new favorite "sea piece."

"The Sea" is beautiful and the orchestrations and some of the chording reminds me of Im Abendrot from Strauss 4 last songs. That is to my untrained cloth ears. !!

Frank Bridge was Benjamin Britten's teacher if I recall. And this was the prelude to the 4 sea interludes.

Along with Debussy's La Mer the most fantastic seascape ever composed. Except this is not like an exquisite painting. This is more a hymn and requiem to everybody who ever went to sea. If this doesn't move you check your pulse: you are probably dead.

Was at sea on both a naval surface and subsurface vessels and each time I grew to respect the sea; its power; its beauty; its tranquility and its ability to transform the human psyche. You haven't lived until you have spent significant time at sea. Bridge captured the sea beautifully in 22 minutes, but I dare say he barely scratched the surface.
