I never understood the hate Frank got as a character (aside from him kind of being shoehorned in as Bobby's replacement in the grizzled veteran mentor role in the second half of season 7). The actor is fantastic and his scenes with Dean in particular were fun to watch.

A lot of people don't want to believe what he says. "Make yourself smile because you're alive and that's your job". Some people can't handle that simplification but really, happiness is a choice. Or they saw him as a "replacement" for Bobby and of course, he could never be that, so it annoyed them with their own presumption. It can be a depressing show too, and Frank? Everything about him mirrors that depression, which is too much for some people. This kind of bitter humor is way too much reality for them. I love him, he's probably the most poignant side character in the entire show and his abrupt outtro - even more poignant. I like to think he actually might not be dead - but he's so "gone" he'll never talk to the Winchester's again... that or something "else" got Frank, and god knows where he is. You don't get to know somebody like that for very long until YOU'RE the one he's cutting and running from. Sometimes you meet very vibrant people for just a little while, then poof, they're gone. Also people see paranoia and think "bad person" for some reason... when really... Frank's not living in a world where paranoia isn't warranted.

I've probably been coming back to this clip since the day after this episode aired, yet I am still floored by this scene. The back and forth between Dean and Frank is stellar, but that's both expected and easy to see. There's one point that consistently gives me chills, however, and that's the way that Frank's eyes just seem to go dead from 2:00 onward after he decides to drop any pretense of normalcy to give Dean the advice that he needs to keep himself in the fight. Up until this point, as far as I can remember, Frank has maintained at least some small semblance of being normal (even if normal to him is a crazy survivalist Hunter) around Dean, and it all drops when he begins to openly talk about the worst day of his life in order to guide a man who may be something close to an actual friend away from the very obvious self-destruction he's charging into. This show did a lot of things that were questionable or just plain ridiculous, but moments like this keep reminding me why I'll never stop loving it.

Supernatural has its ups and downs and this is one of the Worst seasons but this scene alone Franks advice I would take with me till this day. Supernatural gave me lots of life lessons.

I liked this season, it's not my favorite but I'd never skip it when watching the entire series again and again and again and again 20 more times. There are definitely episodes I don't like every season and it's barely a handful since most are amazing in my eyes, and there have been finales I don't like, but I never have seen an entire season has bad or even label anything as worst when it comes to Supernatural. I've watched most tv series and this is the only one that I've never had any negative feelings towards.

I really liked this guy Frank and I hated how they removed him from the show that quickly!his relationship with Dean was amusing!they couldn't get along obviously in first days but when he started to advice Dean,especially during this scene,I could literally saw the potential of turning into Bobby number 2!I think that's why he didn't get that much love!but I liked him!he was starting to be like Dean's comfort and considering all the crap happened after S7,he could be really a good advicer or comforter when Dean needed!but No!Bobby shouldn't have replacement!I'm not saying he should!but just because of loving one character,other characters really don't need to fill the emptiness without him?Frank couldn't take Bobby's place but he could at least make the feeling of his absence less painful!

lol, 36 hours. Frank didn't have good perception of time. It's a shame he didn't do what he thought he ought to do, and just moved to Norway until the Leviathans were dealt with by Sam and Dean. Instead he was killed off screen in a horrible way and became Leviathan poop.

While the advice seems solid from Frank's point of view, this is not really Dean's way. He cares too much and plays it off more than he can count. Advices are not made for everyone, this type of advice is not actually a blueprint in my honest opinion. I also think that this advice / lifestyle broke Frank even more than he actually realizes, Dean (on other hand) has his own way in dealing with things and he did it his whole life. I think Frank couldn't deal with Dean's way of dealing with things and Dean couldn't probably handle Frank's way properly. I guess it comes down what hurts the least...

He just stews in it and the self-loathing and drinks until it makes him do severe judgment calls that really aren't his business like how he dealt with Sam's kitsune friend. If he was gonna distrust her he should've also killed the kid hell-bent on revenge. That's a serious time bomb. I think Frank's advice is good for Dean. He's always telling Sam not to be a bitch but he needs to try that too.
