I'm a Chelsea fan, but also a football fan in general. I totally get what you're saying. On paper it's actually a fairly decent season when you consider everything. But it's hard to put across to someone who doesn't watch Chelsea almost every week just how frustrating things were last season. We started the season brilliantly, when Sarri's tactics were still new and the tactics hadn't been figured out. But as soon as they were, there was zero adaption on his part. It meant that every single match was terrible to watch for about 3/4 of the season. The only game where we looked decent from about October onwards was the second half against Arsenal in the Europa League. We made every single match look difficult. Hazard dragged us kicking and screaming through so many games where based on performance we had no right get a point. It wasn't about where we finished or the silverware at the end of the season. It was about the fact that it didn't work as a brand of entertainment. Honestly mate, every win the feeling was "thank god that's over". It was so hard to watch all season long. It picked up towards the end of the season and it seemingly clicked in the Europa League final, but it was such hard work to get there. Defensive coaches like Jose, Conte etc who we've seen be successful where other people didn't like to watch us, there was a different sense of everything to the fans. It was about digging in deep, siege mentality, and there was pleasure in overcoming the critics. Last season was supposed to be free-flowing attacking football. But it was the opposite. It was disjointed and ugly. That's why Chelsea fans grew so frustrated with the manager.

Sarri implemented a completely new style of playing, of cause with ups and downs, but the end results were beyond what most had hoped for before the season started. 3rd place finish (there was no way we were really competing with City and Liverpool for top spot), Europa League win, loosing the Carabau Cup on penalties to City... still "Sarri was such a bad manager". Great choice for Chelsea! I’m a Liverpool fan, but I’ve respected Frank Lampard even since his Hammer days. The main thing is Frank Lampard is just an all round ‘good chap’, and really that still means a hell of a lot, and goes a long way, especially in the dressing room. With the squad he has, I’ll bet that Frank Lampard will make top six easily, and actually top four is within his grasp. I'm an Everton fan so I don't have any skin in the game on this issue but i have to say that i like Lampard, he's a very intelligent and articulate man, has a good moral character and is a decent human being, and he LOVES Chelsea. There will be no doubting his heart or desire. Chelsea had lost its soul, it had become a running joke with the revolving door policy of managers and its ridiculous loan policies, whilst seemingly having no long term plans or vision. I can understand the excitement from Chelsea fans but there's far too much emotion and not enough logic with this appointment. Lampard, who has had one full season (which was good but not exceptional by any means) will have to go up against Klopp, Guardiola, Pochettino, Emery and Santo who have a vast amount of experience. How will be able to deal with a poor run in form that will probably happen? What about the personalities in the dressing room if things go pear shaped? If they went against a significantly more experienced manager in Sarri then what about a manager who hasn't won anything in Lampard? I'll be completely surprised if this turns out with some of success in all honesty

Couldn’t disagree more about Bad CV against no CV. You learn a lot more from a bad experience than no experience. I think Rory’s Chelsea goggles are a little too strong. Say what you want about Solskjaer, but he walked into united and had an immediate impact. There are managers with much bigger reputations and far more experience who have gone there and failed to make the impact that Solskjaer has. Yes, united’s season petered out, that wasn’t his fault, that was down to a very low standard of professionalism amongst the players. They were a disgrace. I think Frank Lampard will succeed given time, however Chelsea’s record is woeful in that regard. Hopefully he’ll get the chance he deserves. Points of view from a neutral!

Chelsea FC has a ban on players transfers for two seasons imposed by UEFA for breaching FFP which means any manager coming in has to work with the squad there is and not those he wants. It’s a common fact that CFC now has to rely on pulling back players it had on loan to buff up thief squad. Why would any manager worth his salt stagnant his own career by taking up a seat warming position in CFC for the errors of club and now without ambition. It’s that why EH left for RM.

Every team has to go through bad times, Utd and arsenal are there right now, city is all bought and even with the money wasn’t great at points, Liverpool had Hodgson at one point, and spurs haven’t won a league since the 60s. this clown says ole's cardiffs worst manager ever, sure stats dont lie but... the team was already dead and down when he took over and it was probably a great experience for ole to be in that position and to learn from it. Ole basically built molde from the ground up with everything in the image of united, Ole won the league with molde with a team of kids that shocked everyone and then in the eufa cup had some solid group stage runs knocking out big teams. Slates Ole but in the end ole's won a league as a complete underdog, won cups and overachieved in europe. whats lampard done as a manager besides doing the same thing numerous managers before him have done by losing in the playoffs ?
