_Frank Marino And Mahogany Rush Live_ is an essential listen.

I've known Frank for a little while now, and he is ABSOLUTELY one of the NICEST HUMAN BEINGS you'll EVER meet. He said the reason he used solid state amps live, is because he had more control. All the sounds you hear him playing, he created. All the foot pedals, sound effects, etc. So the philosophy is for it to be clear but powerful on stage but Get the sound he wanted and let the P A System do the work. He's a Very clear headed and cerebral individual and you'd be Amazed how well he knows the Bible. GREAT GUY!

Thank you for your comment!! Great to hear he is doing well. The guy was such a great guitar player. I enjoyed his music and shows very much growing up. If you talk to him again tell him thanks for all the great music and guitar playing and he still has fans. Myself included! Appreciate you watching the video.

I got to see Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush in Seattle 1975. They opened for Montrose and Black Sabbath. Frank Marino came out and stole the show. I understood back then, even though I was only 15, why he was compared to Hendrix. He played The Star Spangled Banner. He played the guitar with his teeth and behind his head. We went to a TON of concerts in Seattle in the '70s and '80s at many different venues. This particular concert was my all-time favorite and most memorable. I'd never heard of Mahogany Rush or Frank Marino prior to the concert. Afterward, I ran out and bought Strange Universe and have been a huge fan ever since.

I saw Mahogany Rush in the mid 70's in Louisville, KY at The Garden. Paid less than $2 for the ticket and sat 3 rows back right in front of Frank. By the way, that tour became their live album!

If you’re interested… the album “Mahogany Rush 4” will change your life. More recently, Frank Marino live at the Agora theatre is a true testament to this man’s talents. His vocals are equally as stellar & one of a kind. Thanks for the presentation, well done

Great video, thanks for posting. I missed Mahogany Rush when they came to Detroit the late 70s. I regret not being able to see him, he was a staple of my music in my teens. I play drums for a living and while I was making the four hour drive home from a show this last Saturday I revisited his music. It’s been years since I last listened to it. I’m still awestruck. I’m very glad to hear he’s still” alive and, I hope, enjoying life. Thanks again.

THE most epic live arena rock guitarist of all time. After seeing Frank live, you just had to go take a nap for about a week. It's inevitable that mainstream success eluded Frank; his playing was just too intense, too powerful, too in your face to appeal to the majority of people who just want background music or "pop" ear candy that doesn't force them to get involved with the music. His studio stuff was magic of a different kind. Lots of jazz/blues/Psychedelic rock fusion with some very cool Arabic influences (the quarter tone Arabic scales he used on many tracks added an exotic sound that you noticed but couldn't quite identify) were a hallmark of the Mahogany Rush sound, and a testament to Frank's astonishing virtuosity. Thanks for the vid. Anything that brings Frank to a wider audience is nice to see.

I saw Frank in the summer of 1979 opening for Kansas. He was great. Unfortunately that was the only time that I saw him. I believe that the band played All Along The Watchtower.

A buddy and I went to see him when we were high school in 1980 at the Long Beach Arena in California, and it was the loudest concert I have ever been to, hands down. There was a kid and his parents seated next to us, a kid who looked like he had some issues with drugs and alcohol, perhaps, and his parents were there to be supportive and keep him out of trouble. 30 seconds in, they were furiously stuffing Kleenex in their ears with a horrified look on their faces. To their credit, they made it through the entire concert. Our ears rang for a week afterwards, and I'll never forget the look on the parent's faces.

Saw him at the Warner Theater in DC for $1.01 for a DC101 radio promotion in 1978. He had a wall of Acoustic amps, and a daisy chain of 9 effect pedals. Big sound! Great show. The bass player could play and dance shuffle like James Brown. As I hit my mid 60s, I know about the frozen shoulder and trying to play guitar issue too.

A friend went to see Mahogany Rush...this was in Chicago....after the show Frank went in the bar...and my friend and frank shot a few games of pool... My only album was "Child of the Novelty" and the live album...awesome guitar player. A band I roadied for...played Franks song "Dragon Fly".

I seen him in '78 or '79 at Comiskey Park for their second year of Summer Jam. Their were I believe 5 or 6 bands and I forget which ones went together because I was at both of them! But I do remember that Frank Marino had a cast on his right hand and after a little while he went backstage and had them take it off because he said that it was limiting him too much! I read that in a paper review the next day.

I've long been a Hendrix fan and I too saw Frank Marino in 1977 as an impressionable 15 year old. Both utterly amazing but they don't sound the same. I don't know why no nothing people don't have anything better to do than make lame comparisons. It's a big world of amazing talent out there to experience.

Lyrics.... Well you… You think I’m crazy, but that’s not true Well it’s just that I’ve been To a million hells to pay for my sins Well hey! What I’m sayin’… Is you better be right when you speak of my plight Or I’ll be comin’ to take you back down with me To the Land of a Thousand Nights! If I’m just insane Then treat me lightly and don’t complain And if I seem uptight And if it seems that my soul is black as night… But if you’re wrong, you better be strong, yeah, ’cause I’ll be comin’ after you to take you back down To the Land of a Thousand Nights Cold, so cold I can’t pretend… The man in the outfield, with the bonnet head… Crystal clear auntie viola, wet blacknose Saint Bernard dog, And there is Alpha-Omega, clearly put water on his tarnished tongue… Crying moons, can you dig the sheep goddess? She’s feeling red feathers from a salvation army cup… And did you think I wasn’t going to blacken his room? For surely a thousand nights couldn’t help but be Draining his soul away… Say then; “Sholyo Im Fi Zhamy - Sholyo Im Fi Zhay…” www.mahoganyrush.com/discography/strange-universe/
