How much more credit does he deserve? He is frequently spoken about as a great player. He has had hundreds of guitar magazine articles written about him. He has even been featured in the cover of the top guitar magazines. Almost every guitar player over the age of 40 has heard him. He sells out the venues he plays, and has sold a lot of records. His contribution to the world of guitar playing (as far as influencing the playing of the instrument) is not on the level of Jimi Hendrix or Eddie Van Halen or some of the other greats. Sure, he has influenced many players, but not the tens of millions that Jimi or EVH or even Yngwie Malmsteen has. Frank has gotten plenty of credit as a great rock guitar player. I love Marino’s playing and his songs, as do many others. What more can you ask for?

Adjust remember that Ted Nugent came before all of those guys and back in 1965 when Ted was playing clubs with the Amboy dukes he was pioneering the use of feedback another guitar tricks that people like Eddie Van Halen would copy later. I am wondering who used feedback first. Eric Clapton or Ted Nugent. It might be a close tie . 😁

@@theguitartemplepriest well there are some guys that get heavily associated with Hendrix only because they are doing Hendrix songs like Stevie Ray Vaughan and Frank Marino and some others. But other guys like Robin trower sound like Hendrix but since they are not doing any Hendrix songs they are far removed from that same association. If you take a fender Stratocaster and plug it through a marshall stack and start playing b.b. King in Freddie King runs through tons of pedals you are naturally going to sound like Hendrix without even trying. Right away you will have an association to Hendricks just for the sound you're getting but if you start doing lots of Hendrix songs then you have to start explaining that to the critics because they will jump all over you. I love when Franco's Hendrix songs and I don't consider him a Hendrix rip-off if he does. To me it's just tribute. But the critics and many fans will think otherwise. And unfortunately that could hurt the poor guys career .

He told me his favorite guitar players are Robby Krieger and John cipollina and Peter Green. He told me the first time he heard Jimi Hendrix that he did not get into him right away and it was a little later that he finally realized how great Hendrix was and was inspired by him. I mean when this man launches into a jam I would not want to stand next to him and want to have to go at it with him because he is a master gunslinger. I would put him up against anybody except for maybe Jimi Hendrix or Jimmy Page. Frank Marino was one of the early greats and I would say he flew below the radar for many people. Many years ago I saw him play here in Toronto with his brother Vince Marino playing second guitar. The show was simply jaw dropping. Frank never really got the recognition that he well deserved and that saddens me deeply. Had he been in the USA from day one things would have likely been different. Like many great Canadian artists, staying in Canada likely hampered his career.

He does enough of his own original material to not be a Hendrix clone . Maybe he should have stayed away from Jimi Hendrix songs. But he loves Hendrix and he can't help himself. Robin trower played it safe I never covering a Hendrix song so he could never be associated with Hendrix the way that Marino was. But Frank could out gun sling anybody on stage and I would put money on it . Plus he looks so freaking cool and all his leather . And he also had a nice mustache to boot . There was this rumor in 73, 73 and it was about a feedback contest and this guy beat ted Nugent. Well, Ted used to just play and was great so, I was like yeah, right. Who? Frank Marino. Then I started hearing his name and Hendrix this and that. In early 75 I bought Child of the Novelty and yeah, he was great. I missed him that year but caught him in 83 at the Park West in Chicago, (My favorite venue) and he was phenomenal. I saw Frank 5 more times. In 1980-84 It was Him, Michael Schenker, Uli Roth, Blackmore mainly as the tops in my book though I saw many others. One of the greatest if not the greatest period for hard rock guitarists who took it too the limit without being silly speed freaks. Get well Frank. Windrose

@@chriskroll4166 I don't know if Frank ever recorded an album with Bugdie but I DEFINITELY saw a video of Frank playing live in a TV studio with Budgie.
