Great video. Frank really knows how to break it down for the newbies. Not only does he teach you the technique and how it works, but he teaches you why it works, and explains how (if given the right reaction) it disrupts their balance (kuzushi), or (other reaction) allows you to get the knee inside.

Frank Mir is one of the greatest submission specialists to ever grace the octagon. Period. I wish I could train with him. For a heavy weight he is top tier . TAP OR SNAP!!

I love Frank Mirs tecniques because he is a huge strong guy but he still keeps to the Ju-Jitsu principles of leverage over strength.

This video is viral just for a few hours and yet so many unnecessary comments... Anyway, this sweep is awesome. Because of videos like this I'm thinking more and more about switching grappling with jiu jitsu. I think i will get best of both worlds because then I can compete in both. Only thing I dont like about jj is that clinch when you grab someone by the collar or the sleeve...

@bamboocha923 Its you tube my friend. Many people will miss the point of what he is trying to show or make back handed comments about him vs Brock. I talked with him and he was very humble about it. Frank's words" As a fighter, you lose and go back to try and fill those holes. Its life and my goal is to get better. That's the fighting game son."

If you are on bottom in that position you can usually move your leg enough to trap their ankle so they can't pull their leg out even if they wanted to and most people freak when they can't move a certain way so they will put themselves I a bad spot trying to get away from you making it very simple to sweep them. But if they keep their head tucked so that you can't use it as a lever stick you thumb in their arm pit and push. They will move away from the pain and into your sweep.THANKS for posting!!

@yungbergluvr . He may have been able to use this to escape, but it's not bulletproof. When Frank fought Lesnar (second time) his left arm was inside Lesnar's right (because Lesnar held it there via the half nelson). Also, Frank was not flat on his back the entire time. He was almost kinda tilted onto his left side, because of the half nelson. It almost looked like Frank was trying to shrimp out, but he was shrimping the wrong way, which was to his right (and he had trapped Lesnar's right leg.)

Did you watch the video? Frank said it would be pretty damn rare for the sweep to actually work. More about getting space to do something else.

I'm glad I watched this, I have been having some problems on the bottom, guys hugging tight. Fighting off my stomp by driving there knee into my mid section. I started using the old stomp and it helped, but when you get sweaty dudes you can't hold the leg unless you wear pants.

I don't care if he did lose to Brock. He has a wealth of knowledge that I would kill just to possess. If there is one thing that I have learned in my life, I learned that when wisdom speaks I listen.

@Shadow2271 Its worth noting that Frank was chosen to fight Brock because of his history of being poor at defending takedowns and easy to pound out on his back. He was basically a tailor made opponent for a guy who can only wrestle.

Whenever I'm on top in half guard, I seem to never be able to keep their leg locked well and they simply slide out. I try really hard but there always seems to be space :(
