Oakland california gets a bad rap for lots of different issues, but that city has produced so many great athletes. Frank Robinson. Bill Russell. Rickey Henderson. Joe Morgan. Vada Pinson. Marshawn lynch. Dave Stewart. Dennis eckersley. Damien Lillard.

Frank is in my Top Tier - just 20 position players - of all time, along with Musial, Williams, Mantle, Aaron, Mays, Ruth, Cobb, Gehrig, and a few others. That's how good Frank was.

Good God! This may be the best delivered speech ever given! Frank is the Jackie Robinson of MLB Management. My tear glands got a rough workout about 2 months ago. I'm sure Hank Aaron, sitting in the audience, remembers this well!

great player, and like all of us, was a work in progress as a human being, i never minded tough guys who spoke their mind, let you have it when you were slacking or a quick nod if you did something good. the kind of guy i'd play my heart out for, everyone needs different motivation so what works for one guy doesn't work for another, but if you want to just go by accomplishment, nobody was better than frank robinson, he/they made me a life long oriole fan. frank robinson's true legacy is he made everyone around him better.

I had the privilege of watching the Robby Twins play baseball as a kid. Thirty years sgo, he made my then-five-year-old nephew’ feel like a Star. We will never forget that.

Robby has been my favorite player since I first saw him at Crosley Field in 1957. The only 'slugger' I ever saw who played every day like a rookie trying to make the team. No middle infielder in the league wanted to see him on first base in a double play situation; he was known as the Black Ty Cobb in his prime.

How many players could be considered the greatest player for two different franchises? I think Frank would have an argument.

I had a dream, where Frank Robinson had passed, and the next day the news came through that he had. I had no connection that I know to Frank, other than a deep admiration for his competative nature. Like many great players, his manager abilities had more challenges -- often great players just cannot understand why lessor players don't get what comes easily and natural to them. This is probably true for you, if there is something you are very good at whether it's carpetry, mechanics, paiting, whatever. It's hard to have the patience and understanding needed because it just doesn't make sense that they don't get it.

I’m pretty sure I speak for all Oriole fans when I say that we agree that Frank’s tenure in Baltimore was way too short.
