Only the Lonely was Sinatra's favorite album he recorded at Capital Records. His divorce from Ava Gardner had finalized and Nelson Riddle had just lost his mother and daughter. The album cover painting of Sinatra in a clown-like makeup won a Grammy. Sinatra was nominated for five Grammys at their inauguration in 1959. Sinatra won a Grammy for the album cover

I love this album! A lonely companion when you are broken hearted after a breakup and are grasping at straws and the drugs , liquor and other people are not enough to console you and all you have is your brokenness to share in prayer to God.

This is Sinatra at his finest, his voice had fully matured. The Nelson Riddle orchestral arrangements are just superb. An award winning album for many reasons, and probably Frank's and Nelson's most definitive recording.
