I’m 13 and my aunt first showed me his version of “(They Long To Be) Close To You” on her record player at the age of around 6-7 so kinda young and immediately I was hooked. And now I have many Frank Sinatra records and love him more than ever before. Thank you so much Frank!

Mr. Sinatra is the best performer ever, & I saw him perform live 14 times. I met him and talked with him twice, both times at the Desert Inn in Las Vegas. Many times, he opened the show with this song. I'll still get excited when I hear the opening bars of this song, because I'm right there, back in the theater, watching this legendary performer and the orchestra, work their magic. Unfortunately, that extraordinary talent doesn't exist anymore.

Greatest male singer of all time. He's in a league of his own.
@sunnyseacat9232
@sunnyseacat9232 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, Frank Sinatra is his own league. Frank did, though, say he wanted to be a singer but different somehow than Bing Crosby, who came before him and was the most recorded/well known singer prior to Frank. Ironically, too, that Bobby Darin echoed similar sentiments about Frank ... that Bobby Darin wanted to be different than Frank. From Bing to Frank to Bobby Darin ... but Sinatra expressed emotionally, through his interpretations of the lyrics, far greater depths than other male singers, and Frank's voice was so unique: you know it when you hear it. Now Bobby Darin ... ah, what a powerhouse, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter too but his voice was not unique. Elvis said he would not want to follow Bobby Darin after Darin performed .... Elvis knew ... ah, but Elvis had a unique voice and was rhythm in motion and was vocally rhythmic too. Bless them all.

Frank owns this song!!!!! Whoever did this arrangement is a genius. Probably Nelson Riddle.
@vidiupload4174
@vidiupload4174 Ай бұрын
Yes, it was Nelson Riddle. What's more, this song has the historical significance of abruptly turning Frank's career around from fading star to superstar. It was the first of many hits to follow as a result of Riddle's arrangements and his orchestra's accompaniment... and, of course, Frank's talent, ability, and drive.

I think I heard Frank sing this song more than once on various tv variety shows in the 60s when I was a young lad. Have not made the time to research this, but it feels right. This is a really good piece! Watch him as he sings. His eyes, his movements and the intonation of the lyrics! To top this comment off: I am not a real Sinatra fan, but he do sing good! Kudos to You Blue Eyes!!!!
