I've got a Frank Thomas textile jacket that I bought 2 and a bit years ago, I wear it summer and winter, it's the dog's bits. Armour everywhere, it's great.

Give hill 4 leather a call. They are based in Ash, next to aldershot. Got a chunkey zip fitted a couple of years or so ago and still works fantastic. Cost me £40 at the time.

Still got the Frank Thomas gloves you recommended a while ago! Love them, best gloves I've ever had... Added bonus of plastic sliders... For the money very good spec! Currently sporting RST in& motion airbag jacket and that's doing well at 3 years! Great vid as always 😊

Ive picked up a few bits from Frank Thomas and ive been happy so far. 6 Years is a good innings for an often worn jacket.

Are you sure the zip doesn't just need a good squeeze with some pilers to tighten it all up again? That sorted my Oxford jacket zipper out after it started playing up after a year.

6 years is a good innings for a bike jacket and the new one looks great.

Yer is just a shame its still basically fine just the zip that has killed it. Not really worth the £100 to get it fixed.

Thats a nice looking jacket, I've had a few FT bits over the last 2 decades (my very first bike helmet was an FT!!) and all lasted quite well ... decent kit at reasonable prices. Have to say though ... not all new jackets come with a dodgy bit of upholstery foam instead of a proper back protector. Bought myself a new winter jacket last week (always get a good deal on winter kit during summer) to fit over my new Tech-Air 5 airbag vest, went with an RST Pro Adventure-X and that came with a full suite of proper level 2 (big class B sized pads) armour including the back protector ... which is kinda ironic as the back protector is the one bit of armour I don't need with the airbag vest on underneath the jacket ... typical 🤣😂

I can also confirm J&S own Frank Thomas, I went into my local J&S at Eynsham and the staff there told me it was their own brand :D

Why don't they make motorbike jackets a bit longer, you sit on your bike and the jacket is half way up your back.

Depends of the style. Go for touring. Im skinny and usually it’s the other way around as in it can be shorter because i never ride perfectly straight back but rather a bit hunched…so… yeah get a touring textile one.

I suspect that none of the brands actually manufacture the stuff they sell but rather produce the specifications and sub out the work. Those same subbies are also making stuff for sale on selling platforms. I bought a nice Spike leather jacket and it’s lovely leather but the piping is synthetic junk and is disintegrating after less than a year. I have stuff from eBay that’s holding up really well by comparison. You pays your money and you takes your choice. After the massive shock to the system worldwide from lockdowns etc the whole edifice is struggling and corners are being cut to cope with raw material inflation so maybe brands are struggling nowadays to sustain their large percentage markup whilst maintaining quality and inspection.

Recently subscribed as I’m a new rider and I think the channel is amazing. What safety clothing and boots would you recommend? Just one more thing I have been offered to purchase a yb100 but I’m 6ft 3 and it feels a little small is this normal or is it too small?

Any local tailor will fit a new zip for you, they aren't very expensive either, usually.👍

It would be about £100 to have it replaced, really not worth it.

That is a simple fix, you don't even need to replace the zip. A gentle tap on the top, pushes the two sections that knit the teeth. That said, who doesn't look for an excuse to but new gear 😅 If you were in North Norfolk I'd send you over to a guy called Sajj at Norfolk Leather Centre in Great Yarmouth!

Those zip teeth look really tiny. Is that normal for FT stuff? I've only had RST and (second hand) Dainese, and they've all had really chunky zips with big teeth. Oldest jacket is 25 years now and no zip issues. 🤨
@spicy1104 ай бұрын
Funny you should ask that I went looking at zips when I was buying this jacket. Yes they all use the smaller tooth zips, BUT they look identical to the zips used on £500+ Alpinestar jackets.

How much do they charge to replace the zip?
@spicy1104 ай бұрын
That depends on what you mean, if you mean Frank Thomas, it is free as it is covered by warranty. I do not know if you can pay them to fix an old jacket. If you mean in general how much does it cost about £100 for a front zip.
