Thanks Dave. I was in band for seven years and was going through the motions playing this. Once I heard the story I never looked at music the same way. I was given the trumpet solo. Which I played down a hallway away from the band. It was meant to symbolize the children letting the parents know they're OK now from heaven

I had the privilege of playing the solo clarinet portion during the trumpet solo. This piece really hits differently when you're an adult and can fully grasp the magnitude of the tragedy it was written for. This song is a masterpiece and I genuinely believe every concert band performer deserves to play it at least once.

As someone who went to school very close to CHS, and the people I know that had to suffer through that, this song will NEVER fail to make me cry, I could hardly play it while I was in HS. Absolute masterpiece of composing.

Played this joint in high school. I played bass drum on it. A LOT of rehearsing went into it fasho fasho. Beautiful piece.
