Nina Blackwood was new in the biz. Having to do pre-concert banter with FZ was much too imposing for a newbie. Zappa tore her a new one, so to speak. Baptism by fire.

she could've at least NOT flirted with Frank or behaved like his puppet. i guess she wasn't merely nervous. she looks to be on several different types of "trendy chemical amusement aids". the eyes are a dead giveaway. The way i see it, he didn't get obnoxious until she got obnoxious.

​ @pauline butcher bird - I agree, Pauline, or should I say Par-leen. If an interviewer gave any sign of weakness, Frank jumped at the opportunity to do his schtick and sometimes be cruel. I read your book and it is simply fantastic. I like that you wrote not only about your good experiences, but the bad as well. Your insights are far more interesting to me than the vast majority of Zappa books that only praise him. He was a flawed human like the rest of us. I hope you write another book some day.
