Very interesting man to listen to. Articulate, sensible, cogent and does not rely on the verbal crutches people usually lean on. No expletives or ums and ahs, and instant memory recall. Answers the questions directly, without fudging, dodging the issue or trying to cange the subject. And all with a wry smile. Altogether, the most impressive rock star interview I've heard in many a year.

roberto seveno I get you 100%. I’m not saying Zappa was better. In my opinion The Beatles are still the greatest music act of the XX century and geniuses and intuitive creators. Their song catalog and their innovations and many contributions expanding rock music into so many styles, has no comparison. My point is, Zappa was a savvy composer and an amazing musician, with a very solid jazz and classical background, and he was not precisely a people person. Frank Zappa (Spin Magazine July, 1991) Civics was a class that used to be required before you could graduate from high school. You were taught what was in the U.S. Constitution. And after all the student rebellions in the 60’s, civics was banished from the student curriculum and was replaced by something called social studies. Here we live in a country that has a fabulous constitution and all these guarantees, a contract between the citizens and the government - nobody knows what’s in it. It’s one of the best kept secrets. Incan Roads & Andy Devine are favorite songs of mine but Pajama People has the most incredible guitar solo in it by Frank but it was hearing the album "FREAK OUT" the first time somewhere around 1970 that instantly showed me how unbelievably articulate he is musically. He made fun of the popular 50's music but actually outdid them at their own game. Genius! Once I heard "HELP I'M A ROCK" I began to sort of campaign for him at school & at partys. What was so cool was that I would ask a person what type of music they enjoyed & no matter what type Frank had an album done in that style. Seeing him in concert at the UCLA Poly Pavilion on Halloween was an EVENT! A bunch of us (in our teens) went dressed as mental ward patients complete with stenciled attire that read "Property of UCLA Mental Ward" & chaperoned by 2 large (simulated) Security Guards with official badges & all. They allowed us to stand at the front of the stage moaning "FRANKIE . . . OH, FRAAANKIE" like he was Frankie Avalon. We made Frank laugh! It was awesome! To admire & respect a man that intelligent & have the opportunity to make him laugh is PRICELESS!!!!!!

This argument over the Beatles vs the Stones is silly. Both were great bands with dozens of great songs. The Beatles were only around for about 7 years( at least in the eye I felt the public) whereas the Stones were recording well into the 80's and popular well into the 80's in regards to top 40 etc, so the Stones have a bigger catalogue, but the Beatles had George Martin, who really brought the Beatles up to a higher level musically as far as complexity of arrangements, orchestration and innovation. The Stones had some orchestration as well, but remained always more of a bar band, straight out rock roll with a blues influence. Both styles and both bands were great. Period.

Civics was a class that used to be required before you could graduate from high school. And so, IF YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOUR RIGHTS ARE, HOW CAN YOU STAND UP FOR THEM? --- Frank Zappa (Spin Magazine July, 1991)
@markobarrows43048 жыл бұрын
+Bill Bass Great observation Bill. If a mans voice or vote has no value than what? WE MUST ALL STAND UP FOR SIMPLE DECENT HUMANN RIGHTS, and ONE MAN/WOMEN...ONE VOTE!!!! Fuck delegates and the Electoral college. ONE MAN/WOMEN ONE VOTE. I know I am not crazy.
@markrago22708 жыл бұрын
Marko Barrows you are crazy because unless you live in New York City or Los Angeles or another big city you need your voice heard in rural and low population areas. I don't want some wacky liberal elitist in New York speaking for me. the electoral college is necessary to give all people an equal voice. liberals have been filling cities with illegal immigrants and fighting for their rights so when the day comes that they try to abolish the college, they will have populated areas under their thumb and it'll be left wing tyranny forever. politicians are like diapers, they need changed once in awhile. Be it Obama or Trump or lower ranking officials, regime changes keep things balanced in this country. I find it ironic when liberals call conservatives racists when their president is an anti-Semitic piece of trash. such hypocrisy on both sides of the aisle. It could be worse I guess.
@digitalgraffiti5278 жыл бұрын
Are you saying that because the majority of people live in cities that their vote should count less than people who do not live in cities?
@markrago22708 жыл бұрын
digital tyranny No. I'm saying that if elections were decided by popular votes, the ten largest cities would decide elections constantly due to dense population. If 200,000,000 people live in large cities, and 2/3 of those people are Democrats, and in rural areas there is 100,000,000 people and 2/3 of those people are Republican, the Democrats would win every election. It's about giving all demographics a say. It's not a coincidence Dems welcome immigrants and diversity to cities. They do it constantly. They want to do away with the electoral college after they saturate high population centers with people that share their ideals or who they helped go around the law to become citizens. It's their end game and it'll never happen because the electoral college will be around for a long time
@willicat4418 жыл бұрын
Mark, that coastal- elite-dense demographic pays for the rural farm subsidies, doesn't it? We pay higher gas/food/insurance/utility prices while the heartland pays less. Property values are much more inflated, wages only marginally higher. To let the electoral college represent bazillion acres of farmland or open space over the actual percentage of [dense ] people voting seems like over-averaging. Two Senators for Montana, two for California [4th largest economy in the world]?! Besides, it's the gerrymandering and obstructionism, voter restriction and conservatives love to have government jobs, that got us to Dictatrump. Besides Faux News and corporate influence peddling.

I don't know where you got that quote, but I read his biography and there was not one thing in there about him being a racist, and they didn't sugar coat his life Some others that did mostly covers (Janis Joplin,Tony Bennett,Buddy Rich,Joe Cocker) Pick any blues or jazz artist and they mostly do covers. That does not diminish their music or make them a thief. Elvis had a huge impact on rock & roll and his place in music history is sealed.

I have all the Beatles albums. I’m 55 and listened to the entire Revolver album yesterday. Yes, yesterday. Ha! I would say that my favorite music by The Rolling Stones was when Brian Jones was in the band. Anyway...

John & Yoko and Frank worked together at one point. To say that The Beatles were OK is an opinion (which everyone has a right to, of course), but to not acknowledge the huge cultural and musical influence they had was a bit remiss of Frank, I think (although he did tell the story about the Beatle Bob, but did not connect it to The Beatles).
