I know all four of the players. All four are excellent ambassadors of the sport. I’ve never heard anything negative regarding their sportsmanship.

I like the orange ball (ONIX Pure indoor), much easier to see against the light green background, despite the fact that I'm a tennis player using yellow balls, must be indoor lighting. It seems a little heavier and softer also.
@FrankAnthonyDavis8 жыл бұрын
Roy Baty A lot of tennis players seems to like the Onix Pure balls for a several reasons. I think on a wood or composite surface the Onix Pure Indoor is probably okay but I prefer the Jugs Bulldog. For a hardcourt tennis surface I will stick with the Dura Fast 40 all day. The Dura Fast 40 also comes in Orange btw.

Jaren Mccutchan - We use the Onix 503.. This is the Onix version of the Dura Fast 40 ball. This is an indoor facility but has a hardcourt tennis surface.

Not sure if it's either Tommy or Eric that has a tantrum about the foot fault call - but he clearly steps on the kitchen line lol. The ref was staring right at it if you pause the video @15:48 Good call ref.

I think I'm an 8.0 player. Everytime I play, my shots go right through the net like it's not there. Also there's no out-of-bounds or NVZ for me. I may be the God that invented this sport....

Is 1:55 legal? Can someone explain that rule
@FrankAnthonyDavis5 жыл бұрын
Hey! Yes, absolutely legal! The No Volley Zone does not extend infinitely, only to the lines. So provided that you have (or did have prior to leaving the ground) your feet established outside of the non volley zone you are free to volley anywhere. As long as the shot is initiated on your side of the net. :-)

Is there ever an officials call for illegal serve technique? One of the players appears to have his wrist flexed with the paddle above his wrist joint.
@FrankAnthonyDavis6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it is called occasionally. Not rigorously enforced in most cases.
@coachhannah24036 жыл бұрын
What I’ve seen is at the upper levels, no one tries really intricate serves, so no real advantage is gained even if technically the motion might be illegal. At 3-3.5 level, people use fancy serves because the opponents are susceptible enough to make up for the extra misses. At 5.0, you will rarely see a missed serve because the serve cannot be made interesting enough to make up for the added free points given.
@robertmatetich28983 жыл бұрын
If there's no advantage to it, why is it done? Forcing a player into a legal serve that is less comfortable for him would remove his advantage.

I know right I was just thinking they, they definitely aren’t I’m 4.0 and play like them they are 4.0’s at most. Not enough dinking wayyy too many unforced errors and lack of long rallies. This is a 4.0 match at best

Why no lobs ? Why no spin serves ?

I'd add to the spin point. Spin makes it slower and the better opposition benefit more from the extra time than are affected by the spin. Interesting on the lob. I read somewhere about a pair of top racket ball players simply standing at the back and lobbing the ball. I think they beat a highly ranked pair. 4.5 or above. Can lobs work? All depends on your skill levels. As noted above, there are more physically challenging racket sports than pickleball. Badminton for example. Having said that, pickleball is fun!

bangers not many dinks
@DuhDuJour7 жыл бұрын
so there's only 1 style and strategy to win in pickleball, which is dink and volley. if the game puts so much advantage to that aspect of the game why don't they make it wider so ppl can pass them. it makes the game too one dimensional
@TakeOffYourBoots6 жыл бұрын
+Robert Builder The game is what it is. People with low mobility like it for the reasons you stated, but more and more younger people (as well as tennis players) are picking the game up nowadays as well, and the style of play is changing to reflect that. It’s becoming faster and more aggressive, and while a tool like a great spin shot won’t be as likely to grant a winner or forced error as in tennis, it will grant an incremental advantage as you move your opponent around the court. There’s a match that’s been posted between Yates/Jardim and McGuffin/Ansboury which kinda shows that what passed for 5.0 ten years ago isn’t where the game is at today. For the OP, that match also shows four players who all have their play style, even if the goal is just “dink and volley.” Think of it like volleyball. Is volleyball limited for being “set and smash?”

@@robertbuilder8898 Some places do not have enough pickle ball players to really have a high level of 5.0 players. Those players come to more skilled regions and we feel like they are not really up to the 5.0 level but they are the best in their own region. With pickleball gaining popularity, that's slowly changing. But tennis is still a more established sport with more long time players. Although it is true that pickle ball relies more on strategy and reflexes than on cardio and foot speed, at the highest levels, you will still need those as well. And since the paddle and ball are lighter and the service is underhand, there is less long term damage to tendons. I see a lot of tennis players switching over as they get older because they still want to play a fast fun racket sport but tennis has slowly ruined their serving shoulder and without that, they are at a severe disadvantage in tennis. The other advantage of pickle is that beginners can have more fun with pickleball, it's easier to get the ball over the net and there is less distance to travel, it may not be a high quality shot but at least you can keep the ball in play and have fun even if you are not very good, so it is a sport that more people at many levels can enjoy and it's easier to get newbies interested in it. And if you feel you are not getting enough cardio, just play singles and that will shut you up. ;-P For these reasons, pickle has been gaining in popularity and tennis has been waning in popularity, pickle ball has been slowly taking over courts previously used for tennis, and many tennis aficionados have come to fear pickle ball as dangerous to the popularity of tennis and enjoy maligning it.
@OnceUponaTimeline5 жыл бұрын
@@robertbuilder8898 Maybe it's a local thing but locally we are taking over a lot of tennis courts because tennis court use has declined and weeds are growing. Locally we have higher level pickle ball play, many top players are from my areas and people do play singles. The larger tournaments locally have all gone to cash payouts for winners, $1,000 plus. Sports therapists are the ones saying the impact is higher on tendons with heavier rackets and balls of tennis, it's not the swing speed, it is the impact that does the damage over time. I also never said tennis is less popular, it is just declining while pickle ball popularity is growing and we are taking over the tennis courts. Even the tennis magazines and websites admit tennis popularity has declined quite a bit since the 70s and 80s. Perhaps 'dying' is a bit harsh though, but it is on the decline and pickleball is on a huge upsurge and we use similar courts, that puts tennis courts at risk for takeover which is what has been happening. I don't live in a retirement community, the courts are at various parks plus some cities have been building us custom courts lately due to heavy demand. Maybe your area just does not have very good play yet, pickleball is rising fast but some areas are behind others. Sounds like your area is not very competitive.
