The two restaurants are actually owned by extended families that came from brothers who started the Bavarian Inn. One brother owns the Bavarian Inn and the other owns the one across the street.

I am a Frankenmuth native and I've been working at the Bavarian Inn as a server and hostess for going on 4 years now! I just wanted to add that while the two restaurants are technically both owned by the Zehnder family, it's basically now the cousins running them completely separately after the founders (who were brothers) passed away. Also, fun fact, while it is certainly similar, the chicken is NOT the same! The chicken seasoning in the breading that the Bav uses is Dorothy Zehnder's super secret recipe that not even the other side of the street knows! That seasoning is one of the ones on the table that you totally should have put in your soup to flavor it more and additionally on the chicken. I even like a bit more in my potatoes or anything really!

I love the stollen! But, if you buy a loaf in the bakery you can get the kind with frosting on the top. That makes it even better!

I have never ate in their Inns while visiting , but have tried their fudge and saltwater taffy , both are delicious . This was back when I was first married . It is nice up there in the UP . If I were younger I would do some traveling , but getting too old for it anymore .

We have a Bavarian Inn in Bettendorf, IA. It is a wonderful hotel and restraunt that is very similar and serves similar food. We used to go to spend New Years Eve. Always a wonderful time. There they serve three types of bread white, dark and delicious rye rolls. Yum! The food is outstanding.

Me and my husband always go to Zehnders instead of the Bavarian Inn in Frankenmuth. During your birthday month Zehnders gives you a free family style chicken dinner if you sign up for their free membership card! I don't know if the Bavarian Inn does that or not. It's an awesome deal and we get to visit frankenmuth at least 2 times a year. We only live an hour away so it's been our family tradition for many years.

Hey when you go to Zehnders go to the ZCafe in the basement. Same food just alittle less expensive. We go there and get the family 4 pack its like $40.00, feeds the 3 of us.....all adults and then theres alot left for lunch and even dinner the next day:)

Glad you went to Bavarian Inn for lunch after you showed Bronners! What a great day stop or weekend Frankrnmouth is. But, we were disappointed you didn't even show the all you can eat family style. There are so many sides brought to the table! Definitely the way to go for others who visit for the first time, (the stuffing is our families least favorite part, lol). I love the smoked pork. Dawn, the Schnitzel used to be my Dad's favorite, God rest his soul. You really should have tried it! 😀 My husband LOOOOOVES the Stollen bread. Yes, it is made with candied fruit, just like fruitcake, but the batter is just yeast bread. Your video to Bronners spurned a spontaneous trip to Frankenmouth last weekend, and we met our son and his wife! Continuing the family tradition. Glad you got to come home! Merry Christmas!!!!

Always worth a stop when heading north. I love the Turkey Noodle Soup there. The mashed and gravy never disappoints. I can never decide between this ans Turkey Roost in Kawkalin. The basement shop is a bank account killer but the goodies are delicious.
