"The battle cry don't mess with me, I'll travel this world for Eternity", as will F.G.T.H. & Holly Johnson's sublime vocals, cassette and vinyl was how we savoured the sound circa mid '80s, 2024 & beyond, fresh as day one...Respect 'n Love all day long ✌🙏😎

i saw frankie at their 3 christmas gigs in liverpool royal court theatre in 84, all 3 too. the band stayed in the then holliday inn in liverpool for the duration, met them all 3 nights and got complimentary tickets for all 3 gigs. also used to go to nashers mums house and marks mums home too. mark had a frankie sticker on his bedroom window. i also had a bacon sandwich at hollys parents home off smithdown road. fantastic exciting times. that's what the eghties was for me. greetings from kirkby, liverpool, u.k.

Was a huge FGTH fan back in the day - still am - and I was in the crowd at this particular gig. It was the first live concert I’d ever been to and it blew my mind. Sadly, this was the gig that pretty much marked the end of the band - if I remember rightly from Nasher’s biography it was backstage here that Mark O’Toole had a massive bust-up with Holly Johnson, ending in him kicking Holly up the arse ...
@odarquehunnett2005 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave...I'm a long-time fan as well; saw them at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago in the spring of my senior year ('85). I chose to see them on the same day as my Prom, and I was not disappointed. Of course, I don't remember how many songs they did eventually ended up on "Liverpool", B-sides or tracks that ended up in their vault for re-release. I'd have to say "War" and "Two Tribes" were the absolute faves then and in this concert too. Hate that they had to split up, but good to see that Holly had "Europa", Paul had "Get Real" and a CD in 2011, and Nasher's doing his thing, so most of the band had some later success!

It looks like swan's song; with this beautiful rendition of Two Tribes that closes the show with a bitter taste... They split too soon; this was so amazing, so great, the dream was too big.

Creatively ZTT was best label for them, and contractually the worst as it only exacerbated the ego problems in the band with Holly. ZTT showed Holly he could work separate from them and make great music with the right producer cutting the tracks in a big time studio. Their chemistry was never the same again after signing with ZTT. Even leaving ZTT couldn't save them after that experience.

As much as I love FGTH, this recording of their performance isn't mixed very well at all. Vocals got drowned out all over the place and piano/synth parts you heard in the album version are also too low. A shame because Wembley is a great arena and the band is as solid as they've ever been...but the engineers should be shot and strung up for how this came out overall.
