Visiting London for the first time in 2008 I locked in a core memory. Two of the most beautifully and elaborately outfitted people/creatures I have ever seen to this day were politely sitting on the tube. The levels of detail to their head to toe decoration, which combined heavy notes of "goth", "creatures from the dark abyss," "Klub Kids," and "Japanese Cybercowboys", was truly epic. In my memory there was no more than 5% skin exposed, including elaborate full face prosthetics. The platform combat boots with no less than 10 inches of lift and numerous chains were especially impressive, though the hair expanding in complex geometries for feet above and beyond them were also crucial elements. I remember one being more pure darkness and the other more colorful and creaturified. To this day I regret not speaking to them, asking them where they were going, who knows what my life could have been? But then, this was the UK and I had just landed after a 16+ hour flight travel experience, so perhaps I made the right decision. In any case, wherever you are out there you beautiful creatures of the night, I solute you.

This shows that goths have a sense of humour and Franky is actually more goth than NIN. It was around the time MySpace was a thing when goth seemed to die out with the rise of the emo. Maybe the emo scene was a good thing by weeding out the posers and leaving the now endangered true goth. However, with the popularity of goth in anime and as a cosplay theme. It's led the masses to be confused and them referring metal heads/moshers as goth. We may wear black, but we're nowhere near sophisticated enough to be goth.
