Dr. Brown, I've been watching your videos for a while now, but I wanted to give you a quick note about how much I am enjoying the new format. Video quality is superb! Wonderful job! I do miss the intro music though. :)

I agree, the videos are much improved! His old intro music (if you like Byzantine chant) can be found at "Holy Saturday 2000, Choir of Vatopedi Fathers, Mount Athos. His former intro is a tonal indicator that precedes the main chorus and can be found at 33:18 on this recording. Cheers, Steve

I prefer semiflex to vintage flex anyway. It suits my writing better. I would agree that the SIG nib looks more interesting, partly because the Round nib isn't fine enough to start with. I think they need to start with an EF to show off the line variation, even in semiflex. IMO, of course. I'm sure others like that line width. The SIG flex nib is a definite winner, though.

Thank you, Stephen. "The nib, the gist, the point, as it were." I will definitely be ordering these , perhaps in the autumn.

I've seen more flex with standard steel nibs. For example the EF steel nib on my Pelikan M200 flexes very easily, not sure if it's meant to, but my writing accidentally has lots of character added to it.

Been looking forward to this video. My f-C flex was incredibly smooth but had the issue with the nib and feed separating. I'm an illustrator/cartoonist so I needed a little more line variation than what it could deliver so I wound up sending it back and swapping for a fude nib. More than likely getting a second franklin Christoph with a sig flex later on down the road.

Do you have any good 'script/handwriting styles' books? What's the word for them, they are books with different styles of handwriting a-z and put together in word patterns for us to practice from?.
@polatomp80947 жыл бұрын
They should look at the feed - the nib is not deep enough in the feed for a flex nib. The price for using the Jowo nib units. I think they should try to create their own feed (maybe ebonite) that fits in the pen barrel. Something like the Noodler's Ahab. Then the nib could be deeper in the pen and would not bend out.

Dear Dr. SBRE, Great review!. Thank you. FC also has a 14K flex SIG nib. What comparative difference do you anticipate with the gold versus the steel SIG nibs, especially since the latter performed so beautifully & the former is quite a bit more expensive? Thanks.

I think these nibs are now available on Edison pens also. Thanks for the review Stephen

I see this as a pen with great potential, however, uncorrected this would be a deal breaker for me.A little re-engineering could fix the nib/feed seperation issue. Another great review as always.

Younger Stephen would be so enthusiastic about these nibs! Not that you were not but he would sell me on these immediately. That being said, younger me wouldn't need much convincing either. So interesting to see how is our personal growth reflected in our approach to our wonderful hobby.

From what i understand the SIG grind is a stub rebranded as SIG. Italic - Cursive Italic - Stub. This is very old hat.
@strelnikoff77 жыл бұрын
Great video again! Does SIG nib separate/bend from the feed too? I was about to order one. That's actually bizarre and somewhat scary thing. Indicates (perhaps) metal fatigue in near future...
@sbrebrown7 жыл бұрын
+strelnikoff7 Yes, the SIG does it too. I don't think the nib bends, I think it just loses its alignment. Perhaps there is a bit of wiggle room in the nib collar.

Thank you! Knowing myself, I'd be constantly annoyed. Still... I may get one nevertheless. There's gotta be some way to fix it in place.

I recently bought a SIG from FC and I'm very disappointed with the grind. It doesn't seem like there was much care in grinding or I was sent the bottom of the barrel because I ordered just a nib and not a pen. The top side of the nib has a very ugly angled grind on it and the tines grab the paper when I write. It was a very disappointing experience and recommend they stay away from FC.

They sure sound scratchy on this video, Stephen. I take it that is just from how your sound is set up because you repeatedly say they are smooth.
