So glad I was able to participate in the Star Class for about 10 years in So Cal. Finnished up the last few years hanging over the side with my kids on the stick, who are all great great sailors because of all of it.

I grew up at San Diego yacht club sailing Sabots, Stars, Solings, and eventually offshore with my dad who campaigned out of SDYC for 25 years … That old gray crane you see in this video at 3:20?… I put boats in the water with that probably 100 times in the 70’s .. thanks for posting this. A lot of the people in this video I knew when I was a child, and this brings back a lot of memories.

Love this! My dad was a huge Star sailor. Rocco Campanelli was his name. Just passed this February at the age of 90. A sailor till the end.

Varnished deck & cockpit, robin's egg blue topsides, transom & bottom, white boot top, white leading edges on keel & rudder (or maybe just white below waterline) = BEAUTY !!

That right! We didn't need tiller extensions either! And most of us didn't get sunglasses or hats. Just the clothes we showed up in. Same ones the whole regatta.
