After a lot of searching KZbin this is exactly what I was looking for. A straightforward no nonsense clear and consise helpful guide. Thank you. In my workshop I rip down wood on a table saw and spin it on my lathe at around 1,500 rpm while using chisels that can rip your head off and don't think anything of it. Sit me in front of a sewing machine and it scares the giblets out of me! Definitely a sub and a thumbs up from me ☺

Absolutely fascinating. Been a sewer all my life of all different kinds too numerous to mention. The thing that moved me to try this was I was at an exhibition and saw some beautiful free embroidery landscapes. They were stunning. I walk every day so get much inspiration from nature and thought I'm going to give this a go. Trawled the web for info and ideas and came across this tutorial. Succinct and to the point, have bookmarked it so I can refer back if I get stuck. Thank you and may 2022 bring you health, happiness, peace and happier days to come.

Thanks you for a very clear and uncomplicated explanation. I am a complete beginner to sewing and was instantly fascinated by machine embroidery when I came across it on a project I was doing on KZbin. Most of the videos I have seen are American and talk about many products which often are not available in the UK not to mention sounding highly complicated. Thanks again.

Loved this video and how simply and easily you explained this technique. I have an embroidery machine that I have been wanting to try to use for about a year now and a sewing machine that I received for a Christmas present way back in 2014 and still have not used other then to get out of the box and look at all the parts. I don't think I even sewed a straight stitch to try it out. I used to sew simple things all the time in my younger days I am almost 53 now and also in my healthier days too. I mostly did curtains, pillow cases, I made satin roses and a few other craft items. But you have me wanting to use both of my machines now. My almost 18 year old daughter (we are both August babies 2nd & 20th) hand embroidered the letters REP on a shirt the other day to wear to the Taylor Swift concert I am taking her to on 8/7 for her birthday present because Taylor's latest CD is titled Reputation. She will be so upset that she could have used my machine to do it in no time at all. But it means more that she did it by hand. She is hoping Taylor spots her in the crowd and picks her for a meet and greet. She has loved Taylor since she was 7 and Taylor was just starting our. My daughter plays piano and ukulele and she has all but one of Taylor's song books. She has learned every single one of her songs on the piano and most on the ukulele too. She played Best Day Of My Life by Taylor for me at church on Mother's Day 2017 along with a 21-Pilots song House Of Gold and I tell you what I had a few tears when she first started singing and playing but I was full out sobbing by the time she finished along with most of the ladies in the church who are close to us. I'm sorry I always find a way to brag about my wonderful daughter Macie no matter what I start our talking about. But thank you so much Claire for sparking my interest in wanting to dust off my machines and see what they can do. I am off to watch some more of your videos. And just in case you are interested or anyone reading this my daughter has a channel on here where you can listen to her play it is called Maciemakesmusic. It would make her feel so good to have a few more views. I hope it is alright that I mentioned her. I apologize if it isn't.

I broke out my Bernina 1008 to make a cat sack for our new kitten. Each time I use the machine I need to reread the instructions. This time I decided to learn about all the presser feet I have as well as explore different things. I found your video and it showed me how easy it is to do free machine embroidery. I wish I'd done this at the beginning of the Covid thing. But at least I found it now. Your explanation was clear and to the point. Often I find myself talking to instructional videos saying, "Get to the point and stop interjecting things you just thought about." Yup I know people who post instructional videos are taking their time to help others and do it for free. Nevertheless, when I see a well constructed video I say Thank You.

Hi Scott, I really appreciate our comments. It can be a tricky balance to get it right and I realise I can't please everyone but it's great to hear that you enjoyed it. Thanks for your great videos! I've been trying Free Motion embroidery for a while now and sometimes it works fine, and other times I get loads of skipped stitches, birdnesting, thread breaking etc etc. Do you have any tips for smooth stitching all the time? I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong! I use stitchable bondaweb, have cleaned my needle etc, and I don't know what else to try. Thanks!
@clairemuirfreemachineembro78632 жыл бұрын
Hiya, skipped stitches= new needle required and the right thickness of needle. If you are sewing through quite thick fabric and the bondaweb you probably need a 90 and not an 80. Birds nest underneath= you've forgotten to lower the presser foot to engage the top tension mechanism or its just not threaded correctly at the top. Have you tried just using some calico or cotton, no backing in a hoop? Make sure the fabric is nice and taught and give that a go

Hello! Great video. Can you do this with a regular sewing machine?
@clairemuirfreemachineembro78632 жыл бұрын
Yes you can. Just lower the feed dogs /drop the teeth or if your machine has it , cover them up with the plastic plate that came with the machine. Look in your instruction book for how to lower the teeth

Great video but is a presser foot necessary as yours doesn't seem to be in contact with the fabric ?
@clairemuirfreemachineembro78634 жыл бұрын
The free machine embroidery foot doesn't clamp the fabric in the same way as a conventional foot and its because of this that you can move your fabric in any direction. The presser foot helps protect your fingers from the needle and if you you are doing free motion quilting, it can help smooth the layers of the fabric.

I don’t have the right presser foot and have heard you can just use no presser foot at all, is that true?
