Since you have a Moomin mug and a poster I recommend reading Tove Jansson's novels, because people know her from the Moomins, but often don't know that she has written for adults too (not to say that Moomins are not for the adults 😅). For example Fair Play is about two artistic women in a relationship and it's inspired by Jansson's own relationship with Tuulikki Pietilä. That could be a good one to start with 😊 I love the new bookshelf!

This is the most simple modern bookshelves i see and fell in love with, your creation by trying to sit and imagine yourself reading a book is totally i magineyself doing this. I build my bookshelves this summer and it was a life dream of me, this is the harvest i want in life, not money, not houses but rich in mind and cultures. Author Maguy Daoud from Lebanon.

I love how queerness gives you the audacity and the capacity to build up things from nothing (I made up an entire bed, two couches and a desk), "who needs skills when you have ✨gay✨!" At first your bookshelf made me remember the Centre Pompidou :D it ended very well (also Hamburguesa approved!) and YES: your reading nook is actual heaven ✨Also love your winther-themed hair ❄

i think the best system for a set of shelves is to have no system. i like that the books all get to speak to each other, non-dependant on genre or alphabetical sequence. also when you throw them haphazardly together sometimes you notice that certain books go together and it's almost as if it's by their own choosing. my bookcase is a living breathing organism of its own and i love it... im listening to the radio and i thought "i gotta pick up 'the silent cry' by this Japanese author i like and then a japanese language song started to blare through my stereo. augh, i love books too. bathing in language. friggin' wonderful

Que lindo Fran! Amando tu biblioteca.

Coincidence! I literally just started reading The Great Gatsby yesterday! I guess I should say re-reading, because you’re right; I did read it in high school. But that was a long time ago and I’ve forgotten the story… I love when coincidences happen! Anyhoo… I used to be an avid reader when I was younger but fell off when I was in college/in my 20s. It took me a LONG time to get into it again, and I realized it’s because my reading tastes had changed and I kept trying to read the stuff I used to like instead of things that interest me now. Figuring that out was a game changer and now I love to read again! Your advice here is spot on!👏 Congrats on the new book shelf-it looks great! I’ll be surprised if Hamurguesa doesn’t take over that empty bottoms shelf at some point though😸

Wow, that bookshelf turned out wonderfully! So I grew up in a home where books were always around, and we were always encouraged to read. My mom ALWAYS packed us books for any downtime we'd experience, and it's a habit I still have now in my 30s. So it wasn't until much later in life that I realized it was weird that I could literally read all day, no exaggeration. We're talking hours and hours just reading. Folks told me that was impressive - that they couldn't read more than a few pages without sleeping. So indeed, I guess it's a muscle I never lost! As an avid reader, I love your book content as much as your art content - thank you for sharing! And for the recommendations!

This is similar to my story! I grew up poor, but the library is free, so it was always a fun thing to do to go to the library every other week, and I was encouraged by my parents to read as much as possible! I just had this Monday off and no joke, read for like 10 hours 🤓. I will finish a book and immediately start another one, and usually have like 4 or 5 things on hold to make sure I am never without!

I have loved reading since childhood, and it makes me so happy to see people get into it. I've always said to people who say reading is too hard or not very engaging that it's a skill you build up by doing it, so your analogy of reading being like working out resonated with me very much

I love your book shelf Fran! So happy to see a lot of artists/creators recommending reading and books. I found my love for books after I moved to the US...once I started college in NYC. I got inspired by my English Literature professors. I saw their passion for reading and writing. That's is when I got introduced to "The Bell Jar" by Sylvia Plath. I also got introduced to a diverse array of authors while taking Art History courses...I miss my college years. After I graduated, adulting happened and I stopped reading like I used to. Only recently, during a couple trips to South Korea inspired by BTS, I visited a beautiful library about 2 hours from Seoul. It had so many books in different languages, mostly focused on art. I picked so many books and read about the lives and works of so many artists...I didn't want to leave that place. After that, my book collection kept growing. So thankful for books!

I love it! The shade of red looks really good with the wood and your decor. Yeah in the States, English Literature or Language Arts (as it was called when I was in high school) there was a focus on classic literature, if the school board allowed it. That's how I discovered a lot of my favorite books were also banned books, depending on the county/city and state. Nothing makes you want to read a book more than finding out it's a banned book. 😆

Libraries! I am so thankful my mom took my brother and me regularly to the library. I also read a lot more books where I didn't know what the plot and undertones were exactly. Nowadays I find myself often refusing to read books when I have the tiniest fear to not like them. Lending books from the library is far less commiting.

The bookshelf looks so good! I've also been trying to read more and get back into the habit of reading. You've got some really good methods and I agree that libraries are fantastic resources! ❤ As for books I'm excited about myself, I'm going to properly read The Hobbit and the LOTR trilogy again! I am almost done reading 'The Draw of The Sea' by Wyl Menmuir about costal life and what calls people to it and it's related hobbies and lifestyles, and it's a resonant and fascinating read, I highly recommend it! I'm also finally going to finish reading the manga series 'Karneval' by Touya Mikanagi. I've been collecting them over the years with saved up money and bought the last 6 volumes with a work bonus! The art style and colours are gorgeous!

This year has been a huge shift for me in my reading life. I've decided to read less, but to read more deeply. I started a notebook to write about each book I read, and I'm trying to finish those entries before I finish the next book. Another new thing I'm trying is to read one author's entire oeuvre. I've chosen Adrian Tchaikovsky this year. It's been interesting to see the connecting threads and ideas between his different stories.

i'm not a native English speaker, but i now think in English mainly because of what i read for literature when i was 18-19, and Brave New World was one of those books that changed my entire life! Be warned though - it was SO HARD TO READ hahahah. a lot of the language is, i believe, purposefully meant to be overly complex and confusing (with a dystopian context and also a very different culture set in that dystopian context, for me), so i had to look up SO MANY TERMS as an 18-yo, and i can't even say confidently now as a 32-yo that i can re-read that book with perfect understanding! which is, what makes books so beautiful i believe. you can keep re-reading the same books and keep getting new things out of it
