Born in Moeavia, Richer was with the famous "Mannheim" school and was considered as one his most severe and "conservative" members. I do thjink that this is unfair. The Mannheim composers were full of ideas, but that could lead to some form of anarchy or at least structural incohrence. Richter was that man who helped in structuring the researches of the school. Ha was among the first composers to write symphonies in the modern meaning of the word, and it easy to show that he wrote successfull string quartets with fugato mob vements at least one year before Haydn. This mlix of traditional knowledge and taste for innovation make him very attractive. We could say that he was a vary imporant actor of that movement, xith features of his own. He deserves to be rediscovered. Then, he left Mannheim for Strasburg, where he left aby undant ans excellent religious music. Local musicologists know him very well, and in Strasburg, one street bears his name, which is a great proof of honor. Just a funny point to make him less severe and more alive: accordng to Mozart, he had an excessive taste for wine ..(and nice women when he was younger) ...)

František Xaver Richter / Franz X. or as he called himself in France: François X. (1709, Holleschau, Moravia - 1789, Strasbourg) was a singer (bass), violinist and composer. And an important representative of the Mannheim School. In Franz Xaver Richter's works, stylistic features of the Baroque are combined with gallant elements.

HarpsichordA6 How fortunate for us, to have Annael be so generous to share her really magnificent art. Just as you say ... cute, noble and enchanting. However, I see even a bit more in her work. In fact, I think she is a very significant artist ... and I would not be surprised if eventually she will be seen in the same category as Gustav Klimt ... and beyond ... Lucky for you to know her ... lucky for us to benefit from it! My friend Amalia from Spain has paid appropriate tribute to her, in a ten part presentation. Her wonderful channel ... "Jane Burden Morris" :o) Big Hug, Karin

Val, this recording of the Con Fuga by Richter is a new one to me. I have the Chandos recording with Matthias Bamert, and I still remember the old DG Archiv recording that first introduced this work on LP back in 1961. What is the provenance of this recording? Is it a new Supraphon release?

Dear Abdul, yes, it is new recording performed by Czech Ensemble Baroque from 2014 on Supraphon label.
