I saw them live in Dublin a couple weeks ago, and they played this song. This song has been there for me for so many beginnings and ends, defining times of my life; good and bad and with each thing the song grew a different meaning. I guess you could say the song grew up with me. I cried during this song, and I was shocked Alex saw me crying while singing along (I was in the fornt). After the song, he had stated I was crying and that in a way it was moving. I think in that moment of listening to it live, a bit of everything I felt came through throughout all those years. It was the best live concert I've been to and I wish all members of the band--current and retired--thank you for an art like no other

I was in 8th grade when I used to listen to them..I'm glad I listened to various genres of rock bands back then and being not like a typical teenager. But as teens we had better mainstream music as well back then..I loved watching Audioslave, Green day, My Chemical Romance, Arctic Monkeys, The Kooks, The Feeling etc. on Mtv and mostly on Vh1 and found Franz Ferdinand in a CD shop..after which I heard it on my walkman all the time.

This is a fantastic song. If anyone is interested here's what i believe it means.. the protagonist loves the girl but he cannot commit to her. She has perhaps hurt him and he refuses to concede forgiveness, remaining a cold-hearted unbeliever in love. But rather than tell her so, he resorts to cruel behavior to drive her away, telling himself she was cruel and cold first, he doesn't need her and nothing will change once she's gone. But when she does leave, his world shifts towards the dark in ways unexpected and he keenly feels her absence. At end of the song he is surrounded by the ghosts of historic masters of war celebrating his tactical victory as the sound of her receding foorsteps leaves him to his self-imposed isolation.

I have the feeling that a song like this represents the real style Franz Ferdinand came off with; I'm happy about the success reached by these guys as they're completely fond of music and they never purport being invincible, they've always been aware of the alternative connotation and perhaps humble. Being haughty doesn't stand out the best qualities and the privilege of a band; fairly music is a tough journey and it's not possible to become famous if you want to keep on your own side and being your own critic! If you want to provide a decent album and fit to a mature crowd you necessarily have to shirk mainstream because the music held there is full of commercial hints and poor of adrenaline or originality! You should jealously store the most creative into your collection because a heap of underrated artists might be ready for your assessment while a pile of mainstream singers might be immediately ready to disawov! You can repel the gooey influence of most artists whose music isn't meant to be flawless and it naturally doesn't grant you a smug mood, it only bothers you by the worthless combination of rock and pop, it all looks mixed up through the already known technique of being the normal artist, aka the person many teenagers will chase without the intention of finding a personal method or a profitable path likewise! Specifically the artists broadcast by stations are not as bright as you can reckon; so you'll be steered towards an unmotivated love and the earning will never pay you off! That's what alternative and indie need to scare away: a list of subgenres with the aim of conquering the most reliable fans, the search of an energetic rock/electronic balance and the achievement of a good rank in a tiny chart (not those cumbersome charts we usually refer to).
