Glorious music. Excellent performance. And a luscious sound. I'm in heaven.

I never heard a spinet like that, it sounds like a full-sized French harpsichord.

Surprisingly big sound from such a small instrument. And it looks like it even gets nearly 4+1/2 octaves in the space of just over 4, due to apparently having a compressed octave at the base end (that's what the split sharps are presumably for).

Very nice performed! What is the title of this piece?
@nathanpayne67652 жыл бұрын
It's the ouverture from Jean-Baptiste Lully's opera _Atys_ from 1676. Les Arts Florissants has a good recording of it.

Beautiful playing and sound. I have a similar spinet but a few of the keys won't return after playing. It appears that the mechanism isn't falling back under the string. Do you have any tips for adjusting this?
@ReubenLL28 Жыл бұрын
I can give some advice, I've had similar issues on my harpsichord. You'll have to first figure out why exactly the jack isn't returning properly. Two possibilities are 1 - the plectrum is too long causing the plectrum to rest on top of the string when you release the note without sliding past. And 2 - there could be some friction between the jack and jackrail slot preventing it from falling into place. I'd recommend "The harpsichord owners guide" by Edward Kottick. Its a pretty good comprehensive guide for harpsichord maintenance and troubleshooting

Sounds like a very resonant room flatters the tone of this instrument particularly the bass. Nevertheless in my opinion all harpsichord family instruments should be played in a large boomy room, not only does it transform a little spinet such as this to the level of a fine harpsichord a large harpsichord becomes something of a powerful organ almost too much.

No, you should search for the David Chung edition of the Lully pieces that were transcribed for the solo harpsichord in the late 17th early 18th centuries.

@@PooyaRadbon Hello! Excellent playing, a what a gorgeous-sounding spinet! I too am looking for this transcription, and was hoping it would easily be found on IMSLP - and since you've suggested that we should search elsewhere, I've done that too...and I find many papers by David Chung, but NOT anything about Atys of Lully; rather, a lot info about things he's written concerning Couperin. Can you please just help us out here with a link or a .pdf of the sheet music you learned this from. I would REALLY rather spend my time sitting at my french double learning to play this, and less time searching the entire internet (and I live in Spain, so not the easiest thing for me to find in a physical library here at the moment, at least for me) for a score. Your help would be much appreciated! Thank you. :)

I have a spinet made by Kawai (Japan) that has almost exactly the same design as in this video, except for the decorative features, and the jacks being plastic and the picks nylon. It is just as 'loud' and tonally sounds extremely similar to the spinet in this video - perhaps Kawai copied this model.
