It's got the light, airy elegance of an Adams interior

I wish these kinds of instruments were still made rather than people trying to tell you why you don't want one based on their own preference. The modern piano ruins the kind of music I write and I gave up looking for a piano until I was lucky enough to find a period instrument with 77 keys that suits my needs but I can't stop thinking of attempting to build a square forte piano out of the disassembled console piano I have in the basement missing it's iron frame and strings.

I love this instrument - it’s like the harpsichord and fortepiano had a kid!

Looking at this, I find it very interesting that today, nobody cares about what mixture of sounds you can do with non-electronic things. We definitely have to rehabilitate chamber music with instruments like this one or the kunstharmonium.

Thank God for dedicated keyboard instrument restorers like yourself, Pooya, who breathe new life into these priceless historical relics that would otherwise remain forever silent! Now, we have a veritable window into the Past, a true Time Machine, enabling us to hear what our ancestors actually heard! And I for one happen to *love* the twangy, colourful tones of those early square pianos, so like old 'Wild West' 'honky tonk' barroom pianos! (Or even similar to the sound of a toy piano!) Your placement of the two instruments atop one another was ingenious. Sure made those crossovers easier! Definitely reminiscent of the Stein 'Vis-a-Vis', for sure. ❤

Thank you Sir! overwhelmed to read your kind comment. Good news is that before the spinet leaves my workshop I am going to record a number of very special pieces and myself will play the e minor Mozart violin/keyboard sonata and hopefully will explain more on that video! stay tuned!

Apart from the previously uploaded version of this video, this is the first time I have seen a combination harpsichord and fortepiano, although I have previously read a brief mention of some early pianos having a harpsichord stop (not sure if that meant something like this or a way to have the piano keys switch from firing hammers to firing harpsichord jacks).

Sorry guys, I had to upload this video 3 times, everytime there was a Distortion caused while uploading, had never seen such errors! a pity so many lovely comments were deleted everytime...

really love this type of combination of sound, reminds me of the Stein "vis-a-vis" instrument.
@PooyaRadbon29 күн бұрын
Thanks. Yes this is exactly the same idea. Stein made both in one Corpus, I chose two matching ones from the same period same area and placed them above each other. Also Ferrini and others made two instruments in one!

We need more tangent pianos! They have the timbre of a harpsichord but with more volume and with the expression of a piano. The fortepiano would be better with features of Steinway’s pianos such as the cast iron frame and double escapement. The fortepiano would be great for the basso continuo in a modern orchestra.

The lower notes sound like those of a harpsichord, while the higher notes sound like those of a piano.

Klingt wunderbar, es ist ein Fortepiano, hat aber immer noch den silbernen Klang eines Cembalos!

Yes, Pleyel pianos of the time should sound dark and mellow though to my humble opinion not TOO mellow! there are 2 restorers who favor too mellow sound. Others mostly like mellow and some want a bright sound like a modern piano from a Pleyel!

Simply exquisite, my dear friend - what a stunning sound! I envy the owner of such a treasure, but thank you so much for this brilliant recording. And I adore W.F. Bach too - such a very tormented genius, much-maligned today but an amazing composer!
