Finally! Finally! This quintet so often sounds like a group of five soloists. THIS performance sounds like a perfectly balanced ENSEMBLE. The voicing was superb throughout. Kudos to all involved

This is simply a magnificent performance from start to finish. The slow movement in particular played a little more rapidly than is common, has wonderful forward momentum and, because the players adhere scrupulously to Schubert's dynamic markings, all of the heart-breaking pathos that is in the music. The Quintet has its lively and rumbustuous moments, especially in the Scherzo, but tragedy is never very far away ; the date of its composition was probably August or September of 1828 ; Schubert died, aged 31, in November. The greatest praise you can give this performance is that the players do this extraordinary and unique work full justice.

It´s marvelous, but I feel it like the enormous sadness if Shubert before he died. Abandoned, extremely ill, poor, underscored, God how much suffering.

II part is probably the most sublime and moving piece by Schubert, or even in the whole string and chamber music repertoire. It brings me to tears each time. So much emotions and human soul in it...

I was brought here by youtube right after another video with the same music played by a different group. Boy these five musicians brought this piece to life so well that I actually clicked on the browser to watch the video, instead of only listening to it! Proved how much differences interpretation can make to the score.

Good performance. Five very talented young musicians. As far as I can see, none of them currently works together in the same quartet, etc, so the ensemble is exceptionally good. The viola player reminds me of the Finnish conductor Sakari Orama - he's got a childlike smile most of the time as he plays! And what an event for a place which only has 10,000 population.

This is a remarkable performance of this incredible piece. Written in the last months of Schubert's life,, it's difficult not to hear in it an awareness of the nearness of death. The poignant tragedy of the second movement is almost palpable. This performance approaches the ideal of chamber music, an intense communion of musicians, delving into the heart of this great piece. Watching their intense wordless communication as they play is a pleasure almost as great as the sounds they produce.

That is the most wonderful performance. It's so sort of chewy and robust and then you have the parts which are sort of adrift and forlorn. What an amazing sound. Wowza all round including Schubert. It's a bit like late work by Picasso, it goes beyond normal scope into its own sphere of creative brilliance.

In the Schubert catalogue, thus is D. 956, composed in what turned out to be his last year of life -- 1828 -- at the Oh-too-early age of 31, just shy of 32. To a string quartet, he added not a second viola, but a second cello.
