Brilliant. Beautiful playing of the original and then a brave emotional conclusion and response. Obviously a very gifted pianist and composer and thinking musician.

Gorgeous playing of the Schubert - and your continuation was such a deeply moving thing too. Fwiw I think it fully inhabits the emotional space of the Schubert - all tenderness and vulnerability and exhaustion - no matter how different the harmonic language may be.

The composer and performer can do whatever they wish. We can, of course, like it or dislike it, but it’s not our place to say that they *shouldn’t* do something.

Henry! It almost is Sorabji-like at the end. This seems well ahead of his time, don't you think?
@henryng072510 ай бұрын
@@musicjotter That's why it'e unfaithful! After all a completion should follow to the intention of the original composer rather writing something entirely different.

not intended as a real completion. it is a separate work based on material in schubert's original that is suitable to be played without pause after it, that is all.

a delightful contribution to the sonata. i wish i would hear completions like this more often and even cadenza moments from the older repertoire be contextualized in an authentic way like this. often there is so much focus on performance practice that we forget that this is no longer the world in which schubert resided.
@michaeledwards117210 ай бұрын
Today's world may not be the one in which Schubert lived. But if one is to presume to complete an unfinished Schubert sonata, one should be able to go back and "live" in that past world. Only that way would a modern composer have any chance of completing the sonata in an authentic style. There's no point in writing the completion in a modern style, as if you are saying that's how Schubert would compose if he were alive today, because he wasn't living in the modern world when he started composing this sonata. When you are completing another composer's unfinished work, you are beholden to adhere to the other composer's style as closely as you can. You cannot legitimately use your own style in the way you can do if you are writing an original composition of your own.
@saymayfire10 ай бұрын
@@michaeledwards1172 is this performer completing the work, or responding to it? can we, should we, truly "live" in a past world that only exists through relic and unfinished sonatas? is there any point to writing music at all? does the point of finishing old pieces always equal homogeneity of style? am i beholden to copy schubert? what is authenticity in style? too many rules for me, im afraid. too many shoulds and musts and being beholdens. i quite enjoy this performance- i think it is a delightful surprise!

what does "Palimpsest 571" mean / refer to? Why didn't the composer, Rob Hao? stay true to Schubert's style?
@haomingli617510 ай бұрын
that is the title of the new music composed. A composer can do whatever they want. not intended as a completion in the narrow sense. "Palimpsest 571 extrapolates Schubert's original motifs, structures and gestures into new territories and offers an alternative 'completion'. "
@adigozelov-enjoyer9 ай бұрын
It is a palimpsest(rewriting over another manuscript) of D.571. As others have said, it is less a completion, and more of a new piece that can be played immediately after the Schubert.

Oh, come on! How does this have anything at all to do with Schubert? You would do better to use your obvious compositional talent in independent pieces wholly your own, rather than trying to piggyback compositional ideas on works by famous composers.

I also trink, that its not the right Place to complete the fragment in that Style. As a seperate piece, its great, as a reflection of Schuberts material in modern kontext. I would be interested in your opinion, if you Listen to my completion of this sonata in Schubert style. You find it on my Channel and sheet of paper at „Notzel Verlag“, which was published a few weeks ago:)

@@Pogouldangeliwitz i feel you. I just think the freedom of paraphrasing a classical piece should be done seperatly. We should keep the Personal opinions by ourselves. We can hear that the continuation is made by a talented person. Just the style within the Schubert piece is bizarre.

This is absolutely impossible to be composed by Schubert. It sounds worst than atonal composers. Nobody in those years imagined a music like this. Is absolutely off of time. Probably is a fraud.
