I was really hoping Franz was going to talk about Scott Speed. I was first introduced to Scott Speed in America with the Red Bull NASCAR team, and he always told the (NASCAR) media the reason he got dropped from Red Bull's F1 Program is because he was looked down upon because was the American and the team always favored the European teammate over him. Speed also said Toro Rosso was originally bought by Red Bull with the intention of running an All-American driver line-up. It's nice to finally here Franz's side of the story.

Franz is a tough old bird, and the drivers who respond well to him thrive either in F1 (Vettel, Verstappen, Ricciardo, Sainz, Gasly, possibly Tsunoda), or elsewhere (Buemi and Vergne in FE, Gasly in sports cars, Alguersuari in the booth). Bourdais was beyond arrogant, and Liuzzi and Speed were total idiots. At least Liuzzi straightened up a bit and got a second chance at Force India.

As an American, it's disappointing that Scott Speed turned out to be such a misfire. Certainly with Liberty Media at the helm, as well as recent initiatives like the Netflix series, F1 has been finding lots of new audience members in the States (myself included). However, I feel that to fully tap into the American market, F1 is going to need an American driver...a hometown hero. Here's hoping it happens someday sooner rather than later.
