Of course I really like the interviews with the drivers, but my favorites are the ones with engineers, managers, team leaders, etc because they bring another point of view of racing, technical issues, backstage and paddock. You could invite mechanics and ex-mechanics too, they certainly have good information and another perspective from the world of motorsport to give us.

Brilliant interview!!! Great insight about Senna & Prost's relationship. Thank you for your comments on the Senna movie about Prost. As much as a Senna fan that I am, I thought Prost was not portrayed correctly. I am glad that Prost was recognized at the end of the movie as being a Trustee of the Ayrton Senna Foundation, but it was too little, too late, IMO. But, I am glad to hear how much Ayrton respected Prost. They both benefitted greatly from their intense rivalry together at McLaren. I am glad that I was able to see these races live at the time and to truly appreciate what the two of them have done for the sport.

After having heard both Alain Prost and Julian's accounts on Senna vs Prost.. It became very clear to me that, while they were rivals.. it wasn't neaaaarly as bad as the media had made it out to be. I also love how Senna's dealings with Mclaren and Williams in 1992 lines up entirely with Mika's recount that he was suppose to drive for Mclaren in 1992, provided Senna going to Williams... but then came back to Mclaren and Mika got benched as reserve/test driver

Great interview, thanks Gents. At about 1 hr Mr Jakobi poses the question regarding Perez performance at McLaren "when has a new driver arrived and defeated an incumbent" he supposes only Ayrton has managed it. There is a much later example where a driver arrived at a team and defeated an entrenched 4 time champion and clear #1 driver; Daniel Ricciardo beating Vettel at Red Bull in 2014. Mr Jakobi also neatly skirts the question of Ocon in 2018 by referring to Force India being in financial trouble. I guess after all his loyalty is to Checo so it goes with the territory.

Fantastic interview. I've loved Beyond the grid since the first episode. It's so insightful and Tom is a brilliant journalist. I won't be listening to F1 Nation though. I did listen to the first episode and surprisingly I didn't like it :( I found it more like listening to some podcast aimed at teens. Ooooh will George answer Rosanna's phone call. Cringe. I get why it's important because F1 wants the younger fans, who will stay fans for years (I began watching F1 aged 14 in the 90's). But I think Tom Clarkson should be spared and just let that F1 gaming commentator get on with it. Tom is like an FT reporter of the motor racing world... so it feels weird having him participate in what feels like cringy teen content.

If Senna would’ve moved to Williams in 92”. Will probably be talking about the statistically greatest driver of all time. Just think would’ve won 92,93,94(if he was alive), 95, 96 and maybe of retired in 97 with another championship. All speculation though and Benetton was great in 94, 95 and Ferrari in 97 with Michael. Would’ve been phenomenal to see Michael vs prime Senna. Wow.

Senna vs Prost in the same car 1988/1989: Senna : 14 victories- Prost: 11 Senna: 26 poles- Prost: 4 Senna vs Prost in 161 races: Senna: 41 victories- Prost: 40 7 years in McLaren: Prost:30 victories-Senna in 6 years: 35 victories. Poles: Senna:65- Prost: 22 (161) Grand slams: Senna:4 , Prost:0 Monaco: Senna:6, Prost:4 Spa: Senna:5 ,Prost: 2 Senna: laps in the lead: 2931 (161) races. Prost: laps in the lead: 2684 (202) races. Other interesting facts: Monaco 1984-Senna could drive the worst possible car on the grid as a rookie in the worst possible conditions while Alain couldn’t drive the best car on the grid with much more experience than Senna. That 1984 race was 100% robbery. 1988-dry conditions, same car: Monaco, Senna out qualified Prost for 1.5 seconds. Donington 1993- Senna had 70hp less than Prost, the gap was 50 seconds. 1989 Suzuka: Prost hit Senna before entering the corner, 100% Prosts fault. Than one of the dirtiest political decision in F1 were made. 1990-Senna hit Prost after F1 seniors removed the pole position. PS. Alain was amazing driver, no one should hate each of this drivers but Senna was the best. Alain also had luck in 1986 as Mansell should won a championship. The Senna movie was 95% correct but they missed things. And the move can’t effect how fast and talented those two drivers were. It is sad that they missed “special hell to our dear friend Alain, Alain we miss you” ! Prost was also involved in lot of politics and had a lot of support from the establishment which Senna never had! This was an amazing interview. Thanks!

I think leaving out fastest laps does a disservice to Prost: Fastest laps 1988/89: Prost 10, Senna 5 Fastest laps overall: Prost 41, Senna 19 Any set of stats should include that. Prost was a master in race conditions.

adelaidecity76 if you have a pole and you are leading the race than you don’t make fastest laps. Pole position is a measure on how fast is the driver! Fastest laps are not a speed measure and how fast was the driver. Pole is the only one.
