The Old Hundredth has been one of my favorite hymn tunes since I first learned about hymn tunes back in the 60s. I've heard many arrangements and harmonizations of it, many of them quite good. One of my favorite arrangements is the one Ralph Vaughn Williams did the for coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. I heard a little bit of it coming through in your playing. Great idea to explore many of the great hymn tunes. Besides the one in this video, here are some of my other favorites, in no particular order: Austria, Irby, Nicæa, Nun Danket, Picardy, Sine Nomine, Slane, St. Anne, St. Columba, and Westminster Abbey, to name but a few. Looking forward to more of these.

While attending a small Methodist church during my adolescence “Old Hundredth” was the tune for the Doxology which was regularly sung after the scripture reading. Every now and then the choir would get to follow it with the Seven-fold Amen after the pastoral prayer. Thanks for the reminder of simpler times.

So glad I came upon your video by accident! Absolutely blown away by the incredible sounds and the 'twiddly bits' were impressive! I like the added information at the beginning as well. Bravo 👏👏

I was listen to your old videos and come up with something I was thinking about before when I playing on my midi pipeorgan. About the 4" 8" and 16" - I was thinking like the generations in the family like 4" its the kids, 8" yourself and 16" the older generatiion.....Maybe because of the numbers,....Great pipeorgans, maybe one day I will go and see and listen to them in the churches.

In the US (Methodist, Presbyterian, Episcopalian, and probably others but those are the ones I know) it's "Praise God from whom all blessings flow".

Thank you Fraser. I have the Duren organ model, and it's great to hear it played by someone who can get the most out of it. I am going to point my church's organist to this video. Who knows, he may play it in a future worship service.

@charleneguiliano2943 Жыл бұрын
@FraserGartshore It is in Rochester NY USA in the Auditorium Theater
@charleneguiliano2943 Жыл бұрын
It came out of RKO Theater from the 192O's. There are Pipes In the ceiling.The sound is amazing It took 10 years to rehab. Mostly volunteers. Rochester organ society maintains and manages it. when guests organist come to play, they stay with members of the society board! The audience can see the artists' hands playing .they had artists from the UK ,Italy, USA ,and Eastman School of Music(located in Rochester)the Theater is an old theater that has been rehabbed. Amazing music sound!

Fantastic as always Fraser. Don't be afraid to say more about the music, I'm sure your audience can take it! (You rushed the melody bit and I'm sure folk would love to know). It would be fantastic to add something about how others have used the hymn, in this case V Williams) I think you are on to a winner with this new addition to your wonderful creative online life. Thanks. ... and it made Noel R known around the world too!! x ]

I am reminded of the church organists who liked to change the harmony of one verse of a hymn, with varyingly successful results.🤣

Remember you’re not supposed to use a preposition to end an sentence with. This is well understood among us literates 😉
