Frasier Crane(Kelsey Grammer) sings a song for a lady and he's eventually being turned down. This is S08 Ep13 Sliding Frasiers. I've heard Kelsey Grammer has taken singing courses when he was young. His voice reminds me of Frank Sinatra!
(song starts at 0:34)

I love this scene. I, too , identified with the humiliation of placing unreasonable expectations on a relationship. But I really liked the song too. 😬

OH BABE, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY? (E.S. Smith) Hurricane Smith - 1972 Have I a hope or half a chance, To even ask if I could dance with you? You-hoo! Would you greet me or politely turn away? Would there suddenly be sunshine on a cold and rainy day? Oh, Babe! What would you say? For there are you, sweet lollipop, Here am I with such a lot to say, hey, hey! Just to walk with you along the Milky Way. To caress you through the night time, bring you flowers every day..... Oh, Babe! What would you say?

E. Smith was his wife. Hurricane Smith was Norman Smith, the recording engineer for the Beatles from their first demo record up to Rubber Soul. He wrote an autobiography "John Called Me Normal" in reference to John Lennon making fun of the way Norman would go to work in a suit and tie instead of dressing in the style of the time.

Reminds me of Michael Scott's proposal at the Diwali celebration where he's turned down in front of everyone. Watching Frasier sometimes makes me a little sad cause it seems like it was a much better time. You can keep the iphone 12 and 5G. I'll take the higher quality entertainment and less toxic society.

You didn't like the Norman "Hurricane" Smith version? His wife wrote the song. Norman was the recording engineer for The Beatles from their demo record up to Rubber Soul. The Beatles were going to record one of his songs for an album and it would have been the only original song recorded by The Beatles that wasn't written by one of the four. George Martin put a stop to it saying the album needed a "Ringo" song.

What does gender fluidity have to do with this? Just a less heteronormative Frasier? I'd be down!
@TuomariMuller
@TuomariMuller 4 жыл бұрын
@@Chaosdude7111 definitely. Most of the funniest moments didn't have anything to do with gender. And why would we even watch the same thing with different actors all over again? The original is absolutely fantastic, but they should do something differently second time around.

@My Account Understood. I was born in the early 60s, so I was about 11 when it came out. The station my sister listened to played it to death and I quickly tired of it (and began imitating it derisively). I do tend to appreciate the "older" music, but this one just rubbed me the wrong way. But I appreciate your thoughtful reply and no offense meant.

True, but there's a certain something something about "Normal Norman's" voice ON THIS SONG that's captivating, or maybe it's the '40s music that my parents taught me to love (I was nuts about New Vaudeville Band in the '60s until they played "Winchester Cathedral" to death) that generations music. Gilbert O'Sullivan does a good job with it.
