This is the most informative car show i have ever watched. i believe anyone who owns or is interested in mopar should be watching your team. i have a 73 valiant regal with a stock 318 nothing great but what i could afford to get into mopar . so i will be watching every episode. I will also be posting this to all the mopar guys on our forum here in New Zealand. thanks for putting out such good content and taking the time to explain how everything works and why and i love the we quiz bits. cheers.

I'm not necessarily a Mopar guy, but since these cars were around, it is really very interesting how Mark points out the details on the very basics. Very impressive. I've really enjoyed watching this. I've learned more about these cars than I ever thought I would! :)

I would think you need to have more than 5% of the original car to use an original Vin number.
@brianbarney1885
@brianbarney1885 Жыл бұрын
Probably if you have the VIN tag, it’s all you need since it seems better-than-OEM panels are available for the body.
@jimbetts5164
@jimbetts5164 Жыл бұрын
@@brianbarney1885 You need the VIN tag and than the key areas that have stampings that have the same numbers as the vin. If you have the assembly build tags those are not always with a car. If you have numbers matching car starting in the late 60's you will find the serial/sequence numbers will be on the engine and transmission as well and they will be the last 6 digits of the vin. Those numbers will not prove the car is origional and not fake if they all match. If they don't match than it proves it is not all original.
@gypsy6211
@gypsy6211 Жыл бұрын
Don't need even 5%. All you need is structure of some sort that's original. Just gotta prove the part is original to the car. Mark has receipts, pictures before and after the dip, a license and reputation the DMV would take as good.

Ever have something remind you of someone who is no longer with you and the memory is so powerful and meaningful that you have tears running down your face and your nose is stopped up so fast that it's almost like being sucker punched? When Dougie pulled out that museum piece key holder and I actually saw it and realized what it was, I was INSTANTLY taken back to 1975 and my Grandmother's white 1966 Fairlane. She used to keep her car keys in one of those. I haven't seen one in 35-40 years. It's amazing how memories from so long ago can be so vivid and clear.

Fraud is a rebody passed off as original. I looked at a 1968 or 69 ( long time ago, memory foggy) dodge dart that was built from an original 383 car that was wrecked. It was not represented as original so perfectly ok

I remember during the gas crisis in the 70's there were lines around the block. You couldn't give a muscle car away. It has to be frustrating to think of all the muscle cars that could have easily been restored got crushed instead because no one wanted them. Because they were basically worthless minor damage was considered a total. My friend sold his '67 GTO for $60. to the wrecker and when the guy saw the car (pretty well stripped, not wrecked) he wanted his money back.

So If this shop replaces major body panels from rust or collision The car is still considered restored. but if another shop replaces the rear 75% of the body and still retains the proper VIN #'s It's considered as a fake or a tribute ? Where exactly do you draw the line ? At what point does major body panel replacement become building a fake car When the proper ID is intact ?

Hell if you want to nit pick both of these cars are a "Cuda" of Theseus type of situation. What's the difference between "re-bodying" and replacing everything but the roof structure? When done correctly they are both commonly and legally acceptable practices. Surely this isn't the first time he has seen this because there are a lot of muscle cars out there like that.

I grew up in the 60's in a small town in Jersey. Down the street was Burnett and Hillary Chrysler Plymouth. All of these Mopar muscle cars I looked at them in amazement, Cuda's, Road Runners, GTX's, and Challenger's. My friend painted cars in their body shop. Yer show is very accurate and entertaining. Thanks for letting me relive those memories. And the Chrysler 300 letter cars, the beginners of muscle cars. Would love to see your team do a 300.

Damn, you guys are actually building a car from scratch! I watched your show years ago and being Chrysler car guy, wondered if I stayed in the car repair/restore business, might I have been as good a Chrysler authority as Mark is. Amazing stuff here!!!!! I guess my only question would be if this car is considered restored or NOS manufactured car???? I get that you use the original data plate and roof, but beyond that, the body is all new, nothing remained from the day is was factory built.

The most incredible thing about that "Tribute" build is that the guy who swapped all the VIN's and badging etc, knew what made a real 440 6-pack car but just didn't do the proper work to make it pass the sniff test. He had the knowledge but not the work ethic.

Never rode in a Cuda, but roommate had a Challenger conv with a hot 360 transplant, she was wicked powerful and lite. It would be worth a fortune today but sadly, it was lost along with a childhood friend heading to college. In late 70's/early 80's Mopars were the hottest stuff on the street.

These guys have great skill and I admire it, but I don't necessarily agree with it. On the one hand they are building an entirely new car around a VIN plate and the roof panel, then on the other hand the are calling the other car fake for doing nearly the same thing albeit with used parts.

Do you watch any other shows, like 2 guys garage or all girls garage. If you did you might see shows sponsored by Hotshots and Lokar. Those shows are exactly what you say. Commercials posing as a show. This is not that at all. Its become more about Mark and the interactions with his staff , than about restoring cars. On builds like this its way more than a restoration and more of a type of remanufacturing a car, when their is so little of a car thats left.. with so much scripted shows claiming they are reality , this one is as real as it gets this is a real shop doing real work for real people. Except the production crew following them around with video cameras and boom mikes all day. That's normal right???

I would even take a knock off of a Barracuda. I had the chance as a young man to buy a lime green barracuda convertible for $1100, but my father said no. I had saved up half of it. and was the only kid in my family that paid off my cars, but the answer was NO! That is part of the reason I stopped seeing my family after mom died.
