»Radar in Action« Radar-Imaging - An Introduction to the Theory Behind
Have you ever been scanned at the airport during passenger screening? Luckily, one is not scanned by X-rays as our hand luggage. Instead, millimeter waves are used to create 3D images of the body seeing through clothing. But, this technology can be used for more applications. Non-destructive testing for quality assurance within the production process of industrial goods or groceries are another potential application. But how does the technology work? How are those high-resolution images created? What are the basic principles behind the imaging method? The presentation will provide a theoretical introduction into 3D millimeter wave imaging. If you have a technical or scientific background and think about working in that field, this can guide you the first step towards a theoretical understanding of digital near-field radar imaging.
Speaker:
Dr.-Ing. Reinhold Herschel
Themes:
Principle of coherent imaging
The basic mathematical model
The Matched Filter Method
The Digital Backprojection Method
Reconstruction in the spatial frequency domain
Performance and limitations

What is »Radar in Action«?
By presenting our research results, we want to show what is possible with radar and how you can use the possibilities. Unfortunately, this is hardly possible in person at the moment, so in 2020 we launched the public online lecture series "Radar in Action". The lectures are aimed at customers, partners and interested parties from industry, politics, science and society.
Since the launch in 2020, there have been 38 events with an average of about 100 participants, totaling over 1700 people, many of whom attended multiple times. Over 93% rated the presentations as very good or good.
The events are always held on Tuesdays from 2:00 pm to 2:30 pm. They include live presentations on a radar application - some including live demonstrations using experimental systems, as well as opportunities for questions and exchanges.
Visit www.fhr.fraunh... for more topics and dates of our online live events. The registration is free of charge.

I have been designing radar for many years and struggled to follow this presentation. The presentation was very clear at the beginning, but quickly becomes confusing jumping from complex topic to complex topic without clearly explaining the connection.
