This is the story of the seven gangs in Victorian England working for anatomists to supply bodies because of the lack of cadavers. This job was called being a Resurrectionists. They stole bodies indiscriminately, "from the cradle.... from the grave" These gangs, if payed enough would murder the occasional person when bodies were not available, "i'm not adverse to kill." Stealing jewelry from the dead or even necrophilia was considered a 'job perk,' "It isn't your diamonds that I'm after But I'll take 'em..........It isn't your kisses that I'm here for But I'll take 'em" Once these activities became well known people when to great lengths to keep their dead safe from reinforced caskets to having huge crypts with guards. But these Resurrectionists still found bodies, " There's always one door that you forget to lock And I will be waiting”

I know now that this song is about the Asylum for Wayward Girls book, but for years I honestly thought it was a metaphor for sexual abuse. Mainly because of lines like "rob from the cradle" (cradle-robber) "one door you forget to lock" (the door to your room) "It isn't your kisses that I'm here for...but I'll take 'em" (this one is pretty obvious) "it's just human traffic" (again, pretty obvious) "my time is running out...and my excitement grows" (the 'wait' before the abuser can be alone with their victim again) "your loved ones may sit upon your stone to prevent me" (loved ones 'helping' but not protecting the victim as much as they should) and the lines in the background at the end, "I should be home by now/someone will come for me," (sounds like the victim reassuring themselves that someone will find them and save them.)
@jeremyfrost26362 жыл бұрын
It's about the grave robbing (and murder, when corpses were scarce) committed by the medical industry in Victorian England. The people who took the bodies often had some fun with them first, hence the lines that invoke sexual abuse as necrophilia did occur.

CiaraCoffin They lost the rights to the whole "Repo" storyline, because a crappy Hollywood movie kind of stole their idea and called it "Repo Man." Bastards, they had been doing the stage musical since 1996 and the movie came out two years before that crap.Search repo man 2010 and you will probly find a video about it.

@Megan Tvenstrup the whole album takes its themes from Emilie's book The Asylum for Wayward Victorian Girls. I do not KNOW what these lyrics mean but how i see this song is that the Scavenger goes and indeed robs graves for body parts for experiments but also takes children from their cradles to be used later on.. If that makes any sense. And again this is just me thinking.
@amy2212011 жыл бұрын
Guss that´s only the obvious. More like a methaper, a picture for how fucken up the world is... a nice story, to be told to children to hold them from going out at night.

I'll rob from the cradle And I'll rob from the grave It's just human traffic And I'm just a slave To the medical community They gave me my start They pay by the part So I'll throw in the heart Yes, it's about huma traffic and it's a metaphor for our lives in many ways . We are disposables... TBT !

The song is really about her past sexual abuse. The "scavenger" being her rapist who takes what he needs, he tells her that her no one will be able to help her because they won't know.
@sydneysennett255210 жыл бұрын
Ebby Jones actually, i read the book and i think it's actually just literally about selling body parts to medical people. that happens in the book a lot

@FreakingMe66612 жыл бұрын
Personal view, but I took it as a supply and demand of the girls in the book. If you haven't read it nor want to know stop here. So in very beginning of the book (I think Emilie read this bit at sometime too) this man comes into a bar where Emily is with his dad, playing violin. After Emily finishes this stranger talks with her dad and next morning Emily is taken to the Music Conservatorie from which she is later sold onwards and then ends up in the Asylum FWVG.

I think they'd have dropped this from the final cut if Graverobber sang it (which would make so, so many people cry quite a lot). Like cutting either zydrate anatomy or try my new parts, as using both didn't push the plot enough because they were supposedly too similar. I don't think they werer at all and I wish they'd used both. The dancing in new parts isn't great, but it is certainly shexeh!

This was, in fact an issue right up until the 1940's in the states, if you can believe it. In the UK as well. I wouldn't put other western cultures out of the game, either. {Say, Nazi Germany... But with them, it wasn't illegal.} But the idea of mad scientists did actually have roots with individuals {mostly women} that disappeared because of the black market for illegal cadavers.
