Thanks for reviewing Nano Tape. You have convinced me that I am not going to waste my time and money ordering this garbage! I soooo wanted to believe the infomercial but you proved that it it just GARBAGE! Who wants to waste their time spend, their money ordering, anticipating with excitement, discovering that it doesn't work and then having to send this mess back? Certainly not me!!! It even destroyed the your paint finish on both surfaces, flat paint and glossy paint. It destroyed the back of the picture frame! This could be an expensive frame that goes crashing to the floor with the glass breaking! The brick test failed miserably too. Companies think consumers are so stupid to believe the hype about their products. Thanks to reviewers like you..... we don't have to be lied to and buy this TRASH PRODUCT THAT DOES NOT WORK!!!!

I appreciate the video, but I believe certain factors of the tests performed greatly reduced the tapes chances of success. 1) For starters, both surfaces need to be dry and clean (free of dirt, lint, dust, etc..) before using the tape. Using rubbing alcohol does wonders for adhesion strength. 2) The pavers you used didn't not have a flush surface for the tape to adhere to and the fact that it still held up using only the little bumps on the pavers was impressive. 3) The reason the tape didn't work very well on the rugs is because Nano tape doesn't use a chemical adhesive. According to Wikipedia, it uses an array of carbon nanotubes that work very similar to how the toes of a gecko work. Therefore, Nano tape works much better on smooth surfaces as opposed to rough, uneven or porous surfaces. 4) Applying firm pressure on the tape improves adhesion. This also helps push out any air bubbles or gaps to increase the surface area of the tape. 5) Apparently applying a bit of heat from a hair dryer will also improve adhesion. 6) To help with removal of the tape, stretch one end of it outwards & slightly away from the surface it's stuck to (similar to how you remove a 3M Command Hook). This helps break the "suction" from each of the nanotubes. 7) Applying a bit of heat using a hair dryer can also aid in removal. 8) You an also use a piece of dental floss and slowly work it along the underside of the adhesive to break the bond. 9) Lastly, ensure you have washed off ALL lint, dust and debris from the tape and allow it to FULLY dry to give it the best chance of regaining it's adhesiveness. Here's a video of someone using a hairdryer to aid in removal: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYaldXSVh5WLlac Here's a video of a different review that managed to hold up a total of 5 bricks and later, even a 40lb dumbbell: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y2XceZyHeJegatU Here's the wiki article: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nano_tape Here's a great article with a more detailed explanation of how it works: www.technologyreview.com/2008/10/09/218518/sticky-nanotape/ I became very interested in this tape and did a bit of research to try and learn it's strengths and weaknesses, some of which I've listed above. Hopefully this will be of use to some of you :)

Just a recommendation - When testing tape like this-- you don't want any overhang outside of the object you adhere to. By leaving extra, and not pressing it down like the section under the brick you gave it a starting point to begin separation which can decrease the potential weight limit. Ideally you would want a -1mm gap between the edge of the brick and tape, but undersizing is better than oversizing.

To be fair, this is still a pretty handy product for certain things. For instance, I take a roll of it with me when I travel. Handy for hanging things and making “shelves” with containers. Haven’t ever pulled the paint off yet so I don’t know why his did. I find it easier to use and cheaper than 3m command adhesives... and able to hold a good amount of weight. I don’t reuse them. I find that they don’t work at all after washing or repositioning. I have used them to attach clear acrylic shelves and they work fantastic. My biggest gripe about it is the ones I got were extremely difficult to peel off their backing. I have ruined and wasted quite a bit of the product when peeling off the backing.

Thank you for your video. You probably already know this, but just a little tip: To remove these from the wall without ripping the paint, you gotta remove it by slowly stretching it from one end, parallel to the wall, while putting pressure on the middle or other end. Kinda like those "Command" hooks by 3M. (Don't pull away from the wall.) I came across your video while looking to see if anyone did a test on various methods/tests for cleaning this stuff. I too found that they are not that reusable, but wondered if it was because we have hard water, and maybe it left a lot of minerals/crud that was un-seeable on the tape. I found that rubbing alcohol worked better for cleaning than water did, but they never really worked as well as they did the first time. Despite all this, and with lowered expectations, I still love the stuff. I use it under little alligator clips on my wall to display my various art/jewelry creations, and I use small pieces on top of a ceramic tile, (that I place on my lap as a little workstation) to attach plastic cups or magnets to hold my tools for quick access. I find the stuff quite handy actually. Great video! :) Thank you again for taking the time to make it.

I wrapped tape around the shoulder-strap and made the surface that rests on the shoulder less sticky by handling it.

Very entertaining review! I used this "nano" tape to mount the steel washers that were included with my Wyze security cams. The indoor-only camera has a magnet in its base, so applying the trimmed tape to the steel washer made it simple to put wherever I wanted the camera to go. The only weight it holds is the washer, the camera (100g), and the actual USB cord to plug it in. Of those, the USB cord was probably the heaviest component. No issues so far, but the acid test will come when I want to remount it somewhere else. I hope it doesn't take the paint off the drywall, but I guess I'll find out.

@RBelmont0075 жыл бұрын
Staged is a possibility, though there are situations where the original design works as advertised, but the manufacturing isn't feasible for cost-effectiveness and thus corners are cut in quality and the like. The Power Glove is a prime example. The original engineering used materials that worked exactly as they were supposed to, but were too expensive to mass produce without making it far too expensive for average consumers to even consider buying. It was ultimately manufactured with far lower quality materials that WERE cost effective, but resulted in the ineffective device we now have.

One problem I see with the brick test - you didn't use a brick, you used a paver. I can tell by the spacers along the edge of the paver and it's thickness. A couple of problems here. 1. pavers are typically made out of concrete whereas bricks are made out of clay. Because of this BRICKS ARE MUCH LIGHTER THAN PAVERS. 2. Due to the spacers, the paver will not sit flush with the wall but a brick would. This means the brick has more surface area to grip. Love what you do but this test needs to be redone to give the nano-tape a fair shake.

Hey man. First of all, Thank you for the review. Secondly, I think the tape work pretty much like a normal tape except that it needs not just a gloss finish surface but a hard one like porcelain or glass would be ideal. That explains the mat and flat paint. Their washability is questionable but I would've liked to see the water wiped off before reuse but I don't know. Anyways thank you again!

For the back of picture frames and rugs, you could probably apply some kind of single sided non disruptive tape that adheres just fine to the surface without marring it, and then stick the double sided tape to that. I bought some of this tape on a whim and now have to make it functional to excuse the expense.
@PJPEE5 жыл бұрын
To remove the tape you can stretch it to remove it instead of removing like regular tape, similar to those sticky Command hooks. Also letting the tape hold up something overnight before applying weight helps with adhesion, so if you put a shelf-like thing up, you wait before adding weight
@Caddowolf5 жыл бұрын
I'm sure it would hold better in a vertical position instead of horizontally like you did it, but it would still damage the wall. It would have more surface area to adhere to vertically. Good review! Thanks! I'd say there are a few uses for this, but one roll would probably last a lifetime if you only used it where it worked....meaning it wouldn't work for many things.

i assume those work like a suction cup, forming like a vacuum between the surfaces. a rug isnt airproof so there is no way for a vacuum. sticking some sort of rubber mat might work for the rug to have some friction. regardless, like any suction cup those tapes wont hold long since the plastic itself will eventually let air through over time. also i think they would be better being reusable if you clean them with rubbing alcohol or anything else that leaves no residue. even the slightest dust will make them unusable. great video.

Thomas Herzog why I don't trust suction cups for anything more than a bath scrubbie. Hate the sound of something falling in the middle of the night.

@@marylhere im sure there are some "better" ones out there made of latex or something but plastic isnt really airtight. thats why PET bottled sodas/sparkling etc. goes stale over time even when not opened. i dont trust them (suction cups) either though, whatever material. ^_^

It's actually just thick stretchy tape. It worked on bricks so there's no chance of a vacuum. The rug just hasn't got the right surface, but a rubber-backed mat would work

as always James thanks for doing these. I always like these type of things, but I will pass on the nano tape. great idea but not perfect enough for what I would want to use it for.

Like these reviews as it saves us time from knowing how and when to use something without wasting our time to see what works and what doesn't...Thanks

You should try Sugru Moldable Glue, it's a silicone based substance that after exposure to air allows you to mold it for a while into whatever shape you want, and after about an hour to set I think (or preferably, overnight) it has turned into a flexible seal. It's supposed to be waterproof, weatherproof, electrically insulating, holding up to 2KG, etc.

Do you think the ridges cast into the edge of the bricks affect the amount of brick surface coming in contact with the tape?

I just fallowed you. Thank you for the time you took to review the tapes. I've been looking for quality double-sided tape. Like you, i do my research . As ive found that Amazon has fake reviews. Aka people that up play the items.. you can tell by reading the reviews . For example. 5 good review in and you'll see a bad review on said item and right below bad review youll see a great review Talking about the exact key points that the bad Review Was complaining about. All it takes is one customer to be unhappy. And it has the potential to bring a company to its knees.

THANK YOU for doing this review! The commercial makes this stuff look like it takes the place of Command products so I was interested. Now, no freakin way! Lol

This type of product adheres to a smooth surface better (mirror) vs a rough (wall). Any dirt will interfere with its adherence. I'm not surprised it didnt work on the rugs. To reuse it try washing it with soap & water then rinse let dry. The my sticky buddy has similar gripping aspects. It requires a light wash occas.

pretty decent experimentation, documentation, and analysis.

I cannot be the only one who sees the notification that #FreakinReviews has uploaded a new vid! 🥳🎉🤘🏽 I love your channel and I am impressed with how you give honest reviews of products and don’t rely on the Name of a product. The reviews are fair and thorough, with plenty of explanation of each test. You are clear, concise and well articulated. That said, Bailey is an adorable and beautiful dog, I love seeing her face and boopable nose. Oh yeah, the sunglasses........ you’ve got a very cool collection. ( the John Lennon-like specs look best ) Cheers Jax 🇨🇦🐾❤️

I was recently looking at a "sticky buddy" those hair rollers, and I think these rolls of tape are made from the same material as that. If you pull off the strip on the sticky buddy, it's just like these rolls of tape.

I'm no masonry scientist, but I "think" concrete is a bit more porous than a typical brick and that could affect the surface tension load. Maybe try the best performing tape on brick-to-brick application for a follow-up video or use carbon nanogorilla tape instead.

My main thing is the Brick test would of probably worked much better with bricks with no ridges. Also the stimulated bathroom test doesn't account for hand grease build up on the toothpaste and razor over time and the toothpaste likely being used 2 or 3 times a day if practicing good oral hygiene. Otherwise though, thanks for another good video.

Quick note - the brick test. He didn't use bricks, use pavers. Concrete pavers and MUCH heavier than clay bricks. And yeah, the spacers on the pavers reduce the surface of the grip. Love this channel but this was a bogus review.
@TrollFaceTheMan5 жыл бұрын
@@ShaneCopen, you are right they are Brick Pavers and Not Clay Bricks. I don't know what the original advertising used though so I am not sure how representative this is or isn't to their claims.

I wish I had seen this video before purchasing a roll. I hung a cloth painting that was help by very thin and light wood strips. It fell off in 20 mins a long with paint. I put the tape on 2 sides, now I am going to try to put it on all 4 sides and see the results. I don't have much hopes.
